31 <title>Description
</title>
33 <para><filename>systemd-remount-fs.service
</filename> is an
34 early boot service that applies mount options listed in
35 <citerefentry project='man-pages'
><refentrytitle>fstab
</refentrytitle><manvolnum>5</manvolnum></citerefentry>
36 to the root file system, the
<filename>/usr
</filename> file system,
37 and the kernel API file systems. This is required so that the
38 mount options of these file systems — which are pre-mounted by
39 the kernel, the initial RAM disk, container environments or system
40 manager code — are updated to those listed in
41 <filename>/etc/fstab
</filename>. This service ignores normal file
42 systems and only changes the root file system (i.e.
43 <filename>/
</filename>),
<filename>/usr
</filename> and the virtual
44 kernel API file systems such as
<filename>/proc
</filename>,
45 <filename>/sys
</filename> or
<filename>/dev
</filename>. This
46 service executes no operation if
<filename>/etc/fstab
</filename>
47 does not exist or lists no entries for the mentioned file
