[thirdparty/squid.git] / ChangeLog
CommitLineData
66bbb757 1 - Added basic support for Range requests. For most cachable
2 requests, Squid replies with an "Accept-Ranges" header. Upon
3 receiving a potentially cachable Range request for a not
4 cached object, Squid requests the whole object from origin
5 server and then replies with specified range(s) to the
6 client. Multi-range requests are supported. Adjacent
7 overlapping ranges are merged. If-Range requests are
8 supported. Limitations: Multi-range requests with out of
9 order ranges are not supported.
10 - Made md5.c use standard memcpy and memset if they are
11 avaliable.
12 - Memory pools will now shrink if Squid is run-time
13 reconfigured with smaller value of memory_pools_limit tag.
14 - Added counter for number of clients (Tomi Hakala).
15 - Changed neighbor UP/DOWN algorithm to require 10 failed TCP
16 connections for UP->DOWN transition.
17 - Added 'unique_hostname' configuration option when its
18 necessary to have multiple machines with the same visible
19 hostname.
222917b2 20 - Fixed pumpReadFromClient() to not read too many bytes on
21 persistent connections.
53856ebd 22 - We can now cache HTTP replies with Set-Cookie. These evil
23 headers are now filtered out for cache hits on the client
24 side.
222917b2 25 - Fixed SNMP bugs caused by using snmpwalk.
9089cc70 26 - Fixed snmpwalk crash. snmpwalks do not crash squid anymore.
27 - Fixed snmp system Group; all objects are now returned.
28 - Fixed snmp system Group sysDescr and sysContact.
7fce9c3e 29 - Allocate FwdState from mem pools.
30 - Minor HTCP progress.
222917b2 31 - Moved 'miss_access' ACL check from client_side.c to forward.c
ed169eab 32 - Fixed logging of usernames for requests which require
33 proxy-authentication.
48382032 34 - Fixed select-spin bug when an ICP reply actually gets queued
35 and we failed to execute the write callback.
354b5fe1 36 - Fixed a storeCheckSwapOut bug. We were freeing up to
37 the queued offset instead of the done offset. This
38 resulted in a small chunk of object data not being in
39 memory and not yet written to disk. A client could
40 recieve a partial object because file_read() unexpectedly
41 returns EOF.

106 of its position and the number of entries
2246b732 107 - Only replies with valid Content-Length can be sent with keep-alive
108 connection directive (Henrik Nordstrom)
109 - Better handling of persistent connection "clues" in HTTP headers;
110 the decision now depends on HTTP version (and User-Agent exceptions)
99edd1c3 111 - Removed handling of "length=" directive in IMS headers;
112 the directive is not in the HTTP/1.1 standard;
113 standing by for objections
114 - allowed/denied headers are now checked using bit masks instead of
115 strcmp loops
116 - removed Uri: from allowed headers; Uri is deprecated in RFC 2068

133 water mark; move locked entries to the head of the inmem
134 list.
135 - Changed clientReadRequest() to locally handle any
136 "squid-internal-static" URL for any host.
52f977aa 137 - Disable persistent connections for client connections
138 from broken Netscape User-Agent, version 3.* (Stewart Forster)
434b408f 139

178 Cache Digests are still "very experimental".
e376562a 179 - Fixed snprintf() bug. When len == 1, snprintf() would treat
180 the buffer as unknown size, emulating sprintf() behaviour.

005e5260 213 - Added RELAXED_HTTP_PARSER #define to allow requests which are
214 missing the HTTP identifier on the request line (e.g. buggy
215 SpyGame queries). RELAXED_HTTP_PARSER is undefined by default.

217 diskHandleWriteComplete().
218 - Fixed cache announcement feature.
20fe7191 219 - Fixed httpReadReply() to retry failed HTTP requests on
220 persistent connections when read() returns -1, not only
221 when it returns 0.
805e5f70 222 - Fixed cbdata memory counting leak. cbdataUnlock() always
223 called free(), never memFree().
ff396fe6 224 - Fixed storeDirWriteCleanLogs() malloc bug on Alphas.
005e5260 225 - Fixed `++loopdetect < 10' assertion due to
226 clientHandleIMSReply bug for invalid/partial HTTP
227 replies.
228 - Added preliminary code for HTCP.
229 - Renamed 'aux' dir to 'cfgaux' for legacy DOS machines.
230 - Added "snmp_community" as an ACL type.

005e5260 237 - Fixed forgetting to reset Config.Swap.maxSize in
238 configDoConfigure.
239 - Fixed httpReplyUpdateOnNotModified() arguments-in-wrong-order
240 bug which caused not modified replies to not get updated.
241 - Fixed client_side.c bugs which could cause data to be written
242 to the client in the wrong order for persistent connections.
243 clientPurgeRequest() and clientHandleIMSComplete() must not
244 call comm_write(). Instead they must create and write to
245 StoreEntry's.
246 - Fixed ICP query service time counting bug(s).
247 - replaced 'char *mime_headers_end()' with 'size_t headersEnd()'
248 to fix buffer overruns. This also requires adding 'buf_sz'
249 args to some functions like clientBuildReplyHeader().
250 But we can eliminate the need to NULL-terminate the
251 buffer beforehand.
252 - Changed commConnectCallback() to reset the FD timeout to
253 zero before notifying about the connection. This requires
254 commSetTimeout() calls in numerous places to reinstall
255 timeouts.
256 - Changed comm_poll_incoming() to be called less frequently
257 (every 15 I/O's instead of every 7 FD's) (Michael O'Reilly).
258 - Removed HAVE_SYSLOG case for debug() macro. Almost all
259 systems do have syslog(), but more importatnly the
260 _db_level value is needed for debugging to stderr.
261 - Rewrote squid/dnsserver interface to use smaller, single-line
262 messages.

267 commands.
268 - Fixed ftp.c to recognized invalid PASV replies (e.g.
269 port == 0).
270 - Removed hash_insert(). All hasing uses hash_join() now.
271 - Renamed hash_unlink() to hash_remove_link().
272 - Added hashPrime() to find closes prime hash table size
273 to a given value.
274 - Fixed Keep-Alive ratio counting bug which prevented
275 persistent connections from being used between cache
276 peers.
277 - Changed icmp.c to NOT queue messages sent from squid to
278 the pinger program.
279 - Changed icp_v2.c to NOT queue ICP messages by default.
280 But they will be queued and resent once if the first
281 send fails. Counters.icp.queued_replies counts the
282 number of messaages queued.
283 - Cleaned up ICP logging.
284 - Added identTimeout().
285 - Fixed ipcache reply counting bug. Overcounted dnsserver
286 replies for partial replies.
287 - Added urlInternal() for building internal Squid URLs.
288 - Changed peerAllowedToUse() to check both 'cache_peer_domain'
289 AND 'cache_peer_acl' configurations. This should be changed
290 in the fugure to use ONLY cache_peer_acl.
291 - Changed DEAD/REVIVED neighbor detection to avoid reporting
292 so many false deaths. (Joe Ramey).
293 - Added some preliminary code to support "cache digests."
294 - Fixed pumpClose() coredumps (?).
295 - Updated cachemgr 'info' output to show median service
296 times for various categories.
297 - Fixed ABW bug in storeDirWriteCleanLogs(). sizeof(off_t)
298 != sizeof(int) for Alphas.
299 - Fixed potential alignment problem in storeDirWriteCleanLogs().
300 - Fixed store_rebuild.c to NOT replace current, but
301 not-swapped-out StoreEntry's with on-disk entries.
302 - Changed storeCleanup() to call storeRelease on invalid
303 entries which don't have a swapfile (i.e. no unlink()
304 penalty).
305 - Fixed storeSwapInStart() to fail for unvalidated
306 entries.
307 - SNMP changes:
308 . renovated mib and added descriptions and comments
309 . added hit and byte counters to client_db , for
310 cacheClientTable
311 . cacheClientTable, netdbTable, cachePeerTable,
312 cacheConnTable now indexed by ip address. hash_lookup was
313 enhanced to allow for subsequent hash_next's similar to
314 hash_first, to speed up getnext's in tables which refer to
315 hash-table structures.
316 . added generic (well, sorf of) table indexing functionality
317 . added makefile dependencies for snmplib and cache_snmp.h
318 . WaisHost, WaisPort, Timeouts removed
319 . FdTable split into FdTable and ConnTable. FdTable simplified
320 . PeerTable and PeerStat merged and put into new cacheMesh
321 group
322 . cacheClientTable added for client statistics and accounting
323 (cacheMesh 2)
324 . cacheSec and cacheAccounting groups removed
325 . fixed acl bug when communities not defined
326 . snmp_acl now survives bad configuration

34ad1721 341 - Fixed CheckQuickAbort() bugs for multiple clients on one
342 StoreEntry. Also changed storePendingNClients() to return
343 mem->nclients instead of counting the number of store_client
344 entries with pending callback functions.
275d9f2e 345
041b157e 346Changes to squid-1.2.beta17 (Mar 17, 1998):
347
df43fc93 348 - SNMP MIB version check changed to non-rcs.
02922e76 349 - Added memory pools for variable size objects (strings).
350 There are three pools; for small, medium, and large objects.
351 - Extended String object to use memory pools. Most fixed size char
352 array fields will be replaced using string pools. Same for most
353 malloc()-ed buffers.
5e14bf6d 354 - Changed icon handling to use the hostname and port of the squid
9ed90c85 355 server, instead of the special hostname "internal.squid"
356 (Henrik Nordstrom).
5e14bf6d 357 - All icons are now configured in mime.conf. No hardcoded icons,
f8360ee3 358 including gohper icons (Henrik Nordstrom).
459f2559 359 - Fixed ICP bug when we send queries, but expect zero
360 replies.
ed9c0b33 361 - Fixed alignment/casting bugs for ICP messages.
2b5b6324 362 - A generic client-to-server "pump" was added to handle HTTP
363 PUT as well as POST methods on the client-cache side. Based on
364 "pump" PUT requests can be made to either HTTP or FTP url's.
365 Code is still beta and interoperability with browsers etc has
366 not been tested.
367 - Put #ifdefs around 'source_ping' code.
5e14bf6d 368 - Added missing typedef for _arp_ip_data (Wesha).
369 - Added regular-expression-based ACLs for client and server
370 domain names (Henrik Nordstrom).
371 - Fixed ident-related coredumps from incorrect callback data.
372 - Fixed parse_rfc1123() "space" bug.

374 - Fixed some src/asn.c end-of-reply bugs and memory leaks.
375 - Fixed some peer->options flag-setting bugs.
376 - Fixed single-parent feature to work again
377 - Removed 'single_parent_bypass' configuration option; instead
378 just use 'no-query'.
379 - Surrounded 'source_ping' code with #ifdefs.
380 - Changed 'deny_info URL' to use a custom Error page.
381 - Modified src/client.c for testing POST requests.
041b157e 382 - Fixed hash4() for SCO (Vlado Potisk).
459f2559 383
7ba777f2 384Changes to squid-1.2.beta16 (Mar 4, 1998):
385
447203a7 386 - Added Spanish error messages from Javier Puche.
02922e76 387 - Added Portuguese error messages from Pedro Lineu Orso
0965bd19 388 - Added a simple but very effective hack to cachemgr.cgi that tries to
389 interpret lines with '\t' as table records and formats them
390 accordingly. With a few exceptions (see source code), first line
391 becomes a table heading ("<th>" html tag) and the rest is formated
392 with "<td>" tags.
7021844c 393 - Added "mem_pools_limit" configuration option. Semantics of
394 "mem_pools" option has also changed a bit to reflect new memory
395 management policy.
7ba777f2 396 - Reorganized memory pools. Squid now supports a global pool
397 limit instead of individual pool limits. Per-pool limits can be
3a88d597 398 implemented on top of the current scheme if needed, but it is
7ba777f2 399 probably hard to guess their values. Squid distributes pool
400 memory among "frequently allocated" objects. There is a
401 configurable limit on the total amount of "idle" memory to be
402 kept in reserve. All requests that exceed that amount are
403 satisfied using malloc library. Support for variable size
404 objects (mostly strings) will be enabled soon.
405 - memAllocate() has now only one parameter. Objects are always
406 reset with 0s. (We actually never used that parameter before;
407 it was always set to "clear").
408 - Added Squid "signature" to all ERR_ pages. The signature is
409 hardcoded and is added on-the-fly. The signature may use
410 %-escapes. Added interface to add more hard-coded responses if
411 needed (see errorpage.c::error_hard_text).
412 - Both default and configured directories are searched for ERR_
413 pages now. Configured directory is, of course, searched first.
414 This allows you to customize a subset of ERR_ pages (in a
415 separate directory) without danger of getting other copies out
416 of sync.
417 - Security controls for the SNMP agent added. Besides
418 communities (like password) and views (part of tree
419 accessible), the snmp_acl config option can be used to do acl
420 based access checks per community.
421 - SNMP agent was heavily re-written, based on cmu-snmpV1.8. You
422 can now walk through the whole mib tree. Several new variables
423 added under cacheProtoAggregateStats
12cf1be2 424 - Added rudimental statistics for HTTP headers.
7ba777f2 425 - Adjusted StatLogHist to a more generic/flexible StatHist.
12cf1be2 426 Moved StatHist implementation into a separate file.
178dbda2 427 - Added FTP support for PORT if PASV fails, also try the
428 default FTP data port (Henrik Nordstrom).
429 - Fixed NULL pointer bug in clientGetHeadersForIMS when a
430 request is cancelled for fails on the client side.
431 - Filled in some squid.conf comments (never_direct,
432 always_direct).
433 - Added RES_DNSRCH to dnsserver's _res.options when the
434 -D command line option is given.
435 - Fixed repeated Detected DEAD/REVIVED Sibling messages when
436 peer->tcp_up == 0 (Michael O'Reilly).
437 - Fixed storeGetNextFile's incorrect "directory does not exist"
438 errors (Michael O'Reilly).
439 - Fixed aiops.c race condition (Michael O'Reilly, Stewart
440 Forster).
441 - Added 'dns_nameservers' config option to specify non-default
442 DNS nameserver addresses (Maxim Krasnyansky).
443 - Added lib/util.c code to show memory map as a tree
444 (Henrik Nordstrom).
445 - Added HTTP and ICP median service times to Counters and
446 cachemgr average stats.
447 - Changed "-d" command line option to take debugging level
448 as argument. Debugging equal-to or less-than the argument
449 will be written to stderr.
ef65d6ca 450 - Removed unused urlClean() function from url.c.
adba4a64 451 - Fixed a bug that allowed '?' parts of urls to be recorded in
ef65d6ca 452 store.log. Logged urls are now "clean".
178dbda2 453 - Cache Manager got new Web interface (cachemgr.cgi). New .cgi
454 script forwards basic authentication from browser to squid.
455 Authentication info is encoded within all dynamically generated
456 pages so you do not have to type your password often.
457 Authentication records expire after 3 hours (default) since
458 last use. Cachemgr.cgi now recognizes "action protection" types
459 described below.
460 - Added better recognition of available protection for actions
461 in Cache Manager. Actions are classified as "public" (no
462 password needed), "protected" (must specify a valid password),
463 "disabled" (those with a "disable" password in squid.conf), and
464 "hidden" (actions that require a password, but do not have
465 corresponding cachemgr_passwd entry). If you manage to request
466 a hidden, disabled, or unknown action, squid replies with
467 "Invalid URL" message. If a password is needed, and you failed
468 to provide one, squid replies with "Access Denied" message and
469 asks you to authenticate yourself.
470 - Added "basic" authentication scheme for the Cache Manager.
471 When a password protected function is accessed, Squid sends an
472 HTTP_UNAUTHORIZED reply allowing the client to authorize itself
473 by specifying "name" and "password" for the specified action.
474 The user name is currently used for logging purposes only. The
475 password must be an appropriate "cachemgr_passwd" entry from
476 squid.conf. The old interface (appending @password to the url)
477 is still supported but discouraged. Note: it is not possible
478 to pass authentication information between squid and browser
479 *via a web server*. The server will strip all authentication
480 headers coming from the browser. A similar problem exists for
481 Proxy-Authentication scheme.
482 - Added ERR_CACHE_MGR_ACCESS_DENIED page to notify of
483 authentication failures when accessing Cache Manager.
63259c34 484 - Added "-v" (Verbose) and "-H" (extra Headers) options to client.c.
178dbda2 485 - Added simple context-based debugging to debug.c. Currently,
486 the context is defined as a constant string. Context reporting
487 is triggered by debug() calls. Context debugging routines
488 print minimal amount of information sufficient to describe
489 current context. The interface will be enhanced in the future.
490 - Replaced _http_reply with HttpReply. HttpReply is a
491 stand-alone object that is responsible for parsing, swapping,
492 and comm_writing of HTTP replies. Moved these functions from
493 various modules into HttpReply module.
8bfcd557 494 - Added HttpStatusLine, HttpHeader, HttpBody.
178dbda2 495 - All HTTP headers are now parsed and stored in a "compiled"
496 form in the HttpHeader object. This allows for a great
497 flexibility in header processing and builds basis for support
498 of yet unsupported HTTP headers.
499 - Added Packer, a memory/store redirector with a printf
500 interface. Packer allows to comm_write() or swap() an object
501 using a single routine.
502 - Added MemBuf, a auto-growing memory buffer with printf
503 capabilities. MemBuf replaces most of old local buffers for
504 compiling text messages.
505 - Added MemPool that maintains a pre-allocated pool of opaque
506 objects. Used to eliminate memory thrashing when allocating
507 small objects (e.g. field-names and field-value in http
508 headers).

3197e644 510Changes to squid-1.2.beta15 (Feb 13, 1998):
511
55647891 512 NOTE: This version has changes which may cause all or part
513 of your cache to be lost. However, you can problably
514 save most of it by doing a slow restart. Specifically:
515
516 1. Kill the running squid-1.2.beta14 process; wait for it to
517 fully exit.
518 2. Remove all 'swap.state*' files, either in each cache_dir, or
519 as defined in your squid.conf
520 3. Start squid-1.2.beta15. The store will be rebuilt from the
521 existing swap files, reading the directories and opening
522 the files.
523
bcfbdc11 524 - Fixed some problems related to disk (and pipe) write error
525 handling. file_close() doesn't always close the file
526 immediately; i.e. when there are pending buffers to write.
527 StoreEntry->lock_count could become zero while a write is
528 pending, then bad things happen during the callback.
529 - The file_write() callback data must now be in the callback
530 database (cbdata). We now use the swapout_ctrl_t structure
531 for the callback data; it stays around for as long as we are
532 swapping out.
533 - Changed the way write errors are handled by diskHandleWrite.
534 If there is no callback function, now we exit with a fatal
535 message under the assumption that the file in question is a
536 log file or IPC pipe. Otherwise, we flush all the pending
537 write buffers (so we don't see multiple repeated write errors
538 from the same descriptor) and let the upper layer decide how
539 to handle the failure.
540 - Fixed storeDirWriteCleanLogs. A write failure was leaving
541 some empty swap.state files, even though it tells us that its
542 "not replacing the file." Don't flush/rename logs which we
543 have prematurely closed due to write failures, indiciated by
544 fd[dirn] == -1. Close these files LAST, not before
545 renaming.
546 - Fixed storeDirClean to clean directories in a more sensible
547 order, instead of the new "MONOTONIC" order for swap files.
0465e406 548 - Merged fdstat.c functions into fd.c.
549 - Cleaned up some debugging sections. Some unrelated source
550 files were using the same section.
551 - Removed curly brackets from all cachemgr output.
552 - Removed unused filemap->last_file_number_allocated member.
553 - Removed unused fde->lifetime_data member.
554 - Fixed incorrectly applying htonl() on icp_common_t->shostid.
555 - Call setsid() before exec() in ipc.c so that child processes
556 don't receive SIGINT (etc) when running squid on a tty.
2f2dd5ad 557 - Changed StoreEntry->object_len to ->swap_file_sz so we
558 can verify the disk file size at restart. Moved object_len
559 to MemObject->object_sz. Note object_sz is initialized
560 to -1. If object_sz < 0, then we need to open the swap
561 file and read the swap metadata.
562 - Changed store_client->mem to ->entry because we need
563 e->swap_file_sz to set mem->object_sz at swapin.
2f2dd5ad 564 - Renamed storeSwapData structure to storeSwapLogData.
565 - Fixed storeGetNextFile to not increment d->dirn. Added
566 check for opendir() failure.
567 - Fixed storeRebuildStart to properly link the directory
568 list for storeRebuildfromDirectory mode.
e157f97f 569 - Added -S command line option to double-check store
570 consistency with disk files in storeCleanup().
571 - Fixed a problem with transactional logging. In many
572 cases we were adding the public cache key and then
573 logging a delete for the private key. This is worthless
574 because during rebuild we could not locate the previous
575 public-keyed entry. Now we assert that only public-keyed
576 entries can be logged to swap.state. storeSetPublicKey()
577 and storeSetPrivateKey() have been modified to log an
578 ADD or DEL when the key changes.
579 - Fixed storeDirClean bug. Needed to call
580 storeDirProperFileno() so the "dirn bits" get set.
581 - Fixed a storeRebuildFromDirectory bug. fullpath[] and
582 fullfilename[] were static to that function and did
583 not change when the "rebuild_dir" arg did. Moved these
584 buffers to the rebuild_dir structure.
585 - In storeRebuildFromSwapLog, we were calling storeRelease()
586 for cache key collisions. This only set the RELEASE_REQUEST
587 bit and did not clear the swap_file_number in the filemap or
588 in the StoreEntry, so the swap file could get unlinked later
589 when it was really released.
4e0f0471 590 - Fixed FTP so that ';type=X' specifically sets the HTTP reply
591 content-type and content-encoding (Henrik Nordstrom).
592 - Removed 'icon_content_type' configuration option. Content
593 types now taken from mime.conf (Henrik Nordstrom).
2a9b2b73 594 - Added additional memory malloc tracing and memory leak
595 detection. Use --enable-xmalloc-debug-trace configure
596 option and -m command line option (Henrik Nordstrom).
bcfbdc11 597
93169941 598Changes to squid-1.2.beta14 (Feb 6, 1998):
599
5471db88 600 - Replaced snmplib free() calls with xfree().
601 - Changed the 'net_db_name' hash table structure to
602 make it easier to move names from one network to another
603 (copied from 1.1 code).
93169941 604 - Filled in some of the config dump routines (dump_acl,
605 dump_acl_access).
606 - Full memory debugging option (--enable-xmalloc-debug-trace)
607 (Henrik Nordstrom).
608 - Filled-in and clarified many squid.conf comments (Oskar
609 Pearson).
610 - Fixed up handling of SWAP_LOG_DEL swap.state entries.
5471db88 611
f91834bf 612Changes to squid-1.2.beta13 (Feb 4, 1998):
f577e074 613
b4512acd 614 - NOTE: With this version the "swap.state" file format has
615 changed. Running this version for the first time will
616 cause your current cache contents to be lost!
f91834bf 617 - NOTE: this version still has the bug where we don't rewind
618 a swapout file and rewrite the swap meta data. Objects
619 larger than 8KB will be lost when rebuilding from the swap
620 files.
d04dd4bf 621 - Combined various interprocess communication setup functions
622 into ipcCreate().
623 - Removed some leftover ICP_HIT_OBJ things.
624 - Removed cacheinfo and proto_count() and friends; these are to
625 be replaced in functionality by StatCounters and 5/60 minute
626 average views via cachemgr.
627 - Fixed --enable-acltree configure message (Masashi Fujita).
628 - Fixed no reference to @LIB_MALLOC@ in src/Makefile.in
629 (Masashi Fujita).
630 - Fixed building outside of source tree (Masashi Fujita).
dbfed404 631 - FTP: Format NLST listings, and inform the user that the NLST
632 (plain) format is available when we find a LIST listing that we
633 don't understand (Henrik Nordstrom)
634 - FTP: Use SIZE on Binary transfers, and not ASCII. The
635 condition was inversed, making squid use SIZE on ASCII
636 transfers (Henrik Nordstrom).
637 - Enable virtual and Host: based acceleration in order to be
638 able to use Squid as a transparent proxy without breaking
639 either virtual servers or clients not sending Host: header
640 the order of the virtual and Host: based acceleration needs
641 to be swapped, giving Host: a higher precendence than virtual
642 host (Henrik Nordstrom).
643 - Use memmove/bcopy as detected by configure Some systems does
644 not have memmove, but have the older bcopy implementation
645 (Henrik Nordstrom).
6cf028ab 646 - Completely rewritten aiops.c that creates and manages a pool
647 of threads so thread creation overhead is eliminated (SLF).
648 - Lots of mods to store.c to detect and cancel outstanding
649 ASYNC ops. Code is not proven exhaustive and there are
650 definately still cases to be found where outstanding disk ops
651 aren't cancelled properly (SLF).
652 - Changes to call interface to a few routines to support disk
653 op `tagging', so operations can be cleanly cancelled on
654 store_abort()s (SLF).
655 - Implementation of swap.state files as transaction logs.
656 Removed objects are now noted with a negative object size.
657 This allows reliatively clean rebuilds from non-clean
658 shutdowns (SLF).
659 - Now that the swap.state files are transaction logs, there's
660 now no need to validate by stat()ing. All the validation
661 procedure does is now just set the valid bit AFTER all the
662 swap.state files have been read, because by that time, only
663 valid objects can be left. Object still need to be marked
664 invalid when reading the swap.state file because there's no
665 guarantee the file has been retaken or deleted (SLF).
666 - An fstat() call is now added after every
667 storeSwapInFileOpened() so object sizes can be checked. Added
668 code to storeRelease() the object if the sizes don't match (SLF).
669 - #defining USE_ASYNC_IO now uses the async unlink() rather than
670 unlinkd() (SLF).
671 - #defining MONOTONIC_STORE will support the creation of disk
672 objects clustered into directories. This GREATLY improves disk
673 performance (factor of 3) over old `write-over-old-object'
674 method. If using the MONOTONIC_STORE, the
675 {get/put}_unusedFileno stack stuff is disabled. This is
676 actually a good thing and greatly reduces the risk of serving
677 up bad objects (SLF).
678 - Fixed unlink() in storeWriteCleanLogs to be real unlink()
679 rather than ASYNC/unlinkd unlinks. swap.state.new files were
680 being removed just after they were created due to delayed
681 unlinks (SLF).
682 - Disabled various assertions and made these into debug warning
683 messages to make the code more stable until the bugs can be
684 tracked down (SLF).
685 - Added most of Michael O'Reilly's patches which included many
686 bug fixes. Ask him for full details (SLF).
687 - Moved aio_check_callbacks in comm_{poll|select}(). It was
688 called after the fdset had been built which was wrong because
689 the callbacks were changing the state of the read/write
690 handlers prior to the poll/select() calls (SLF).
f09f5b26 691 - Fixed ARP ACL memory leaks (Dale).
f577e074 692 - Eliminated URL and SHA cache keys. Cache keys will always
693 be MD5's now.
694 - Fixed up store swap meta data.
695 - Changed swap.state logs to a binary format.
f91834bf 696 - The swap.state logs are written transaction-style.
d04dd4bf 697
b5cfbd5b 698Changes to squid-1.2.beta12 (Jan 30, 1998):
699
b4512acd 700 - Added metadata headers to cache swap files. This is an
701 incompatible change with previous versions. Running this
702 version for the first time will cause your current cache
703 contents to be lost.
9fc0b4b8 704 - -D_REENTRANT when linking with -lpthreads (Henrik Nordstrom)
705 - Show symlink destinations as a hyperlink in FTP listings
706 (Henrik Nordstrom)
3a4eaced 707 - Fixed not allocating enough space for rewriting URLs with
708 the Host: header (Eric Stern).
709 - Year-2000 fixes (Arjan de Vet).
710 - Fixed looping for cache hits on HEAD requests.
fc6dc767 711 - Fixed parseHttpRequest() coredump for
712 "GET http://foo HTTP/1.0\r\n\r\n\r\n"
9fc0b4b8 713
9f802cb1 714Changes to squid-1.2.beta11 (Jan 6, 1998):
715
fd82d0b0 716 - Fixed fake 'struct rusage' definition which prevented compling
717 on Solaris 2.4.
718 - Fixed copy-by-ref bug for request->headers in
719 clientRedirectDone() (Michael O'Reilly).
812db943 720 - Workaround for Solaris pthreads closing FD 0 upon fork()
721 (Michael O'Reilly).
05fd71a7 722 - Fixed shutdown bug with outgoing UDP sockets; we need to
723 disable their read handlers.
724 - For comm_poll(), use the fast 50 msec timeout only when
725 USE_ASYNC_IO is defined.
1fbc6de3 726 - Fixed pointer bug when freeing AS# ACL entries.
727 - Fixed forgetting to reset Config.npeers to zero in free_peer().
0f6bdbfa 728 - Fixed ICP bug causing excessive TIMEOUTs with sibling
729 neighbors. We must call the ICP reply callback even for
730 sibling misses.
731 - Fixed some dnsserver-related reconfigure bugs. Need to
732 use cbdataLock, etc in fqdncache.c. Also don't want to
733 use ipcacheQueueDrain() and fqdncacheQueueDrain().
734 - Fixed persistent connection bug. We were incorrectly
735 deciding that non-200 replies without content-length
736 would not have a reply body.
737 - Fixed intAverage() precedence bug.
738 - Fixed memmove() 'len' arg bug.
739 - Changed algorithm for determining alive/dead state of peers.
740 Instead of using a fixed number of unacknowledged ICP
741 replies, it is now based on timeouts. If there are no ICP
742 replies received from a peer within 'dead_peer_timeout'
743 seconds, then we call it dead.
744 - Added calls to getCurrentTime() in
745 comm_{select,poll}_incoming() when ALARM_UPDATES_TIME is not
746 being used.
747 - Fixed shutdown bug when the incoming and outgoing ICP socket
748 is the same file descriptor.
e970f357 749 - Added buffered writes for storeWriteCleanLogs() (Stewart
750 Forster).
751 - Patches for Qnx4 (Jean-Claude MICHOT).
752 - Fixed returning void functions which seems to be a GCC-ism.
e5f4e1b0 753 - New configure script options (Henrik Nordstrom):
754 --enable-new-storekey=[sha|md5(|url)] (was --enable-hashkey)
755 --enable-acltree
756 --enable-icmp
757 --enable-delay-hack
758 --enable-useragent-log
759 --enable-kill-parent (this should be named -hack)
760 --enable-snmp
761 --enable-time-hack
762 --enable-cachemgr-hostname[=hostname] (new)
763 --enable-arp-acl (new)
764 - Added Doug Lea malloc-2.6.4 to the distribution, so that
765 people easily can try a decent malloc package if they syspect
766 their malloc is broken. --enable-dlmalloc (Henrik Nordstrom).
767 - Made XMALLOC_DEBUG_COUNT working again. Requires a small stub
768 function (Henrik Nordstrom).
769 - Removed top-level Makefile. People must now run 'configure'
770 before 'make'.
714ace98 771 - Fixed checkFailureRatio() implementation.
82b3c7d9 772 - Made 'squid -z' behave like the 1.1 version.
e5f4e1b0 773
fd82d0b0 774
ab9a3f7e 775Changes to squid-1.2.beta10 (Jan 1, 1998):
776
777 - Fixed content-length bugs for 204 replies, 304 replies,
778 and HEAD requests (Henrik Nordstrom).
779 - Fixed errorAppendEntry() bug in gopherReadReply().
780 - Basic support for FTP URL typecodes (;type=X).
9c965c1b 781 - Support for access controls based on ethernet MAC addresses
ab9a3f7e 782 (Dale).
783 - Initial URN support; see
784 http://squid.nlanr.net/Squid/urn-support.html
785 - Fixed client-side persistent connections for objects with
786 bad content lengths (Henrik Nordstrom).
787 - Fixed bad call to storeDirUpdateSwapSize() for objects which
788 never reach SWAPOUT_DONE state.
68e3a9df 789 - Fixed up poll() #defines in squid.h (Stewart Forster).
790 - Changed poll() timeout from 1000 msec to 50 msec for
791 better performance under low load (Stewart Forster).
e7a1fde6 792 - Changed storeWriteCleanLogs() to write objects in the LRU
793 list order instead of the random hash table order.
109ff6af 794 - Fixed FTP bug when data socket connections fail or timeout.
795 - Reuse FTP data connection when possible (Henrik Nordstrom).
796 - Added configure options (Henrik Nordstrom)
797 --enable-store-key=sha|md5
798 --enable-xmalloc-statistics
799 --enable-xmalloc-debug
78743365 800 --enable-xmalloc-debug-count
801 --async-io
109203bf 802 - Fixed confusing with the use/meaning of ERR_CANNOT_FORWARD
803 by creating ERR_FORWARDING_DENIED and changing the
804 content of the ERR_CANNOT_FORWARD text.
4e9c07c1 805 - Fixed pipeline request bug from using strdup() (Henrik
806 Nordstrom).
807 - Call clientReadRequest() directly instead of commSetSelect()
808 for pipelined requests (Henrik Nordstrom).
1b02b5be 809 - Fixed 4k page leak in icpHandleIMSReply();
810 - Renamed 'icp*' functions to 'client*' names in client_side.c.
e7a1fde6 811
b90a0f8d 812Changes to squid-1.2.beta8 (Dec 2, 1997):
813
eae03fc8 814 - Fixed accessLogLog() to log ident from Proxy-Authorization
815 request header (BoB Miorelli).
226f9ba2 816 - Fixed #includes, prototypes, etc. in SNMP source files.
817 - Moved 'POLLRDNORM' and 'POLLWRNORM' macro checks from
818 include/config.h.in to src/squid.h
819 - Moved 'num32' typedefs from src/typedefs.h to
820 include/config.h.in.
821 - Moved snmplib/md5.c to lib/md5.c.
822 - Added MD5 cache key support.
823 - Removed xmalloc() return check in uudeocde.c
824 - Added 'ifdef' support to cf_gen.c for optional code (e.g. SNMP)
825 - Changed 'client' program to provide easier cache manager access,
826 e.g.: 'client mgr:info'
827 - Fixed 'client' to send 'Connection' instead of 'Proxy-Connection'
828 for simulated keep-alive requests.
829 - Removed 'fd' arg from clientProcess* functions.
9e3468d5 830 - Fixed bugs from using errorSend() on persistent/pipelined
226f9ba2 831 client connections. A latter request should not be allowed to
832 write to the client fd until the current request completes.
833 Now use errorAppendEntry() for such situations.
834 - Fixed content-length bugs. We were using content-length == 0
835 to also indicate a lack of content-length reply header. But
836 'content-length: 0' might appear in a reply, so now use -1 to
837 indicate that no content length given.
838 - Split up clientProcessRequest() into smaller chunks so it
839 might be easier to follow.
840 - renamed various client_side.c functions to start with 'client'
841 instead of 'icp'.
842 - Fixed a 'cbdata leak' from the comm.c close handlers.
843 - Fixed a 'cbdata leak' from the comm.c connect routines.
844 - Fixed comm_select() and comm_poll() to stop looping on the
845 incoming HTTP/ICP sockets. If there are fewer than 7 FD's
846 ready for I/O, the incoming sockets might not get service, so
847 comm_select() would be called for up to 7 times until the
848 'incoming_counter' was incremented enough to trigger a call
849 to comm_select_incoming(). Now we make sure
850 comm_select_incoming() gets called if select returns less
851 than 7 ready FD's.
9e3468d5 852 - Added errorpage '%B' token to generate FTP URLs with a '%2f'
853 inserted at the start of the url-path. calls ftpUrlWith2f().
854 (Henrik Nordstrom).
226f9ba2 855 - Changed fqdncache.c to use LRU double-linked list instead of qsort()
856 for replacement and cachemgr output.
857 - Changed ipcache.c to use LRU double-linked list instead of qsort()
858 - Changed hash_insert() and hash_join() to return void.
859 for replacement and cachemgr output.
860 - Moved StoreEntry->method member to MemObject->method.
861 - Made StoreEntry->flags 16 bits.
862 - Made StoreEntry->refcount 16 bits.
863 - Changed URL-based public cache key to always include the request
864 method.
eae03fc8 865
95bc9f0b 866Changes to squid-1.2.beta7 (Nov 24, 1997):
867
6a11653c 868 - Fixed poll() for Linux (David Luyer).
869 - SHA optimizations (David Luyer).
870 - Fixed errno clashes with macro on Linux (David Luyer).
871 - Fixed storeDirCloseSwapLogs(); logs might not be open.
872 - Fixed storeClientCopy2() bug. Detect when there is
873 no more data to send for objects in STORE_OK state.
19ee64b1 874 - Fixed FTP truncation bug when ftpState->size == 0, e.g.
875 especially directory listings.
95bc9f0b 876 - Mega FTP fix from Henrik Nordstrom. A better job of
877 implementing the '%2f' hack.
878 - Fixed some pipelined request bugs. storeClientCopy() was
879 being given the wrong StoreEntry, and we had a race condition
880 which is now handled by storeClientCopyPending().
99077fe6 881 - Added initial SNMP support.
6a11653c 882
2c9b45c9 883Changes to squid-1.2.beta6 (Nov 13, 1997):
884
1b5516d3 885 - Fixed Authorized responses getting swapped out when they
886 don't have Proxy-Revalidate reply header.
887 - Fixed Proxy Authentication support. We never sent back
888 a 407 reply, and were incorrectly incrementing the passwd
889 before comparing it.
890 - Fixed stat()ing pathnames for default values before parsing
891 config file (Ron Gomes).
892 - Fixed logging request and response headers on separate lines
893 (Ron Gomes).
894 - Fixed FTP Authentication message (Henrik Nordstrom).
895 - Changed Proxy Authentication to trigger a reread of the passwd
896 file if a password check fails (Henrik Nordstrom).
897 - Changed FTP to retry the first CWD with a leading slash if it
898 fails without one.
899
8c17a569 900Changes to squid-1.2.beta5 (Nov 6, 1997):
901
90045285 902 - Track the 'keep-alive ratio' for a peer as the ratio of
903 the number of replies including 'Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive'
904 compared to the number of requests sent. If the peer does
905 not support Persistent connections then this ratio will tend
906 toward zero. If the ratio is less than 50% after 10 requests
907 then we'll stop sending Keep-Alive.
8c3994aa 908 - Proper support for %nn escapes in FTP, and numerous
909 other fixes (Henrik Nordstrom).
910 - Support for Secure Hash Algorithm and framework for other
911 hash functions as cache keys.
912 - Fixed SSL snprintf() bug which broke SSL proxying.
913 - Fixed store_dir swap log bug from reconfigure (SIGHUP).
8c17a569 914 - Fixed LRU Reference Age bug. The arg to pow() must be
8031bd43 915 minutes, not seconds.
90045285 916
9ddfb255 917Changes to squid-1.2.beta4 (Oct 30, 1997):
918
a493f974 919 - Fixed DST bug in rfc1123.c
920 - Changed default http_accel_port to 80.
921 - added errorCon() as a ErrorState constructor function
922 (Max Okumoto).
923 - Added ERR_FTP_FAILURE message for ftpFail().
924 - For FTP, the timeout callback must be moved to the 'data'
925 descriptor when data transfer begins. Otherwise we are
926 likely to get a timeout on the control descriptor.
927 - Fixed double-free bug in httpRequestFree().
928 - Fixed store_swap_size counting bug in storeSwapOutHandle().
929
409a6aad 930Changes to squid-1.2.beta3 (Oct 29, 1997):
931
932 - Initialize _res.options to RES_DEFAULT in dnsserver.c.
933 - Fix assertions which assumed 4-byte pointers.
934 - Fix missing % in fqdncache.c snprintf().
935
5a2d610b 936Changes to squid-1.2.beta2 (Oct 28, 1997):
937
8c3994aa 938 - Fixed aiops.c and async_io.c so that they actually compile
f5b8bbc4 939 with USE_ASYNC_IO (Arjan de Vet).
940 - Fixed errState->errno causing problems with some macros
941 (Michael O'Reilly).
d287f51e 942 - Fixed memory leaks in pconn.c (Max Okumoto).
0866009b 943 - Enhanced 'client' program with 'ping' behaviour (Ron Gomes).
272547b5 944 - Fixed InvokeHandlers() from calling memCopy() for ALL
945 store_client's with callbacks. A store_client might be reading
946 from disk.
5a2d610b 947 - Rewrote storeMaintainSwapSpace(). No longer will we scan one
272547b5 948 bucket at a time. Instead we'll maintain a single LRU
949 list. When an object is 'touched' we move it to the
950 top of this list. When we need disk space, we delete
951 from the bottom.
5a2d610b 952 - Removed storeGetSwapSpace().
f5b8bbc4 953
871f0b8a 954Changes to squid-1.2.beta1 ():
955
956 - Reworked storage manager to not keep objects in memory during
957 transit. In other words, no separate NOVM distribution.
958 - Lots of cleanup and debugging for beta release.
959 - Use snprintf() everywhere instead of sprintf().
960 - The 'in_memory' hash table has been replaced with a
961 doubly-linked list. New objects are added to the head of
962 the list. When memory space is needed, old objects are
963 purged from the tail of the list.
964
0edfe7a2 965Changes to squid-1.2.alpha7 ():
966
c4958532 967 - fixes fixes fixes.
968 - Made Arjan's PROXY_AUTH ACL patch standard.
0edfe7a2 969
8905b90c 970Changes to squid-1.2.alpha6 ():
971
6684fec0 972 - Simpler cacheobj implementation.
6605655c 973 - persistent connection histogram
8872e1f8 974 - SERVER-SIDE PERSISTENT CONNECTIONS:
975 - Added pconn.c
976 - Addec Cofig.Timeout.pconn; default 120 seconds
977 - Added httpState->flags
978 - Added flags arg to httpBuildRequestHeader()
979 - Added HTTP_PROXYING and HTTP_KEEPALIVE flags
980 - Added 'Connection' to allowed HTTP headers (http-anon.c)
981 - Added 'Proxy-Connection' to allowed HTTP headers
982 (http-anon.c)
a7736231 983 - Merged proxyhttpStart() with httpStart() and created
8872e1f8 984 new httpBuildState().
985 - New httpPconnTransferDone() detects end-of-data on
986 persistent connections.
6684fec0 987
88738790 988Changes to squid-1.2.alpha5 ():
989
990 - New configuration system. Everything is generated from
991 'cf.data.pre', including the main parser, setting defaults,
992 outputting current values, and freeing memory.
993 This also involved moving some of the local data structures
994 (e.g. struct _acl *AclList in acl.c) to the Config
995 structure. (Max Okumoto)
996 - No more '/i' for regular expressions. Now insert a '-i'
997 to switch to case-insensitive. Use '+i' for case-sensitive.
998 - When you have a variable named the same as its type, sizeof()
999 gets the wrong one (fde).
1000 - Need to flush unbuffered logs before fork().
1001 - Added two fields swap log: refcount and e->flag.
1002 - Removed all the .h files for each .c file. Now #include stuff
1003 is in either: defines.h, enums.h, typedefs.h, structs.h,
1004 or protos.h, globals.h. This greatly reduces dependencies
1005 between the various source files.
1006 - globals.c is generated from globals.h by a Perl script.
8ee3ca2c 1007 - Started customizable error texts.
88738790 1008
97f674c8 1009Changes to squid-1.2.alpha4 ():
1010
ec973719 1011 - New MIME configuration, regular expression based
1012 - Added request_timeout config option
1013 - Multiple HTTP sockets (Lincoln Dale).
1014 - Moved 'fds_are_n_free' check to httpAccept().
1015 - s/USE_POLL/HAVE_POLL/; make poll() default if available.
7e49f700 1016 - Changed storeRegister to use offsets and make immediate
1017 callbacks if appropriate.
1018 - Removed icpDetectClientClose(). Some of that functionality
1019 goes into clientReadRequest() and the rest into
1020 httpRequestFree().
b1b387d1 1021 - Moved IP lookups to commConnect stuff.
1022 - Added support for retrying connect().
858164fc 1023 - New inline debug() macro (David Luyer).
e174e0fe 1024 - Replace frequent gettimeofday() calls with alarm(3) based
1025 clock. Need to add more gettimeofday() calls to get back
a59968c7 1026 high-resolution timestamp logging (Andres Kroonmaa).
0153d498 1027 - Added support for Cache-control: proxy-revalidate;
1028 based on squid-1.1 patch from Mike Mitchell.
ec973719 1029
3b08d32d 1030Changes to squid-1.2.alpha3 ():
1031
1032 - Implemented persistent connections between clients and squid.
1033 - Moved various FD tables (comm.c, fdstat.c, disk.c) to a single
1034 table in fd.c.
1035 - Removed use of FD as an identifier in certain callback
1036 operations (ipcache, fqdncache).
1037 - General code cleanup.
1038 - Fixed typedefs for callback functions.
1039 - Removed FD lifetime/timeout dichotomy. Now we only have
1040 timeouts, however the lifetime concept/keyword may still
1041 linger in certain places.
1042 - Change Makefile 'realclean' target to 'distclean'
1043 - Changed config file parsing of time specifications to use
1044 parseTimeLine().
1045 - Removed storetoString.c
1046
1047Changes to squid-1.2.alpha2 ():
74cebec0 1048
1049 - Merged squid-1.1.9, squid-1.1.10 changes
1050

1052
1053 - Unified peer selection algorithm.
75e88d56 1054 - aiops.c and aiops.h are a threaded implementation of
1055 asynchronous file operations (Stewart Forster).
1056 - async_io.c and async_io.h are complete rewrites of the old
1057 versions (Stewart Forster).
6ad85e8a 1058 - Rewrote all disk file operations of squid to support
75e88d56 1059 the idea of callbacks except where not required (Stewart
1060 Forster).
75e88d56 1061 - Background validation of 'tainted' swap log entries (Stewart
1062 Forster).
1063 - Modified storeWriteCleanLog to create the log file using the
1064 open/write rather than fopen/printf (Stewart Forster).
1065 - Added the EINTR error response to handle badly interrupted
1066 system calls (Stewart Forster).
6ad85e8a 1067 - UDP_HIT_OBJ not supported, removed.
1068 - Different sized 'cache_dirs' supported.
75e88d56 1069
e924600d 1070==============================================================================
7b41ec97 1071
88738790 1072Changes to squid-1.1.14 (July 11, 1997):
1073
1074 - Another try at log_url crap. Added icpState->log_url
1075 member. Set mem_obj->log_url in new_MemObject() which
1076 means passing more args to storeCreateEntry(). Also added
1077 urlClean() which calls urlParse(); needed for ICP logging.
1078 - Clean URLs will be truncated at '?' if present.
1079 - Give fd_note() the clean URL.
1080
1081Changes to squid-1.1.13 (July 9, 1997):
1082
1083 - Fixed storeLog() coredump on mem->log_url.
1084 - Fixed string bounds bug if a redirector returns a short
1085 hostname which require appending 'append_domain' (David
1086 Lamkin).
1087 - Added 'fake_user_agent' to configuration because HTTP
1088 anonymizing strips the User-Agent which some servers require.
1089
1090Changes to squid-1.1.12 (July 5, 1997):
1091
1092 - Fixed dnsserver buffer overflow bug and other problems related
1093 to long, bogus domain names.
1094 - Fixed occasional incorrect ERR_DNS_FAIL errors caused when
1095 an IP cache entry gets released about the same time an
1096 ICP query timeout occurs.
1097 - Fixed setrlimit() bugs seen on DUNIX 4.0; rl.rlim_max == 0.
1098 - Only strip 'Proxy-authorization' header when USE_PROXY_AUTH
1099 is defined and proxy_auth is configured (Ron Gomes).
1100 - Added missing calls to reset socket timeouts for SSL
1101 and passthrough requests.
1102 - Fixed "Available number of file descriptors" value in
1103 cachemgr info output.
1104 - Fixed coredump in proxyAuthenticate() if password file
1105 has an entry with only a user name (Jordan Hrycaj).
1106 - Security patch for usernames and passwords in URLs.
1107 + ftpget would insert a BASE URL including the username and
1108 password for directory listings IF the original request did
1109 NOT include the the trailing slash. This could be disabled
1110 with a command line option, but is enabled by default. Now
1111 its #ifdefd out.
1112 + Usernames and passwords could be logged to access.log and
1113 store.log. Now a new element,
1114 StoreEntry->MemObject->log_url, holds a copy of the requested
1115 URL without the name and password. This isn't 100% fixed yet
1116 because log_url gets generated when the StoreEntry gets
1117 created. If the StoreEntry never gets created, then the URL
1118 with name and password will get logged. Also, the name and
1119 password are not stripped from ICP requests. Also, this
1120 changes store.log. Previously we logged StoreEntry->key
1121 which would look different than the URL for private entries,
1122 but now we'll always log the URL.
1123 + Finally, we now set REQ_AUTH for any request that includes a
1124 name or password. This prevents the request from being
1125 cached (!) and prevents it from being sent to neighbor
1126 caches. In other words, its treated just as if an
1127 Authorization request header were present.
1128 - Fixed Byte-Range handling so that valid, whole objects
1129 are not released.
1130
1131Changes to squid-1.1.11 (June 14, 1997):
1132
1133 - Clean up NeXTStep compiler warnings (Karsten Heinze, Ed Knowles).
1134 - Don't forward 'Proxy-Authorization' headers (Chris Pascoe).

1139 - Fixed "eventDelete(peerCheckConnect, e);" bug when the DNS lookup
1140 is pending.
1141 - Add sys/types.h to lib/safe_inet_addr.c for NeXTSTEP (Timo
1142 Hennerich).

1148 fatal_dump().
1149 - Fixed noticing that dnsservers have shut down during restart.
1150 - Added contrib/nextstep installer package from Gerben Wierda.
1151 - Modified storeDirClean() to remove swap files where the
1152 number is being used, but the file is in the wrong directory.
1153 - Allow PURGE method on all protocols.
1154 - Added 'icp_hit_stale' option.
1155 - Fixed proxy auth refresh bug (Chris Pascoe).
1156 - Don't check for other filename extensions if an FTP URL
1157 ends with .txt (Ed Knowles).
1158 - Relocated ERR_NO_CLIENT_BIG_OBJ check to eliminate incorrect
1159 (but harmless) error message.
1160
6ad85e8a 1161Changes to squid-1.1.10 (April 24, 1997):
1162
1163 - Require 0 <= multicast ttl <= 128.

1169 - Fixed reconfigure/SIGHUP to wait 'shutdown_lifetime' seconds
1170 after receiving signal (Ron Gomes).

1187 (Neil Murray).
1188 - Optimized comm_select() functions (Mark Treacy).
1189 - Fixed ipcache_release() to not release locked entries;
1190 instead expire them immediately.
1191 - Fixed up rebuild code to handle swapfile/URL clash
1192 cases better.
1193 - Added safe_inet_addr() to protect from bogus IP addresses
1194 (Arjan de Vet).
1195 - Fixed handling of ssl_proxy and passthrough_proxy when not
1196 behind a firewall.
1197
1198
1199Changes to squid-1.1.9 (March 30, 1997):
1200
1201 - Fixed aclIpNetworkCompare for USE_SPLAY_TREE; was applying
1202 netmask to non-local variable through pointer. (Ansgar
1203 Hockmann).
1204 - Fixed cachemgr bug incorrectly assigning connect() return
1205 value (Nigel Metheringham).
1206 - Fixed diskHandleWrite bug: not setting write_daemon = PRESENT.

1228 - Deny access to dangerous TCP ports (7, 9, 19).
1229 - Removed single-line functions: fdstat_biggest_fd(),
1230 comm_get_fd_lifetime(), comm_get_fd_timeout().
1231 - Removed storeCheckExpired() from storeGetSwapSpace() as
1232 likely cause of slowing down cache when exceeding the high
1233 water mark.
1234 - Fixed storeCheckExpired() to not always check the
1235 LRU expiration age (Mark Treacy).
1236 - Lowered 'store_objects_per_bucket' to 20 so that
1237 storeMaintainSwapSpace() runs frequently enough to
1238 keep up with incoming objects.
1239 - Fixed FTP to use the Authorization header only when the
1240 usernames match.

468c23d3 1282 - Fixed urlParse to leave trailing slashes on FTP URLs. Although
1283 stripping the slashes offers a slight hit rate increase, it
1284 breaks some proxies which return HTTP redirects.
1285 - Initialize struct tm in parse_rfc1123() (Henrik Hempelmann).
1286 - Fixed parseHttpRequest() to use memcpy instead of strncpy;
1287 caused POST's with NULL bytes to fail (Joe Ramey).

234967c9 2606 - Added support for If-Modified-Since GET requests.
2607 - Added support for SSL and https objects.
2608 - Added background processing for rebuilding the disk store
2609 while serving requests. Cache can now serve requests immediately.
2610 - Added a 'reconfigure' feature activated by SIGHUP. The config
2611 file is re-read and most changes will take effect.
2612 - Added an internal flag for using private keys with ICP queries
2613 to neighbors. If any neighbor returns a reqnum field of zero,
2614 then disable using private keys. But still use private
2615 keys for things with bypass the ICP query step (such as POST
2616 and IMS-GET).
2617 - Added a function to verify content-lengths. Objects with
2618 mismatched (but non-zero) content lenghts will be ejected.
2619 - Added clean shutdown mode. On SIGTERM the incoming HTTP socket
2620 is closed. Active clients are given a lifetime of 30 seconds
2621 (configurable). Process exits when all sockets are closed.
2622 - Added support for large POST objects.
2623 - Added "store.log" which logs RELEASE/SWAPIN/SWAPOUT events.
2624 - Added announce feature to squid; no longer external program.
2625 If enabled, a running cache will announce itself every 24 hrs.

2627 - Added new Access Control List scheme.
2628 - Added Forwarded: header to proxy HTTP requests (HTTP/1.1 feature).
2629 - Added weights neighbors.

2631 makes hostnames all lowercase.
2d15012a 2632 - Added (section,level) debugging and 'debug_options' config line.
2633 - Added 'pid_filename' to configuration file.
234967c9 2634 - Added 'visible_hostname' to configuration file.

2637 - added 'dns_negative_ttl' to configuration file.
2638 - Added 'shutdown_lifetime' to configuration file.
2639 - Fixed bug where cache process would "spin" on large objects
2640 being deferred.
2641 - Fixed byte order conversion bug on setting echo port.
2d15012a 2642 - Changed meaning of command line -b (buffered logs) option.
2643 Now the default behaviour is unbuffered logs, use -b to make
2644 them buffered.
2d15012a 2645 - Changed WAIS code to always be fully compiled in.
234967c9 2646 - Changed the storage manager to use the notion of private and
2647 public keys. Requests are now private until the reply headers
2648 have been read.
2649 - Changed access logging significantly. Entries to "access.log"
2650 are written when the client connection closes. Every connection
2651 is logged exactly once, always with a valid size.
2cf0aa81 2652 - Changed access log format (non-common) to include request
2653 method and sub-second timestamps.
234967c9 2654 - Changed handing of ECONNRESET (connection reset) errors.
2655 Now treated like any other read error.
2656 - Changed 'rotate logs' to be activated by SIGUSR1.
2657 - Changed configure script to look specifically for tm_gmtoff
2658 and set HAVE_TM_GMTOFF.
2659 - Changed configure script to look specifically extended mallinfo
2660 structure and set HAVE_EXT_MALLINFO
2661 - Changed ICP reply code to use negative TTL value as UDP_HIT
2662 threshold so we never return a HIT on neg-cached objects.
2663 - Changed ftpget to use select(2) on I/O for timeouts. ftpget
cdd8d814 2664 now exits immediately if stdin goes away.
234967c9 2665 - Changed handling of '-z' option. Now only execute 'rm -rf ...' if
2666 -U option also given.
2667 - Removed the command line -d (debug) option. Use 'debug_options'
2668 in config file.
2669 - Removed all code and references to binary port.
2670 - Removed dual logging to stderr/cache.log.
2671 - Removed old IP access controls ('proxy_allow', etc.)
