Subject: [PATCH] make an 0.8 branch.  imitate pyramid's scheme to the degree
 that they only release from branches.   the motivation here is mostly due to
 readthedocs hardcoded URI scheme, and the fact that I am wasting this morning
 angsting over how much trouble it will be to move the docs to a self-hosted
 system *again*.   really need docs to be on an 0.6/0.7/0.8/0.x system so that
 links are permanent
