5 openssl-rand - generate pseudo-random bytes
13 [B<-writerand> I<file>]
18 =for openssl ifdef engine
22 This command outputs I<num> pseudo-random bytes after seeding
23 the random number generator once. As in other B<openssl> command
24 line tools, PRNG seeding uses the file F<$HOME/.rnd> or F<.rnd>
25 in addition to the files given in the B<-rand> option. A new
26 F<$HOME/.rnd> or F<.rnd> file will be written back if enough
27 seeding was obtained from these sources.
35 Print out a usage message.
39 Write to I<file> instead of standard output.
41 =item B<-rand> I<files>
43 The files containing random data used to seed the random number generator.
44 Multiple files can be specified separated by an OS-dependent character.
45 The separator is B<;> for MS-Windows, B<,> for OpenVMS, and B<:> for
48 =item B<-writerand> I<file>
50 Writes random data to the specified I<file> upon exit.
51 This can be used with a subsequent B<-rand> flag.
55 Perform base64 encoding on the output.
59 Show the output as a hex string.
