154The Linux Kernel software program of the LiquidIO Software Package is licensed
155under the GPL2, and the terms of which are as follows:
156
157GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE
158Version 2, June 1991
159Copyright (C) 1989, 1991 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
16051 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301, USA
161
162Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copiesof this license
163document, but changing it is not allowed.
164i. Preamble
165The licenses for most software are designed to take away your freedom to share
166and change it. By contrast, the GNU General Public License is intended to
167guarantee your freedom to share and change free software--to make sure the
168software is free for all its users. This General Public License applies to most
169of the Free Software Foundation's software and to any other program whose
170authors commit to using it. (Some other Free Software Foundation software is
171covered by the GNU Lesser General Public License instead.)
172You can apply it to your programs, too.
173When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not price.
174Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom
175to distribute copies of free software (and charge for this service if you wish),
176 that you receive source code or can get it if you want it, that you can change
177the software or use pieces of it in new free programs; and that you know you can
178 do these things.
179To protect your rights, we need to make restrictions that forbid anyone to deny
180you these rights or to ask you to surrender the rights. These restrictions
181translate to certain responsibilities for you if you distribute copies of the
182software, or if you modify it.
183For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a
184 fee, you must give the recipients all the rights that you have. You must make
185sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them
186these terms so they know their rights.
187We protect your rights with two steps: (1) copyright the software, and
188(2) offer you this license which gives you legal permission to copy, distribute
189and/or modify the software.
190Also, for each author's protection and ours, we want to make certain that
191everyone understands that there is no warranty for this free software.
192If the software is modified by someone else and passed on, we want its
193recipients to know that what they have is not the original, so that any problems
194 introduced by others will not reflect on the original authors' reputations.
195Finally, any free program is threatened constantly by software patents. We wish
196to avoid the danger that redistributors of a free program will individually
197obtain patent licenses, in effect making the program proprietary.
198To prevent this, we have made it clear that any patent must be licensed for
199everyone's free use or not licensed at all.
200The precise terms and conditions for copying, distribution and modification
201follow.
202ii. TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING, DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION
2030. This License applies to any program or other work which contains a notice
204placed by the copyright holder saying it may be distributed under the terms of
205this General Public License. The "Program", below, refers to any such program or
206 work, and a "work based on the Program" means either the Program or any
207derivative work under copyright law: that is to say, a work containing the
208Program or a portion of it, either verbatim or with modifications and/or
209translated into another language. (Hereinafter, translation is included without
210limitation in the term "modification".) Each licensee is addressed as "you".
211Activities other than copying, distribution and modification are not covered by
212this License; they are outside its scope. The act of running the Program is not
213restricted, and the output from the Program is covered only if its contents
214constitute a work based on the Program (independent of having been made by
215running the Program). Whether that is true depends on what the Program does.
2161. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the Program's source code as
217you receive it, in any medium, provided that you conspicuously and appropriately
218 publish on each copy an appropriate copyright notice and disclaimer of
219warranty; keep intact all the notices that refer to this License and to the
220absence of any warranty; and give any other recipients of the Program a copy of
221 this License along with the Program.
222You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy, and you may
223at your option offer warranty protection in exchange for a fee.
2242. You may modify your copy or copies of the Program or any portion of it, thus
225forming a work based on the Program, and copy and distribute such modifications
226or work under the terms of Section 1 above, provided that you also meet all of
227these conditions:
228a) You must cause the modified files to carry prominent notices stating that you
229 changed the files and the date of any change.
230b) You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in
231part contains or is derived from the Program or any part thereof, to be licensed
232 as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License.
233c) If the modified program normally reads commands interactively when run, you
234must cause it, when started running for such interactive use in the most
235ordinary way, to print or display an announcement including an appropriate
236copyright notice and a notice that there is no warranty (or else, saying that
237you provide a warranty) and that users may redistribute the program under these
238conditions, and telling the user how to view a copy of this License.
239(Exception: if the Program itself is interactive but does not normally print
240such an announcement, your work based on the Program is not required to print an
241 announcement.)
242These requirements apply to the modified work as a whole. If identifiable
243sections of that work are not derived from the Program, and can be reasonably
244considered independent and separate works in themselves, then this License, and
245its terms, do not apply to those sections when you distribute them as separate
246works. But when you distribute the same sections as part of a whole which is a
247work based on the Program, the distribution of the whole must be on the terms of
248this License, whose permissions for other licensees extend to the entire whole,
249and thus to each and every part regardless of who wrote it.
250Thus, it is not the intent of this section to claim rights or contest your
251rights to work written entirely by you; rather, the intent is to exercise the
252right to control the distribution of derivative or collective works based on the
253Program.
254In addition, mere aggregation of another work not based on the Program with the
255Program (or with a work based on the Program) on a volume of a storage or
256distribution medium does not bring the other work under the scope of this
257License.
2583. You may copy and distribute the Program (or a work based on it, under
259Section 2) in object code or executable form under the terms of Sections 1 and 2
260above provided that you also do one of the following:
261a) Accompany it with the complete corresponding machine-readable source code,
262which must be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium
263customarily used for software interchange; or,
264b) Accompany it with a written offer, valid for at least three years, to give
265any third party, for a charge no more than your cost of physically performing
266source distribution, a complete machine-readable copy of the corresponding
267source code, to be distributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a
268medium customarily used for software interchange; or,
269c) Accompany it with the information you received as to the offer to distribute
270corresponding source code. (This alternative is allowed only for noncommercial
271distribution and only if you received the program in object code or executable
272form with such an offer, in accord with Subsection b above.)
273The source code for a work means the preferred form of the work for making
274modifications to it. For an executable work, complete source code means all the
275source code for all modules it contains, plus any associated interface
276definition files, plus the scripts used to control compilation and installation
277of the executable. However, as a special exception, the source code distributed
278need not include anything that is normally distributed (in either source or
279binary form) with the major components (compiler, kernel, and so on) of the
280operating system on which the executable runs, unless that component itself
281accompanies the executable.
282If distribution of executable or object code is made by offering access to copy
283from a designated place, then offering equivalent access to copy the source code
284from the same place counts as distribution of the source code, even though third
285parties are not compelled to copy the source along with the object code.
2864. You may not copy, modify, sublicense, or distribute the Program except as
287expressly provided under this License. Any attempt otherwise to copy, modify,
288sublicense or distribute the Program is void, and will automatically terminate
289your rights under this License. However, parties who have received copies, or
290rights, from you under this License will not have their licenses terminated so
291long as such parties remain in full compliance.
2925. You are not required to accept this License, since you have not signed it.
293However, nothing else grants you permission to modify or distribute the Program
294or its derivative works. These actions are prohibited by law if you do not
295accept this License. Therefore, by modifying or distributing the Program (or
296any work based on the Program), you indicate your acceptance of this License to
297do so, and all its terms and conditions for copying, distributing or modifying
298the Program or works based on it.
2996. Each time you redistribute the Program (or any work based on the Program),
300the recipient automatically receives a license from the original licensor to
301copy, distribute or modify the Program subject to these terms and conditions.
302You may not impose any further restrictions on the recipients' exercise of the
303rights granted herein. You are not responsible for enforcing compliance by
304third parties to this License.
3057. If, as a consequence of a court judgment or allegation of patent infringement
306or for any other reason (not limited to patent issues), conditions are imposed
307on you (whether by court order, agreement or otherwise) that contradict the
308conditions of this License, they do not excuse you from the conditions of this
309License. If you cannot distribute so as to satisfy simultaneously your
310obligations under this License and any other pertinent obligations, then as a
311consequence you may not distribute the Program at all. For example, if a patent
312license would not permit royalty-free redistribution of the Program by all those
313who receive copies directly or indirectly through you, then the only way you
314could satisfy both it and this License would be to refrain entirely from
315distribution of the Program. If any portion of this section is held invalid or
316unenforceable under any particular circumstance, the balance of the section is
317intended to apply and the section as a whole is intended to apply in other
318circumstances. It is not the purpose of this section to induce you to infringe
319any patents or other property right claims or to contest validity of any such
320claims; this section has the sole purpose of protecting the integrity of the
321free software distribution system, which is implemented by public license
322practices. Many people have made generous contributions to the wide range of
323software distributed through that system in reliance on consistent application
324of that system; it is up to the author/donor to decide if he or she is willing
325to distribute software through any other system and a licensee cannot impose
326that choice.
327This section is intended to make thoroughly clear what is believed to be a
328consequence of the rest of this License.
3298. If the distribution and/or use of the Program is restricted in certain
330countries either by patents or by copyrighted interfaces, the original
331copyright holder who places the Program under this License may add an explicit
332geographical distribution limitation excluding those countries, so that
333distribution is permitted only in or among countries not thus excluded. In such
334case, this License incorporates the limitation as if written in the body of this
335License.
3369. The Free Software Foundation may publish revised and/or new versions of the
337General Public License from time to time. Such new versions will be similar in
338spirit to the present version, but may differ in detail to address new problems
339or concerns.
340Each version is given a distinguishing version number. If the Program specifies
341a version number of this License which applies to it and "any later version",
342you have the option of following the terms and conditions either of that
343version or of any later version published by the Free Software Foundation.
344If the Program does not specify a version number of this License, you may
345choose any version ever published by the Free Software Foundation.
34610. If you wish to incorporate parts of the Program into other free programs
347whose distribution conditions are different, write to the author to ask for
348permission. For software which is copyrighted by the Free Software Foundation,
349write to the Free Software Foundation; we sometimes make exceptions for this.
350Our decision will be guided by the two goals of preserving the free status of
351all derivatives of our free software and of promoting the sharing and reuse of
352software generally.
353NO WARRANTY
35411. BECAUSE THE PROGRAM IS LICENSED FREE OF CHARGE, THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR
355THE PROGRAM, TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW. EXCEPT WHEN OTHERWISE
356STATED IN WRITING THE COPYRIGHT HOLDERS AND/OR OTHER PARTIES PROVIDE THE
357PROGRAM "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED,
358INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND
359FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND
360PERFORMANCE OF THE PROGRAM IS WITH YOU. SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE,
361YOU ASSUME THE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR CORRECTION.
36212. IN NO EVENT UNLESS REQUIRED BY APPLICABLE LAW OR AGREED TO IN WRITING WILL
363ANY COPYRIGHT HOLDER, OR ANY OTHER PARTY WHO MAY MODIFY AND/OR REDISTRIBUTE THE
364PROGRAM AS PERMITTED ABOVE, BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR DAMAGES, INCLUDING ANY GENERAL,
365SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR
366INABILITY TO USE THE PROGRAM (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA OR DATA
367BEING RENDERED INACCURATE OR LOSSES SUSTAINED BY YOU OR THIRD PARTIES OR A
368FAILURE OF THE PROGRAM TO OPERATE WITH ANY OTHER PROGRAMS), EVEN IF SUCH HOLDER
369OR OTHER PARTY HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
370 END OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS
371
372 How to Apply These Terms to Your New Programs
373
374 If you develop a new program, and you want it to be of the greatest
375possible use to the public, the best way to achieve this is to make it
376free software which everyone can redistribute and change under these terms.
377
378 To do so, attach the following notices to the program. It is safest
379to attach them to the start of each source file to most effectively
380convey the exclusion of warranty; and each file should have at least
381the "copyright" line and a pointer to where the full notice is found.
382
383 <one line to give the program's name and a brief idea of what it does.>
384 Copyright (C) <year> <name of author>
385
386 This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify
387 it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by
388 the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or
389 (at your option) any later version.
390
391 This program is distributed in the hope that it will be useful,
392 but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of
393 MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. See the
394 GNU General Public License for more details.
395
396 You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License along
397 with this program; if not, write to the Free Software Foundation, Inc.,
398 51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA.
399
400Also add information on how to contact you by electronic and paper mail.
401
402If the program is interactive, make it output a short notice like this
403when it starts in an interactive mode:
404
405 Gnomovision version 69, Copyright (C) year name of author
406 Gnomovision comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type `show w'.
407 This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
408 under certain conditions; type `show c' for details.
409
410The hypothetical commands `show w' and `show c' should show the appropriate
411parts of the General Public License. Of course, the commands you use may
412be called something other than `show w' and `show c'; they could even be
413mouse-clicks or menu items--whatever suits your program.
414
415You should also get your employer (if you work as a programmer) or your
416school, if any, to sign a "copyright disclaimer" for the program, if
417necessary. Here is a sample; alter the names:
418
419 Yoyodyne, Inc., hereby disclaims all copyright interest in the program
420 `Gnomovision' (which makes passes at compilers) written by James Hacker.
421
422 <signature of Ty Coon>, 1 April 1989
423 Ty Coon, President of Vice
424
425This General Public License does not permit incorporating your program into
426proprietary programs. If your program is a subroutine library, you may
427consider it more useful to permit linking proprietary applications with the
428library. If this is what you want to do, use the GNU Lesser General
429Public License instead of this License.
