ef416fc2 47.SH DESCRIPTION
48\fIcupsaddsmb\fR exports printers to the SAMBA software (version
492.2.0 or higher) for use with Windows clients. Depending on the
50SAMBA configuration, you may need to provide a password to
51export the printers. This program requires the Windows printer
52driver files described below.
89d46774 53
bd7854cb 54.SH OPTIONS
55\fIcupsaddsmb\fR supports the following options:
56.TP 5
57-H samba-server
58.br
59Specifies the SAMBA server which defaults to the CUPS server.
60.TP 5
61-U samba-user[%samba-password]
62.br
63Specifies the SAMBA print admin username which defaults to your
64current username. If the username contains a percent (%)
65character, then the text following the percent is treated as the
66SAMBA password to use.
67.TP 5
68-a
69.br
70Exports all known printers. Otherwise only the named printers are
71exported.
72.TP 5
73-h cups-server[:port]
80ca4592 74.br
bd7854cb 75Specifies a different CUPS server to use.
76.TP 5
77-v
80ca4592 78.br
bd7854cb 79Specifies that verbose information should be shown. This is
80useful for debugging SAMBA configuration problems.

ef416fc2 82.SH SAMBA CONFIGURATION
83\fIcupsaddsmb\fR uses the new RPC-based printing support in
84SAMBA 2.2.x to provide printer drivers and PPD files to Windows
85client machines. In order to use this functionality, you must
bd7854cb 86first configure the SAMBA \fIsmb.conf(5)\fR file to support
ef416fc2 87printing through CUPS and provide a printer driver download
88share, as follows:
89.nf
90
91 [global]
92 load printers = yes
93 printing = cups
94 printcap name = cups
95
96 [printers]
97 comment = All Printers
98 path = /var/spool/samba
99 browseable = no
100 public = yes
101 guest ok = yes
102 writable = no
103 printable = yes
104 printer admin = root
105
106 [print$]
107 comment = Printer Drivers
108 path = /etc/samba/drivers
109 browseable = yes
110 guest ok = no
111 read only = yes
112 write list = root
113.fi
114.LP
115This configuration assumes a FHS-compliant installation of
116SAMBA; adjust the [printers] and [print$] share paths
117accordingly on your system as needed.
118
119.SH MICROSOFT POSTSCRIPT DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS
120The base driver for Windows 2000 and higher is the Microsoft
121PostScript driver, which is available on any system running
122Windows 2000 or higher in the
123%WINDOWS%\\SYSTEM32\\SPOOL\\DRIVERS\\W32X86\\3 folder.
124.LP
125The CUPS printer driver is preferred over the Microsoft driver
126since it supports the page-label, job-billing, and
127job-hold-until options fully on all printers. However, currently
128only Windows 2000 and higher is supported by the Microsoft
129driver, so you will also need to get the Adobe driver to support
130Windows 95, 98, and Me clients. The Adobe and Microsoft drivers
131for Windows 2000 are identical.
132.LP
bd7854cb 133Once you have extracted the driver files, copy them to the
134\fI@CUPS_DATADIR@/drivers\fR directory exactly as named below:
ef416fc2 135.nf
136
137 [Windows 2000 and higher]
138 ps5ui.dll
139 pscript.hlp
140 pscript.ntf
141 pscript5.dll
142.fi
89d46774 143.LP
144\fBNote:\fR Unlike Windows, case is significant - make sure that
145you use the lowercase filenames shown above, otherwise
146\fIcupsaddsmb\fR will fail to export the drivers.
ef416fc2 147
148.SH CUPS POSTSCRIPT DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS
149\fIcupsaddsmb\fR can use the CUPS v6 PostScript printer driver
150for Windows, which is available for download from the CUPS web
151site.
152.LP
153The CUPS printer driver is preferred over the Adobe and
154Microsoft drivers since it supports the page-label, job-billing,
155and job-hold-until options fully on all printers. However,
156currently only Windows 2000 and higher is supported by the CUPS
157driver, so you will also need to get the Adobe driver to support
158Windows 95, 98, and Me clients.
159.LP
bd7854cb 160Once you have extracted the driver files, copy them to the
161\fI@CUPS_DATADIR@/drivers\fR directory exactly as named below:
ef416fc2 162.nf

175\fBNote:\fR Unlike Windows, case is significant - make sure that
176you use the lowercase filenames shown above, otherwise
177\fIcupsaddsmb\fR will fail to export the drivers.
ef416fc2 178
bd7854cb 179.SH ADOBE POSTSCRIPT DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS 95, 98, AND ME
ef416fc2 180\fIcupsaddsmb\fR can use the Adobe PostScript printer driver for
bd7854cb 181Windows 95, 98, and ME, which are available for download from the
182Adobe web site (http://www.adobe.com).
ef416fc2 183.LP
bd7854cb 184The Adobe driver does not support the page-label, job-billing, or
185job-hold-until options.
ef416fc2 186.LP
89d46774 187Once you have installed the driver on a Windows system, copy the
188following files to the \fI@CUPS_DATADIR@/drivers\fR directory
189exactly as named below:
ef416fc2 190.nf
191
192 [Windows 95, 98, and Me]
193 ADFONTS.MFM
194 ADOBEPS4.DRV
195 ADOBEPS4.HLP
196 ICONLIB.DLL
197 PSMON.DLL
198.fi
89d46774 199.LP
200\fBNote:\fR Unlike Windows, case is significant - make sure that
201you use the UPPERCASE filenames shown above, otherwise
202\fIcupsaddsmb\fR will fail to export the drivers.
