2just follow the steps:
3
50e1e10f 41) Change directory into the top of the e2fsprogs source tree
3839e657 5
50e1e10f 62) Create a build directory and cd into it:
3839e657 7
50e1e10f 8 mkdir build; cd build
3839e657 9
50e1e10f 103) Run the configure script

14 If you wish to turn on DLL shared libraries, add the option
15flag --enable-dll-shlibs. If you wish to turn on ELF shared
16libraries, add the option --enable-elf-shlibs. If you wish to build
17profiling libraries, add the option --enable-profile.

32
33 You can run `make install-libs' to install the include files and
34libraries. Please note that this installation is not needed for the
35programs to work. It is only needed if you expect to develop other

36programs using the libraries or if you want to compile other program
37using these libraries (like the 4.4BSD dump and restore port).
38
5c576477 398) Remove any pre-formatted man pages.

40
41 Some distributions will have pre-formatted manual pages which
42will always be displayed in preference to newer man pages in /usr/man.
43If this is the case, you may need to manually remove them in order to
44see the correct manual pages. The shell script in
45install-utils/remove_preformat_manpages may be helpful in doing so.

5c576477 479) Make sure your /etc/fstab file is correct.

48
49 Some distributions install an /etc/fstab which is missing the
50fifth and sixth field of filesystem entry, which are the dump
51frequency, and the fsck pass number, respectively. The problem with
52this is that the getmntent() library routine interprets those missing
53fields as "0", and a pass number of 0 is documented as meaning that
54fsck should not check that particular filesystem. If your entries in
55your /etc/fstab file look liks this:
56
57/dev/hda4 / ext2 defaults
58
59you should add "1 1" at the end of each line, so that they look like this:
60
61/dev/hda4 / ext2 defaults 1 1
3839e657 62
50e1e10f 63 There is a script in install-utils/convfstab (donated by
6f4a1097 64Michael Weller) that may help you correct your /etc/fstab file.
