Rebuild manpage and HTML doc when xmltoman is available

Adjust configure.ac to detect if xmltoman is available; use that in
man/Makefile.am to rebuild the manpage and HTML file (generated from the
same source) if necessary.

manpage: correct compatable => compatible typos

Update the source XML manpage, then re-generate the manpage and HTML
version using xmltoman and xmlmantohtml.

Fix data allignment issue

Different processor targets may have different word alignment restrictions.
Typically, a two or four byte integer should start on a four-byte address in
order to be fetched correctly over a bus. An access of a misaligned memory
element may cause a bus error.

Therefore, we need to adjust the contents of a message by copying it into a new
location, before interpreting it.

Add check for processor endianness. Fix a small warning.

Clarify the help wording a little.
