6e3d4276 4CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.19
5
8b7032be 6 - The socket backend could report the wrong number of
7 backchannel bytes if an error occurred on the link.
33073884 8 - The cups-polld program now only sleeps after getting
9 all printers and classes. This allows for longer
10 intervals without excessive delays before classes show
11 up...
2e32fcdb 12 - Added a new httpWait() function to support waiting for
13 data for a specific number of milliseconds.
14 - httpGets() now times out after 1 second on
15 non-blocking HTTP connections.
bce0c833 16 - The scheduler no longer accepts rangeOfInteger values
17 that are out of order (e.g. 5-1)
18 - The sides attribute was incorrectly sent as a name
19 value; it is a keyword value.
67474245 20 - The IPP backend now detects if the destination queue
21 has gone away and reports an error.
2e32fcdb 22 - The scheduler and HTTP API now allocate their select()
23 sets to support larger numbers of clients on systems
24 that support it.
cc6d5b1e 25 - The scheduler now sets the CFProcessPath environment
26 variable under MacOS X.
27 - The cupsLangDefault() function now uses the
28 CoreFoundation localization API under MacOS X.
f353d925 29 - The httpSeparate() function didn't handle file URIs of
30 the form "file:///path" properly.
b2d75006 31 - The lpadmin command now supports a "protocol" option
32 for specifying the binary communications protocol to
33 use when printing binary PostScript data.
9c4b5e2e 34 - The scheduler did not properly parse the SystemGroup
35 directive, so only the first group would be used.
36992080 36 - Revamped how strings are stored in the scheduler,
37 providing a substantial improvement in memory usage
38 for systems with large numbers of printers.
610e4a98 39 - The PostScript filter now supports binary PostScript
2ddb40fe 40 files and files beginning with the PJL language escape
41 sequence.
49d1718a 42 - The PPD API now provides additional information from
43 the PPD file.
6a35dc4e 44 - The USB backend didn't compile on Solaris Intel.
98c2aef5 45 - The cupstestppd utility now supports the "-q" option
46 (quiet) for use in scripts, etc.
6db7190f 47 - Merged several weight-reducing changes into the CUPS
48 baseline donated by Apple.
dcfcaeac 49 - Added preliminary support for CDSA; patch provided by
50 Apple.
8bd0441f 51 - Implicit classes are now created from identical
52 printer classes on the network.
faa0f7b5 53 - The lp command now supports a "-H restart" option to
54 restart previously printed jobs. This functionality
55 only works if you have enabled the PreserveJobFiles
56 option.
57 - The scheduler now supports URIs in HTTP request lines
58 to conform to the HTTP/1.1 specification.
cb114623 59 - The time-at-xyz attributes were not recognized in
60 banner files if prefixed by a question mark, e.g.
61 "{?time-at-creation}".
a684a3b0 62 - Added support for pre-filtering application/pictwps
63 files on MacOS clients before sending them to a server
64 via IPP.
edd85093 65 - The scheduler now allows file:/dev/null device URIs
66 even if FileDevices is set to No.
7e3ba0af 67 - CUPS uses strerror() for hostname resolution errors,
68 when it should have used hstrerror().
273e40d6 69 - The USB backend no longer tries to guess the serial
70 number of a device from the USB devices file; this
71 means that printers that don't report their serial
72 numbers in the device ID string will not be
73 individually selectable.
d0598693 74 - The pstops filter didn't handle page ranges properly
75 when a page contained an embedded document.
cb114623 76 - Added a translation of the web interface to German.
96eae06b 77 - When printing using the OutputOrder=Reverse option
78 with duplexing, the output order is now truly
79 reversed; the order of sub-pages when printing N-up is
80 the same.
81 - The pstops filter did not always output the extra
82 blank page when printing a document with an odd number
83 of pages with duplexing enabled.
2d850885 84 - The ippAddXYZ functions no longer allow the
85 application to add less than 1 value.
5b28477f 86 - Fixed a URL rewrite bug in the web interface - local
87 access was sometimes redirected away from localhost...
256f3670 88 - The ppdOpen() functions could get in an infinite loop
89 if the PPD file contained a keyword or text that was
90 too large for the buffer.
bcf61448 91 - Added preliminary support for GNU TLS; patch provided
92 by Jeff Licquia.
aea6601a 93 - Now timeout IPP attribute reads after 1 second inside
94 an attribute definition.
de218675 95 - Now timeout connections that have been shutdown (due
96 to errors) after 30 seconds instead of the Timeout
97 setting (300 seconds by default). This provides
98 faster recovery from DoS attacks.
f0ad8cdc 99 - A denial-of-service attack warning message was being
100 written to the log files by the scheduler for every
101 detection. This caused a DoS of its own in some
102 situations. The warning message is now written no more
103 than once per minute.
67fa1315 104 - Fixed the CIE colorspace support code in the image and
105 PS RIPs.
320115a7 106 - The job-quota-period, job-page-limit, and job-k-limit
107 attributes were not flagged as integers, so setting
108 quotas would not work.
6e3d4276 109 - Added an additional response check in the scheduler to
110 more quickly recover from denial-of-service attacks.
111 - The cupstestppd file was incorrectly installed in the
112 /usr/sbin directory instead of /usr/bin.
113 - The EPM list file did not include the cupstestppd
114 program or man page files.
115
116
759f5023 117CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.18
118
e38a7cef 119 - Fixed a bug in the Set-Job-Attributes code in the
120 scheduler that would cause it to crash or continuously
121 write a job control file.
f63a430f 122 - SECURITY FIX: The scheduler now provides a FileDevice
123 directive to control whether new printers can be added
124 using device URIs of the form "file:/filename". The
125 default is to not allow printers with these device
126 URIs.
767ae392 127 - The scheduler did not compute the cost of filters
128 properly, nor did it choose a multi-filter solution
129 with a lower cost than a single filter solution.
00528abb 130 - Now install CUPS PPD file test utility (cupstestppd)
131 to support basic conformance testing of PPD files.
132 - The scheduler now logs an error message when it sees a
133 non-conforming PPD file.
ae65da6c 134 - Upgraded pdftops filter to Xpdf 2.01 with fixes for
135 TrueType fonts.
1060c9b6 136 - Added a MaxClientsPerHost configuration directive to
137 provide limited protection against Denial of Service
138 attacks.
901b295d 139 - SECURITY FIX: Potential underflow/overflow bug in web
140 interface.
141 - SECURITY FIX: Race condition in certificate creation.
142 - SECURITY FIX: Bad URIs in browse packets could be used
143 to exploint the web interface underflow/overflow bug.
901b295d 144 - SECURITY FIX: Some types of Denial of Service attacks
145 were not handled properly, so once the attack was over
146 the scheduler did not close the connections
147 immediately on all platforms.
099f4d77 148 - SECURITY FIXES: Added integer overflow/underflow
149 checks for all image formats.
9c1ee2b9 150 - The pstops filter didn't reset the showpage operator
151 back to its original at the end of a job; this
152 prevented the concatenation of documents (used
153 primarily for CUPS 1.2...)
0e66dba3 154 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't always set the
155 cupsLastError() value when an error occurred.
daeeb91c 156 - The IPP media, output-bin, and sides attributes took
157 precedence over the corresponding PPD options, which
158 caused inconsistent behavior under MacOS X with some
159 PPD files.
dcc2e394 160 - The cupsaddsmb utility specified the wrong number of
161 arguments to the adddriver command when adding the
162 Win9x PostScript drivers.
dd44d54e 163 - The web interface did not always report the correct
164 error message.
759f5023 165 - The scheduler did not clear the POSIX signal action
166 structure when waiting for the child to send it a
167 SIGUSR1 signal; this could cause the signal handler
168 not to be called properly, preventing the parent
169 process from returning.
170
171
3cc7bca4 172CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.17
173
5c826e17 174 - The "manual_copies" option did not work when the LPD
175 backend had to retry a print job.
3c892427 176 - The image filters did not convert GIF images properly.
2d21c1ef 177 - The RunAsUser option was incompatible with the new
178 daemon-mode code in 1.1.16.
2d5e06dd 179 - Fixed a problem with the Set-Job-Attributes and
180 PostScript job ticket code in the scheduler - the
181 "last" attribute pointer was never updated, which
182 could cause the scheduler to crash when applying job
183 ticket data.
184 - Fixed a problem in the scheduler that caused it to
185 continue processing HTTP requests on a connection
186 after it was shutdown.
3d6f3b2b 187 - The scheduler now allows accounts authenticated via
188 PAM to not have a corresponding UNIX account, but
189 group membership still requires the account name to be
190 listed in the UNIX group file(s)...
673d1710 191 - The scheduler used a fixed-size (16k) buffer for
192 encoding job options for filters; it now dynamically
193 allocates and expands the buffer as needed depending
194 on the options that are sent in a job.
8ee2dc56 195 - The pdftops filter didn't support all of the MacOS
196 characters for MacRoman encoded fonts.
a7cc258b 197 - The cupsEncodeOptions() and cupsParseOptions()
198 functions now conform to the grammer defined by the
199 current draft of the PAPI specification. The main
200 difference is that option=yes and option=no are no
201 longer treated as boolean options.
7914a6a1 202 - The IPP backend didn't honor the encryption settings
203 in /etc/cups/client.conf.
dfac1292 204 - Fixed a potential bug in the HTTP code which was
205 caused by servers sending the status line and
206 newline(s) in separate packets.
13f5eff6 207 - User-defined classification strings are now printed
208 verbatim - previously the classification box would be
209 empty.
78143282 210 - Re-added Spanish to the list of PPD languages that
211 CUPS supports.
e0578e6e 212 - CUPS API library user and temp file updates for
213 Windows.
f33d1239 214 - The image filters did not properly handle grayscale
215 printing of Sun Raster images.
bf9e2a45 216 - The scheduler never reset the NumJobs variable before
217 loading the job list (previously this only happened on
218 a full start, so the problem was never apparent...)
bdbaa675 219 - The HTTP and IPP read/write code didn't handle EINTR
220 (interrupted system call) errors.
221 - When under high load, the scheduler could abort due to
222 the wrong errno value after a select() call. This was
223 caused by the child signal handler.
224 - Added new load tests to the test target to verify that
225 cupsd can handle hundreds of simultaneous jobs without
226 error.
e1e31a38 227 - The Solaris USB backend now supports the new device
228 URI syntax.
7a1c86c5 229 - The ppdOpen*() functions now reset the numeric locale
230 settings while loading a PPD file.
b2fdde8d 231 - Fixed the libtool build rules.
232 - The manpage make rules didn't use $(MAKE) and
233 $(MFLAGS) for the language subdirectories.
d0e4469d 234 - Now set the LC_TIME locale category to get the
235 properly localized time string.
549d1888 236 - Fixed a problem in the scheduler that would cause the
237 web interface problems when adding, modifying, or
238 configuring a printer or class.
98904cd6 239 - The backends now ignore SIGPIPE so that failed job
240 filters will not stop a print queue.
d47f8ebe 241 - The lpstat command did not allow for destination lists
242 ("lpstat -v printer1,printer2")
243 - Fixed parsing of long filter status messages in the
244 scheduler.
245 - Added some startup performance enhancements to the
246 scheduler so that the printer object information is
247 regenerated fewer times and the MIME type database is
248 not filled with lots of empty filters for raw/direct
249 queues.
854d3bb2 250 - The LPD backend now sends the job title as the print
251 filename.
137d4d44 252 - Added support for variable sizes in the EPSON dot
253 matrix printer drivers. This allows for pages as
254 short as 1/2" (1 row of labels) and does not do an
255 automatic form feed.
256 - French translation updates.
e639fb32 257 - The filters did not quote the page label string when
258 embedding it in PostScript output.
3cc7bca4 259 - The serial backend now enumerates serial ports under
260 MacOS X.
261 - The pdftops filter contained font rasterizer code that
262 wasn't being used and that depended on X11. This code
263 has been removed.
264
265
06415a96 266CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.16
267
727e6d14 268 - The cancel and lprm commands now both display an error
269 message and return a non-zero exit status if an
270 attempt is made to cancel a job on a non-existent
271 printer.
272 - The lpoptions command incorrectly complained if a
273 request to delete a non-existent printer was made.
807a1ef5 274 - If the client.conf file defines an alternate server
275 name, the "configure printer" action in the web
276 interface might not work.
7cc9aebd 277 - The lpstat command now supports a "-W" option so that
278 you can display completed jobs as well as
279 not-completed (pending) jobs.
a1ca1702 280 - The lp and lpr commands did not return an error when
281 one or more files in a set of files for printing could
282 not be printed.
3b8ff70f 283 - The lp, lpadmin, and lpstat commands now consistently
284 return with a non-zero exit status when an error
285 occurs.
db628f45 286 - The scheduler would not accept print jobs sent to a
287 stopped remote printer.
da1bfd3d 288 - The texttops filter incorrectly converted the page
289 numbers in the prettyprint header to double-byte
290 characters when printing a non-Unicode text file. This
291 caused an extra space to appear between each digit in
292 the page number.
da312e94 293 - The scheduler did not use a case-insensitive
294 comparison when adding filters for a printer.
be8c3862 295 - Upgraded the pdftops filter to Xpdf 1.01.
801766ac 296 - The scheduler no longer passes the page-border and
297 number-up-layout attributes to filters when printing
298 banner pages.
25037b2b 299 - The LPD backend now uses a 30-second timeout when
300 sending commands and control files, and a 30-second
301 timeout when retrieving responses from an LPD server.
1aef57ed 302 If a timeout occurs, it retries indefinitely. This
25037b2b 303 helps to make LPD printing over VPNs work more
304 reliably.
a9219725 305 - The USB backend now supports device URIs based on the
306 printer serial number and/or model number under Linux.
307 This avoids the "wrong device filename" problem when
308 using more than one USB printer.
c3c5af5e 309 - Now just shutdown the receiving end of a client
310 connection when sending an error that requires the
311 server to disconnect from the client afterwards. This
312 fixes a problem when doing remote administration with
313 encryption enabled.
b05809b0 314 - The scheduler did not send a printer-state-message
315 attribute if the string was empty; it now always sends
316 this attribute. This caused the printer message to be
317 displayed for other printers in the web interface.
04e01993 318 - The LPD backend now supports a "manual_copies" option,
319 e.g.: "lpd://server/queue?manual_copies=no", in order
320 to handle copies for raw jobs to printers that don't
321 implement the LPD protocol properly...
a05e4307 322 - The "mirror" option was not being handled by the
323 PostScript or image filters.
f7696015 324 - Updated the cupsaddsmb command to support the new CUPS
325 driver for Windows NT/2k/XP.
de659667 326 - Filter status lines longer than 1023 characters could
327 cause the scheduler to get into an infinite loop.
aa25b9e1 328 - The scheduler didn't reset the job state to pending
329 when modifying an active printer.
6ed689f8 330 - Now limit the maximum number of recursion steps when
331 searching for a filter for a job, in case a user
332 defines a circular filter rule.
333 - The PostScript filter would embed an invalid
334 requirements comment in some cases.
56e9c951 335 - Added support for embedded job tickets in PostScript
336 files.
5ca43bfd 337 - The PostScript filter now detects EPS files and should
338 better handle printing EPS files.
5ae53c1e 339 - The cancel command now ignores a trailing destination
340 name when cancelling a specific job ID (Solaris
341 compatibility).
879062a9 342 - The scheduler now rejects jobs with copies outside the
da956953 343 range of 1 to MaxCopies, inclusive.
344 - Added new MaxCopies directive to set the maximum
345 number of copies that a user can request.
879062a9 346 - The scheduler didn't block signals while it processed
347 others and when it forked processes.
5ae53c1e 348 - The scheduler checked for new jobs to print when
349 stopping a job. This caused jobs to restart before a
350 shutdown.
098f80c5 351 - Updated the CUPS startup script to better support
352 different timezones and to support the RedHat/Mandrake
353 init script functions, if available.
e426d516 354 - The scheduler did not properly handle backslashes in
355 banner files; it incorrectly assumed that "\c" should
356 always be replaced by "c", instead of only looking for
357 "\{" and replacing it by "{".
90ca6406 358 - The texttops filter didn't handle prettyprint=no.
359 - The text and HP-GL/2 filters didn't check for other
360 common duplex option names like cupsMarkOptions() did.
c56db294 361 - "lpoptions -x printer" no longer clears the "default
362 printer" status of the printer.
3f1897d4 363 - cupsTempFd() now stops trying to create a temporary
364 file after 1000 tries, and aborts on any error other
365 than EEXIST. This should prevent lp/lpr hangs due to
366 a bad or missing temporary directory.
5a3ef28d 367 - The lpadmin command did not send the right URI to the
368 scheduler when setting options on classes. This
369 caused a client-error-bad-request error.
e354b6e3 370 - The CUPS API convenience functions would attempt to
371 connect to the remote server name in a
372 "printer@server" printer name instead of dealing with
373 the default (usually local) server. Aside from
374 causing user confusion, the remote server name might
375 not be resolved properly, causing further problems.
f2320e2d 376 - "lp -q" would cause the "lp" command to segfault, as
377 the program would try to print the option letter that
378 caused the error using the wrong index into the
379 command-line; bugfix from Debian.
f2ffec40 380 - Fixed a minor inconsistancy in the encoding of boolean
381 attributes from printer options in
382 cupsEncodeOptions().
42ede8a2 383 - Added a FilterNice directive which sets the priority
384 of job filter processes that are run by the scheduler.
93704f20 385 - Added Solaris x86 USB printer support.
34f927d3 386 - The USB backend now reports both the ulpt and unlpt
387 devices under *BSD.
78ab59ae 388 - The "lpstat -o" command would truncate the
389 "printer-jobid" string if it was longer than 21
390 characters.
391 - The PJL-based MIME type rules now look in the first
392 1024 bytes instead of just the first 512 bytes to find
393 the language mode.
394 - The image file types are now listed explicitly in the
395 mime.convs file so that additional image file formats
396 do not use the standard CUPS image filters by default.
397 - Updated the Software Programmers Manual to include
398 all of the CUPS API functions.
cefea041 399 - ppdOpen*() no longer sorts choices for an option.
ce691c0f 400 - The web interface now enforces constraints in PPD
401 files when configuring a printer.
3733593d 402 - When stopping a printer, the scheduler didn't set the
403 printer state before stopping the current job.
a56289b6 404 - The cupsaddsmb utility now lists all data files for
405 Win9x and WinMe clients when installing that Windows
406 driver.
997cf8b0 407 - Jobs submitted to a class now bounce immediately to
408 the next available printer rather than waiting until
409 that printer is available.
410 - Filters and backends now also get the CLASS
411 environment variable set when a job is printed to a
412 printer class instead of a normal printer.
413 - Added French translations of the web interface, CUPS
414 Overview, Software Administrators Manual, and Software
415 Users Manual contributed by Marian REYT-LLABRES.
6b7de82f 416 - Added several "hint" messages for common configuration
417 problems that are stored in the error_log file.
418 - httpSeparate() now unquotes %xx characters in the
419 username:password field of a URI.
5fe35f41 420 - When starting the scheduler in daemon mode, the parent
421 process now waits for the child to signal it is ready
422 to accept connections.
423 - Added -F option to cupsd to run cupsd in the
424 foreground but detach from the controlling terminal
425 and current directory.
426 - The scheduler did not reload jobs when receiving a HUP
427 signal; this would cause problems since the pointers
428 into the file type database would no longer be valid
429 for existing jobs.
430 - The scheduler did not save the network interface list
431 update time, thus no caching of the network data was
432 actually provided.
433 - Updated the SuSE PAM configuration file.
9ba7fc54 434 - The LPD backend now supports a "reserve" option and no
435 longer reserves a priviledged port by default.
bdfe4c00 436 - The cupsaddsmb command now continues past printers
437 that do not have a PPD file to export.
19f699df 438 - The lpstat command didn't treat printer names as
439 case-insensitive.
440 - The lpstat command now reports the printer location
441 attribute with "lpstat -l -p".
c5488f2f 442 - Fixed a bug in the vsnprintf() emulation function,
443 which was used on old versions of HP-UX, IRIX, and
444 Solaris.
b91c8a76 445 - The number-up option was incorrectly being used when
446 printing banner pages.
4f759211 447 - Added support for Greek and Slovak PPD files.
aa37e40e 448 - CUPS now supports printer names containing any
449 printable character, e.g. "123-abc", "foo-bar", etc.
d958c5cf 450 - The null filter was not supported in mime.convs due to
451 a bug in the filter validation code.
3a74d6bf 452 - Changes in the default printer and printer attributes
453 were not always reflected in the generated printcap
454 file.
8ce19460 455 - Implicit classes did not inherit the location or
456 description from member printers.
fabb006b 457 - The httpGetHostByName() function did not handle
458 hostnames that started with a number.
1f1822fd 459 - Updated the filters to use the %cupsRotation comment
904eef76 460 instead of %%Orientation to auto-rotate pages, since
461 the use of %%Orientation is inconsistent.
d9e72533 462 - Added the RootCertDuration directive to control how
463 often the root authentication certificate is updated.
375a0ad5 464 - Increased the size of the IPP write buffer to 32k to
465 allow for larger attribute values and to provide more
466 efficient output of large numbers of attributes.
7ed5d5f2 467 - The polling daemon now retries the initial connection
468 to the remote server; this fixes a problem when the
469 remote server is unavailable when the scheduler starts
470 up...
19e7b382 471 - The scheduler didn't validate Digest users against the
472 system group(s), so Digest and BasicDigest
473 authentication didn't work for administration
474 operations.
103abc03 475 - The scheduler now passes the SHLIB_PATH environment
476 variable to child processes (HP-UX shared libraries)
06415a96 477 - The scheduler now maps accesses from the loopback
478 interface to "localhost".
479 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon sent a status code byte in
480 response to queue state commands, but those commands
481 only return textual data.
482
483
7680b71d 484CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.15-1
485
486 - The lpc and lprm sources didn't include the CUPS
487 string function header, which is required on systems
488 that don't have their own snprintf() function.
489 - The French manpage Makefile tried to install the
490 language subdirectories when it (obviously) didn't
491 have to.
492
493
74cfdb8b 494CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.15
495
dab1a4d8 496 - Updated the CUPS license agreement for the new MacOS
497 license exception.
611e4623 498 - The printer-info attribute now defaults to the printer
499 name if no value has been set.
52900e4c 500 - ppdOpen() and friends now add an "Auto" InputSlot
501 option if none is provided to automatically select the
502 correct tray.
ed6078a4 503 - Updated the ppdEmit() and ppdEmitFd() functions to
504 (re)mark the correct PageSize or PageRegion option
505 depending on the selected ManualFeed or InputSlot
506 options.
507 - ppdEmitFd() didn't handle custom page sizes.
508 - Darwin uses <pam/pam_appl.h> instead of
509 <security/pam_appl.h>.
fba7409c 510 - The jobs.cgi web interface now handles all job
511 operations, allowing the administrator to allow "job
512 administrators" or operators to manage jobs (but not
513 queues) on the server.
514 - The cupsDoFileRequest() function now checks if the
515 filename passed into the function is a directory, and
516 returns the IPP_NOT_POSSIBLE error if so.
517 - New SCSI printer backend.
a594463b 518 - Cleaned up handling of locales with trailing character
519 set definitions.
a319615f 520 - Fixed handling of invalid PPD attributes inside
521 OpenUI/CloseUI.
b92c5a4f 522 - Fixed a problem with SSL and the job, printer, and
523 admin CGIs on ports other than 443.
b47f3ce5 524 - The scheduler didn't handle AuthClass properly.
e6fc9c68 525 - Added French translation of man pages.
a8ee4682 526 - Updated the text filter to support the const_cast,
527 dynamic_cast, and static_cast keywords in ISO C++.
def978d5 528 - Now use strlcat() and strlcpy() (or emulation
529 functions) for easier string/buffer protection.
7b40ae49 530 - The auto-generated printcap/printers.conf files now
531 have a small comment header explaining where the file
532 comes from...
6df23e27 533 - The PostScript filter now supports 6, 9, and 16-up
ed6078a4 534 output, as well as new page-border and
6df23e27 535 number-up-layout options.
415199da 536 - The lpoptions command didn't set options properly when
537 using the default printer.
538 - Added ConfigFilePerm and LogFilePerm directives.
539 - Increased maximum size of MIME types to IPP_MAX_NAME
540 to allow for longer printer names.
541 - No longer create remote printers when loading job
542 history data.
543 - The printer-make-and-model attribute wasn't set when
544 the PPD file didn't contain a NickName attribute.
545 - Now handle PPD files with translation strings longer
546 than 80 bytes - they are truncated if they go over...
c47e97cc 547 - The scheduler didn't handle signals until after it
548 loaded the configuration files the first time; this
549 caused problems on some installations that would
550 restart the scheduler as the system booted into run
551 level 3.
552 - Now throttle broadcasts like we do for polling.
0203af93 553 - Fixed a bug in the reading of PPD files using CR's
554 instead of CR LF's or LF's.
151718ce 555 - The scheduler would crash if cupsd.conf contained a
556 BrowseProtocols line with no protocols listed.
b05e8e24 557 - The HTML job operation templates now link back to the
558 destination printer or class.
69d74c4b 559 - The serial backend now detects USB serial devices.
238bae16 560 - The LPD mini-daemon (cups-lpd) now passes the
561 job-originating-host-name attribute to the scheduler
562 (cupsd).
a4e23897 563 - Updated the IPP backend to reconnect after downgrading
564 from IPP/1.1 to 1.0, and when sending requests to HP
565 JetDirect interfaces that don't support HTTP
566 Keep-Alive like they should.
1cf29e95 567 - Now pass NLSPATH and DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH environment
568 variables, if defined, to CGI and job processes.
569 - Removed the pstoraster filter (based on GNU
570 Ghostscript 5.50) and now provide the raster "driver"
571 and patch file necessary to use the current GNU
572 Ghostscript 7.05 release.
573 - Removed unnecessary fonts and updated the Courier and
574 Symbol fonts to the latest versions to better support
575 non-ISOLatin1 text.
576 - The text filter now always embeds the Courier and
577 Symbol fonts to ensure that they contain the full set
578 of glyphs.
576b82ca 579 - The lp and lpr commands now only override the SIGINT
580 handler if it is not being ignored (patch from Robert
581 Ambrose for some interactive software that catches
582 SIGINT and will gracefully cancel the print...)
350807be 583 - The PostScript image filter (imagetops) now supports
584 printing CMYK images using the CMYK colorspace.
585 - The image filters now support CMYK JPEG files, and
586 correctly handles the inverted files from Photoshop
587 (which seems to save RGBW data, not CMYK...)
e3bf38b3 588 - Added a "check" target to the top-level makefile to
589 conform with GNU standards (same as "test").
746265a5 590 - The IPP code didn't always map the POSIX locale "C" to
591 the proper IPP language code.
32f78676 592 - The cupsaddsmb program was updated to use the
593 setdriver command instead of addprinter.
934ef66d 594 - Banner pages were not handled properly for implicit
595 classes.
7200e26c 596 - When tunneling to a remote system using SSH, the
597 printer URIs for local printers on the remote system
598 did not reflect the correct port number.
d7a9de63 599 - The Allow, Deny, BrowseAllow, BrowseDeny, and
600 BrowseAddress directives now support the network
601 interface names "@LOCAL" and "@IF(name)" for access
602 control and browsing based on the current interface
603 addresses instead of fixed names or IP addresses.
2a55786c 604 - The texttops filter did not properly recognize the
605 "nowrap" (wrap=false) option.
83575f2d 606 - The InstallableOptions group name in a PPD file is now
607 translated separately (CUPS_MSG_OPTIONS_INSTALLED) so
608 that UIs can accurately detect the presence of this
609 group.
f4647930 610 - The scheduler no longer keeps job history data for
611 remote printers on the client (just on the server.)
4c2096b8 612 - The parallel and USB backends now retry if the backend
613 detects that the printer is not connected to the
614 system (rather than stopping the queue...)
615 - The network backends now retry if the backend detects
616 that the printer is not connected to the network or is
617 unreachable (rather than stopping the queue...)
c672a858 618 - The cupsGetDests() function no longer lists options
619 and instances for printers that no longer exist.
31e65f97 620 - The scheduler now converts the document language to
621 the correct LANG string.
8c47c4b4 622 - The cupsaddsmb program now supports alternative CUPS
623 and SAMBA server names.
40a0e1d1 624 - The PostScript filter now supports the Orientation
625 comment and rotates the page as needed automatically.
f915b00f 626 - Revamped the makefiles slightly to use automatically
627 generated dependencies.
628 - Build fixes for OS X.
a1028786 629 - The TIFF reading code depended on the newest version
630 of libtiff; now conditionally compile that portion of
631 the loader.
bbc1bfe5 632 - The PPD code now decodes all JCL options in the
633 JCLSetup group, not just those options that start with
634 the prefix "JCL".
267cf96a 635 - The backends now read print data using the read()
636 system call to ensure that the current page is printed
637 while the next page is being processed.
2f7be6ff 638 - The pdftops filter did not support shading type 3
639 (radial fill) for the "sh" operator.
dab1a4d8 640 - The cups-polld program now throttles the local
641 broadcasts of polled printers and classes so that the
642 local system is not overwhelmed with hundreds of
643 printers and classes all at once.
644 - Updated the serial backend to support 230,400 baud for
645 the Linux PPC port.
59168282 646 - The cupsGetJobs() function wouldn't report completed
647 jobs that did not have a document-format attribute
648 value.
1c9c423b 649 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function now maintains a table
650 of known boolean and numeric options, and encodes all
651 other options as strings.
f918a565 652 - Now add a newline before the end-of-page code in the
653 PostScript filter; this fixes a problem with files
654 that don't end with a newline.
a28d12c5 655 - The image filters looked for the "orientation" option
656 instead of the correctly named "orientation-requested"
657 option.
74cfdb8b 658 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function now handles mixed
659 integers and ranges.
660 - New translation guide for developers to provide native
661 language support for CUPS.
662
663
ee8b7dd3 664CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.14
665
843779ef 666 - The ippRead() function did not verify that the
ba31b514 667 attribute name length or string with language value
668 was not larger than the read buffer.
e2943c5f 669 - The scheduler set the signal handlers before loading
670 the configuration files the first time; this prevented
671 the RunAsUser directive from blocking server reloads.
5fd84fcc 672 - Added Swedish message catalog.
0e1f4bec 673 - The parallel backend now recognizes the /dev/printers
674 device directory under Linux 2.4.x.
ba31b514 675 - MacOS X fixes.
676 - The cupsaddsmb utility sent the server name after the
677 user information when executing the rpcclient program.
678 This caused problems with some versions of SAMBA
679 2.2.x.
ee8b7dd3 680 - The IPP backend did not pass the requesting user name
681 when checking on the print job status. This prevented
682 it from waiting for the job to complete when
683 communicating with some IPP implementations that
684 require it.
685
686
d2503e02 687CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.13
688
28a96fe2 689 - The lpstat command did not report jobs submitted to
690 regular printer classes.
0f74081c 691 - The texttops filter didn't use sufficient precision
692 when positioning text with some values of cpi and lpi.
693 This could cause the alignment of text to stray.
0ffae44c 694 - cupsGetDests() didn't merge the options from the
695 /etc/cups/lpoptions file with ~/.lpoptions - options
696 in ~/.lpoptions overrode them completely.
697 - Added support for KOI8-R and KOI8-U character sets,
698 and added several Russian message catalogs.
bd726d0d 699 - The scheduler put the wrong timezone offset in the log
700 files (e.g. +0500 instead of -0500 for EST...)
701 - The scheduler did not ignore trailing whitespace in
702 *.convs files.
db911fcb 703 - The scheduler now forces all processes to exit (kill
704 -9) when it is stopped. This prevents parallel and
705 USB devices from running in the background after cupsd
706 goes away.
7c587866 707 - The cupsParseOptions() function didn't skip trailing
708 whitespace after quoted values.
c3026ddc 709 - More changes to support CUPS on OS/2.
24e80caf 710 - Added Simplified Chinese message catalog.
9495ba14 711 - Added PAM support for IRIX.
c6e1ca5d 712 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't remove the @server
713 portion of the printer name, and since it would
714 connect immediately to the remote server instead of
715 the local server, the printer would not be found.
8b8cca8e 716 - Classification and page labels were not rotated to
717 match the page orientation.
9ae34eb7 718 - Now set the TCP "no delay" option on network
719 connections to improve performance/response time.
720 - Improved the IRIX printing tools support with patches
721 from Andrea Suatoni.
722 - Added a new PrintcapGUI directive to specify the GUI
723 option panel program to use for the IRIX printing
724 tools support.
725 - The cupsGetDests() function did not check to see if a
726 user-defined default printer (set via lpoptions) still
727 existed.
728 - The pstops filter no longer assumes that the default
729 dictionary is writable when doing N-up processing.
bbfcd9c7 730 - The pstops filter now supports printing N-up with the
731 page-set option.
873a6f43 732 - The imagetoraster filter now supports direct printing
733 of CMYK image data without conversion/correction.
d1c2727f 734 - The IPP backend now reports printer state/error
735 conditions when possible (toner low, media empty,
736 etc.)
bd73c81f 737 - The lpstat command now supports the (undocumented)
738 IRIX -l option ("-lprintername") for a compact job
739 listing for a printer.
740 - The lpstat command now includes printer date/time
741 information in the output (always Jan 01 00:00) to
742 make third-party tools happy.
18843e59 743 - The text filter now supports non-integer cpi and lpi
744 values.
dd5f3453 745 - The Margins field in the CUPS raster header was not
746 initialized by the pstoraster filter.
9aa1f763 747 - Added --with-optim="flags" option to configure script.
748 - Updated the Italian message translations.
749 - Updated the cups.list file to install the correct
750 files.
751 - The pstoraster filter accessed the third element of a
752 2 element array.
5f46b7d1 753 - The scheduler did not setup a status pipe for polling
754 processes, so error messages went to whatever file
755 descriptor 2 was pointing to when they were started.
5fb5dab7 756 - The httpMD5Final() function didn't put a colon between
757 the password and nonce strings.
c5de57af 758 - The pstops filter did not default to Binary data for
759 "%%BeginData:".
4a7e6692 760 - The pstops filter did not stop processing when a line
761 containing a CTRL-D is seen.
aba2fa7e 762 - The scheduler no longer replaces the JobSheets values
763 from the printers.conf and classes.conf files with the
764 classification level, if set. This way the original
765 banner settings are preserved when classification
766 levels are changed or turned off.
8d5eb22e 767 - The serial backend didn't drain the output queue, nor
768 did it restore the original settings.
d2503e02 769 - Updated the default system group under MacOS X.
770 - If no SystemGroup was defined in cupsd.conf, the
771 system default group was not used.
772 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now supports LPD clients that
773 send multiple control files.
774 - httpConnectEncrypt() now always uses encryption for
775 connections on port 443, since port 443 is reserved
776 for the "https" scheme.
777 - Group authentication via certificates did not work
778 from the web interface for accounts other than
779 "root".
780 - The serial port backend did not clear the OPOST
781 option, which could cause problems with some printers.
782 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon didn't lookup the client IP
783 address properly.
784 - The parallel backend now identifies the polled and
785 interrupt-driven devices under *BSD.
786 - The scheduler allowed the "always" encryption mode
787 inside a Location, which is not valid.
788 - The CUPS startup script now checks for the timezone
789 information under Linux.
790 - Now also map the sides attribute to the JCLDuplex
791 option (if present) in PPD files.
792 - Updated pdftops to Xpdf 0.93a.
793 - Added support for MD5 passwords under Slackware.
794 - Added new AuthType BasicDigest that does Basic
795 authentication using the MD5 password file managed by
796 the lppasswd command.
797 - The banner page attribute substitution code now
798 retains {name} sequences in banner files when the
799 named attribute is undefined. Use {?name} to
800 conditionally substitute an IPP attribute.
801 - The scheduler now ensures that the ServerRoot
802 directory and configuration files are owned by and
803 writable by the User and Group in cupsd.conf.
804 - The USB backend now lists all USB printer devices
805 regardless of whether a printer is connected or not.
806 This allows new USB printers to be connected without
807 restarting cupsd.
808 - Added some more minor performance tweeks to the IPP
809 protocol code to reduce copying and array indexing.
810 - The cupsaddsmb utility now uses the -c option with
811 smbclient and rpcclient to avoid the read length limit
812 for commands on the standard input.
813 - Added an include file to the CRD handling code in
814 pstoraster so that it would compile properly on 64-bit
815 pointer platforms...
816
817
818CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.12
819
820 - Added "Polish" to the list of known languages for PPD
821 files.
822 - Added missing directory definition to cups-config.
823 - The CUPS-Move-Job operation did not set the
824 destination type for the new destination.
825 - The CUPS-Add-Printer operation did not support the
826 allow=all or deny=none values to clear the per-user
827 printer ACLs.
828 - The SetPrinterAttrs() function did not handle invalid
829 PPD files that were missing the required NickName
830 attribute. It now looks for NickName, ModelName, and
831 then substitutes the string "Bad PPD File" for the
832 printer-make-and-model attribute.
833
834
835CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.11
836
837 - Added support for embedded TrueType fonts in PDF
838 files.
839 - Added support for PostScript functions in PDF
840 files.
841 - Added new "cupsaddsmb" utility for exporting
842 CUPS printer drivers to SAMBA/Windows clients.
843 - Added preliminary support for Darwin/MacOS X.
844 - The CUPS-Add-Printer operation no longer allows
845 arbitrary scheme names in device URIs to be used - it
846 now restricts the available schemes to those found in
847 the device list (lpinfo -m).
848 - The ippRead() and ipp_read_file() functions could not
849 handle more than IPP_MAX_VALUES (100) values in a
850 1setOf attribute. These functions have been updated
851 to dynamically allocate more memory as needed, and the
852 IPP_MAX_VALUES constant now represents the allocation
853 increment. [this caused some versions of the
854 GIMP-print drivers to fail since the number of media
855 options exceeded 100...]
856 - The scheduler could crash when BrowseShortNames
857 was set to "No".
858 - The scheduler did not prevent MaxClients from being
859 set to 0, which could cause the scheduler to go in an
860 infinite loop when accepting a request.
861 - Made some performance optimizations in the ippRead()
862 functions to make IPP request/response processing
863 faster.
864 - The accept/reject/enable/disable command did not
865 support properly support the "-h" or default
866 server name.
867 - The scheduler did not save the quota configuration
868 when the job-quota-period attribute was set to 0.
869 - The LPDEST and PRINTER environment variables did not
870 support printer instances.
871 - The text filter now handles more types of boldface and
872 underline formatting.
873 - The cupsTempFd() function did not fail if the
874 temporary directory did not exist; this would cause it
875 to loop indefinitely instead of returning an error
876 (-1).
877 - Stopping (disabling) a printer class did not stop jobs
878 from printing to printers in that class.
879 - The cupsGetDests() function was sending the
880 requested-attributes attribute as a name instead of a
881 keyword; this caused a serious performance problem on
882 slower systems since more information had to be
883 transferred from server to client.
884 - The web interfaces did not always quote < and & in
885 things like the job title. This had the potential for
886 browser-based security violations (on the browser's
887 machine); bug report from SuSE.
888 - The scheduler now treats unauthenticated usernames as
889 case-insensitive when doing quota and allow/deny
890 processing.
891 - The lp command sent the "request ID is ..." message
892 to stderr instead of stdout...
893 - The PostScript filter (pstops) now handles EPS files,
894 adding a showpage command to the files as needed.
895 - The configure script checked for the <stdlib.h> header
896 file before the JPEG libraries; since the JPEG headers
897 can define HAVE_STDLIB_H, the configure check would
898 cause the JPEG check to fail on some systems.
899 - The scheduler now supports localized banner files,
900 using the subdirectory approach, e.g. the "es"
901 subdirectory under /usr/share/cups/banners is used for
902 the Spanish banner files.
903 - Updated the scheduler so it knows the correct
904 language abbreviation to use for all supported
905 PPD LanguageVersion values. The new code also
906 supports country codes as well, so "English-GB"
907 maps to the "en_GB" locale.
908 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon did not support
909 anonymous printing (no username specified).
910 While the username is REQUIRED by RFC-1179,
911 MacOS clients do not send the REQUIRED username
912 information when printing via LPD.
913 - Added many warning and informational messages
914 to cups-lpd where they were missing.
915 - Added Czech message file contributed by SuSE.
916 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now returns a non-zero
917 status if an invalid destination or job ID is
918 provided.
919 - The scheduler did not honor the KeepAlive setting in
920 cupsd.conf.
921 - Increased the size of the file read/write buffers to
922 32k.
923 - *BSD static library creation fixes.
924 - Use mkstemps() instead of tmpnam() in pdftops whenever
925 possible.
926 - Added httpGetHostByName() function as a wrapper around
927 gethostbyname() - some implementations of this
928 function do not support IP addresses (e.g. MacOS X.)
929 - Added casts to all printf's of file lengths, since
930 there is currently no standard way of formatting long
931 long values.
932 - The client filename field was not cleared in all
933 instances, resulting in old form data being submitted
934 to CGIs.
935 - The httpConnect*() functions now try all available
936 addresses for a host when connecting for the first
937 time.
938 - The pstoraster filter would "lose" all drawing
939 commands when the PageSize was set but the printer
940 bitmap was not reallocated. This was most noticeable
941 with the output from StarOffice 6 beta and would
942 result in a blank page being output...
943 - The IPP backend was sending a PAGE comment even when
944 printing the output from a filter (it should only send
945 page comments when printing files directly...)
946 - The pdftops filter didn't properly map glyph names of
947 embedded Asian TrueType fonts.
948 - Changed the CUPS startup script to look for a program
949 named "cupsd", not just any program with "cupsd" in
950 the name (this caused the apcupsd UPS monitoring
951 daemon to be stopped/restarted...)
952 - The CUPS-Move-Job operation did not change the
953 internal destination name for held jobs, so moved (but
954 held) jobs would still show up as queued on the
955 original destination.
956 - The cups-polld program didn't send the
957 requested-attributes attribute in the
958 CUPS-Get-Printers and CUPS-Get-Classes requests, which
959 made it use more CPU and bandwidth than required.
960 - The scheduler and CUPS API incorrectly added a
961 job-sheets-default attribute for remote printers. This
962 caused banner pages to be omitted from client system
963 prints.
964
965
966CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.10-1
967
968 - Minor fixes to the filter, systemv, and template
969 makefiles to install files properly.
970
971
972CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.10
973
974 - Added a driver for DYMO label printers.
975 - Added new ClassifyOverride directive to allow users
976 to override the classification of individual jobs.
977 - Added new BrowseProtocols directive to control which
978 browse protocols are used (currently CUPS and SLP).
979 - Added SLPv2 support (thanks to Matt Peterson for
980 contributing the initial implementation for CUPS.)
981 - Adding a raw printer on a remote CUPS server now
982 correctly redirects PPD file requests to the remote
983 server.
984 - The serial backend now limits writes to 1/10th
985 second worth of data to avoid buffer overflows
986 with some types of flow control.
987 - The scheduler did not properly process PUT requests,
988 so configuration files could not be uploaded to the
989 server.
990 - The scheduler did not strip trailing whitespace on
991 lines in the configuration files.
992 - The httpWrite() function did not transition the PUT
993 request to the HTTP_STATUS state to get the status
994 from the server.
995 - The scheduler did not properly handle trailing null
996 ("-") filters when testing a driver that sent data
997 to the file: pseudo-backend.
998 - The IPP backend now only sends a document-format of
999 "application/vnd.cups-raw" when printing to another
1000 CUPS server using a local printer driver or interface
1001 script. Previously the job's document format was
1002 used, which was incorrect.
1003 - The lpadmin command didn't use the ppd-name attribute
1004 with the -m option; this prevented the use of the
1005 "raw" model from the command-line.
1006 - The pstoraster filter output draft (1-bit) 6-color
1007 output in the wrong order; this resulted in yellow
1008 being printed instead of black on Stylus Photo
1009 printers.
1010 - The pdftops filter did not have the Japanese and
1011 Chinese text support compiled into it.
1012 - The IPP and AppSocket backends did not clear the
1013 "waiting for print job to complete" status message,
1014 which caused some confusion... :)
1015 - The serial backend now opens the port in "no delay"
1016 mode to avoid DCD detection problems with some OS's.
1017
1018
1019CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.9-1
1020
1021 - The configure script did not substitute the
1022 correct user and group names.
1023 - The configure script did not use the full path
1024 to the install-sh script when it was used.
1025 - The pstoraster filter did not correctly support
1026 DuplexTumble mode for printers that used flip
1027 duplexing.
1028 - The cups.list.in file was missing from the
1029 distribution.
1030 - The New DeskJet series driver did not use the
1031 correct OrderDependency for the Duplex option.
1032 - Use read() instead of fread() to read piped
1033 print files in lpr/lp. This avoids a bug in the
1034 HP-UX 10.20 fread() function.
1035 - Updated the pstoraster filter to use the MIPS_FIXADE
1036 system call under IRIX to fix bus error problems on
1037 R12000 processors (Ghostscript is not 64-bit clean...)
1038 - Some Xerox PPD files (most notably the Phaser 790)
1039 have illegal whitespace in the option keyword in the
1040 OpenUI line. This caused the PageRegion option to not
1041 be recognized properly for the Phaser 790.
1042
1043
1044CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.9
1045
1046 - Revamped the configure script to use a modular
1047 approach for the various tests.
1048 - Added --with-openssl-* options to properly reference
1049 the OpenSSL libraries in DSOs.
1050 - Added --with-cups-user and --with-cups-group
1051 options to specify the default user and group for
1052 CUPS.
1053 - Added AIX shared library support.
1054 - Added AIX device discovery for the serial and
1055 parallel ports.
1056 - Now use install program or script to install
1057 directories, files, and symlinks.
1058 - Updated pstops filter to use strict handling of EPS
1059 files embedded in a PostScript document. The %%EOF
1060 handling in 1.1.8 caused some dvips files not to
1061 print.
1062 - Fixed yet another memory allocation bug in pstoraster
1063 that would cause it to crash. This fix also ensures
1064 that all memory allocations are done on (at least) a
1065 64-bit boundary.
1066 - Fixed Digest authentication - httpGetSubField() didn't
1067 skip the Digest keyword.
1068 - The scheduler did not properly handle Digest
1069 authentication with the new multiple-group support.
1070 - The scheduler did not allow usernames that were
1071 not in the UNIX password file to be used for Digest
1072 authentication from passwd.md5.
1073 - The scheduler could not scan PPD files that only used
1074 a carriage return (i.e. MacOS PPD files); the new code
1075 is also about 40% faster, so servers with thousands of
1076 PPD files should start much faster now.
1077 - The scheduler now stores the PPD file size and
1078 modification times in the ppds.dat file, so it can now
1079 incrementally update the PPD database from the model
1080 directory, resulting in significantly faster startup
1081 times.
1082 - The lpinfo command did not return a non-zero status
1083 code if an error occurred.
1084 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler's UpdateJob() function.
1085 Basically, all jobs shared the same status buffer, and
1086 the "buffer start" pointer could point to 1 byte
1087 before the beginning of the buffer. The new
1088 implementation uses a separate buffer for each job and
1089 eliminates the buffer start bug.
1090 - The IPP backend would send N copies of a document if
1091 the receiving device didn't support the copies
1092 attribute, even if the upstream driver already added
1093 the necessary commands to generate the copies. This
1094 was most noticeable with HP printers where N * N
1095 copies would come out instead of N.
1096 - The PostScript filter (pstops) did not properly handle
1097 duplex printing on inkjet printers that provide this
1098 option. Copies would be put on the front and back
1099 sides of the duplexed page, and the filter did not
1100 output an even number of pages.
1101 - The backends always caught SIGTERM after they
1102 connected to the printer. This prevented raw jobs
1103 from being cancelled early.
1104 - The cupsSetDests() function now removes any printers,
1105 instances, and options that are not defined by the
1106 user or server. This should prevent old system-wide
1107 options from being used in individual user accounts.
1108 - Updated the EPSON printer driver and added PPDs for
1109 the newer EPSON Stylus printers that only support the
1110 "ESC i" graphics command.
1111 - The lpadmin command didn't allow you to add remote
1112 printers to a local class.
1113 - The lpadmin command didn't allow you to set the
1114 options (quotas, etc.) for a class.
1115 - The scheduler did not load or save the
1116 job-sheets-default attribute for classes.
1117 - The scheduler did not automatically recreate remote
1118 printers that were part of a class.
1119 - It was possible for a printer class to list the same
1120 printer more than once.
1121 - The scheduler now makes a backup copy of classes.conf
1122 and printers.conf before writing the new file.
1123 - The lppasswd program incorrectly asked for a new
1124 password when deleting an existing MD5 password
1125 account.
1126 - The scheduler did not match "/printers/name.ppd"
1127 against a location of "/printers/name".
1128 - The client code did not always handle HTTP encryption
1129 upgrades properly.
1130 - The client code now caches the last Digest password so
1131 it can retry using a new resource path or nonce value,
1132 which are included in the MD5 sum sent to the server.
1133 This should eliminate unnecessary password prompts
1134 when using Digest authentication.
1135 - The lppasswd command didn't have a man page.
1136 - Updated the PJL detection rules to allow the universal
1137 escape to occur anywhere in the first 128 bytes of the
1138 file.
1139 - The cups-polld program would poll servers continuously
1140 with no delay if there was an error contacting the
1141 server.
1142 - The IPP backend would send an empty job-name or
1143 requesting-user-name attribute if the corresponding
1144 job attribute was an empty string. While this is
1145 allowed by the IPP specification, some HP JetDirect
1146 implementations return a client-error-bad-request
1147 error if an empty name attribute value is received.
1148 The new code only sends these attributes if they are
1149 not the empty string.
1150 - At least some versions of the HP JetDirect firmware
1151 do not correctly implement IPP. Added additional
1152 checks to the IPP backend to eliminate extra,
1153 unsupported attributes which should normally be
1154 ignored by a compliant IPP device.
1155 - The scheduler did not copy the complete list of
1156 supported file types into the
1157 document-format-supported attribute. This caused
1158 clients to not send the local file type (such as
1159 application/vnd.cups-raw for raw print files) and the
1160 corresponding bad output in some cases.
1161 - The scheduler did not fully copy attributes from a
1162 set-job-attributes request - string attributes were
1163 only referenced, which could cause cupsd to crash
1164 or behave irratically.
1165 - The lp command didn't send the right value for the
1166 job-hold-until attribute when "-H resume" was
1167 specified.
1168 - The IPP backend now returns as soon as a job is
1169 completed or reported as "pending-held".
1170 - Added new ImplicitAnyClasses and HideImplicitMembers
1171 directives to the cupsd.conf file to make implicit
1172 classes more usable/transparent to the user.
1173 - Clients can now (with the appropriate authentication)
1174 retrieve and update the server configuration files
1175 using HTTP GET and PUT requests.
1176 - The web interface didn't allow you to modify the
1177 location or description of the printer.
1178 - The pdftops filter now uses its own temporary file
1179 function to work with PDF files using LZW compression
1180 (which use the uncompress program or gunzip)
1181 - The SystemGroup directive now supports specification of
1182 multiple groups.
1183 - Added new Include directive to cupsd.conf, a la
1184 Apache.
1185 - Added new pseudo-driver/PPD called "raw" that can be
1186 used to create/convert a raw queue. This also allows
1187 raw queues to be created in the web interface.
1188 - The pdftops filter didn't handle image objects that
1189 used JPEG and Flate compression together.
1190 - The pstops filter counted pages wrong when using the
1191 N-up and even/odd printing options. This prevented
1192 the page-ranges option from working properly.
1193 - Added another fix to pstoraster for a bus error
1194 condition caused by a lack of parenthesis in the
1195 Ghostscript code.
1196 - Added new "natural-scaling" option which scales the
1197 natural size of the image (percent of natural image
1198 size instead of percent of page size.)
1199 - The lppasswd program is now setuid to the CUPS user
1200 instead of root.
1201 - The PPD functions did not allow for PPD files that
1202 defined the page sizes and margins before the page
1203 size options.
1204 - The mime.types file now checks for the PJL "LANGUAGE =
1205 Postscript" command for PostScript files.
1206 - The scheduler did not truncate file: output files.
1207 - The PPD file reading code did not handle options with
1208 raw quotes (") in the human-readable names.
1209 - The pdftops filter now remaps the space character when
1210 (bad) PDF files contain a .notdef glyph for the space
1211 character.
1212
1213
1214CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.8
1215
1216 - Updated spec file to generate separate cups-pstoraster
1217 package for pstoraster.
1218 - The spec file wasn't setting LOGDIR in the install.
1219 - The scheduler might restart a stopped printer after
1220 stopping a print job. Thanks to Florent
1221 Guiliani for finding this bug!
1222 - The init script showed run level 0 for the Red Hat
1223 chkconfig program. This is incorrect because Red Hat
1224 doesn't use run level 0 for shutdown scripts.
1225 - The IPP backend did not handle the
1226 client-error-not-found error when checking the status
1227 of the job that was sent. This caused remote queues
1228 to stop on client machines when the server had job
1229 history disabled.
1230 - Added httpConnectEncrypt() function to avoid
1231 performance penalty for setting up encrypted
1232 connections initially.
1233 - Use httpConnectEncrypt() in all client apps and in the
1234 CUPS API to ensure consistent usage of encryption
1235 throughout.
1236 - Jobs weren't queued to remote classes (fix from
1237 Richard Begg.)
1238 - AIX changes from Richard Begg.
1239 - Fixed the pstops fix for GNOME output - no longer use
1240 the page numbers in the %%Page: comment since GNOME
1241 puts a filename instead (!?@!#?!). There is still an
1242 issue with N-up printing since GNOME defines its fonts
1243 in the first page instead of the document setup section
1244 (pages must be independent according to the DSC spec)
1245 People with GNOME printing problems should consult bug
1246 #54489...
1247 - The imagetops filter produced PAGE: messages when
1248 generating PostScript for a non-PostScript printer
1249 (only affects page-label and Classification
1250 options.)
1251 - The updated pdftops filter was looking for an options
1252 file called xpdf.conf instead of pdftops.conf.
1253
1254
1255CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.7
1256
1257 - Configuration script changes, including new
1258 "--with-docdir=/dir" option to relocate CUPS
1259 documentation and web content according to your
1260 favorite version of the FHS.
1261 - Documentation updates for encryption, SLP, etc.
1262 - New Software Test Plan and automated test script to
1263 test CUPS prior to installation.
1264 - All scheduler configuration files are now case
1265 insensitive to match Apache.
8372ad6b 1266 - Added support for Apache ListenBackLog, Require,
1267 Satisfy, <Limit>, <LimitExcept>, and LimitRequestSize
d2503e02 1268 directives.
1269 - Added support for all Apache log levels...
1270 - Added support for "double" HostNameLookups.
1271 - Added new "RunAsUser" directive to support non-root
1272 configurations on the standard (priviledged) ports.
1273 - Added support for non-root invocation of the lpd
1274 backend (does no reserve a priviledged port, which
1275 might not work with some LPD servers...)
1276 - Added new PrintcapFormat directive to control the
1277 output format of the printcap file (BSD or Solaris
1278 formats are supported at present.)
1279 - The CUPS directory service routines now handle
1280 ECONNREFUSED errors gracefully rather than shutting
1281 all browsing off.
1282 - ippErrorString() now returns the recommended error
1283 messages from the IPP/1.1 Model and Semantics
1284 document.
1285 - Fixed a minor IPP compliance issue with responses
1286 to requests without the attributes-charset or
1287 attributes-natural-language attributes.
1288 - Sun fix: need httpFlush() call for chunked IPP
1289 requests in cupsDoFileRequest().
1290 - httpConnect() now looks up "localhost" by name and
1291 by address (127.0.0.1) for users the go to the
1292 trouble of removing the required localhost entry
1293 in /etc/hosts or on their DNS server...
1294 - Added support for Linux 2.4.x devfs parallel port
1295 filenames (/dev/parallel/N).
1296 - cupsDo[File]Request() and cupsGetPPD() no longer
1297 block trying to reconnect to a crashed or inaccessable
1298 server.
1299 - Added new ppdEmitJCL() function to better handle
1300 PJL commands from PPD files.
1301 - A bug in UpdateJob() would cause the scheduler to
1302 consume 100% CPU until another request was submitted.
1303 - The cancel command did not support the "-" option to
1304 cancel all jobs on all printers.
1305 - The cancel and lprm commands did not support cancelling
1306 the next/current job in the queue.
1307 - The pdftops and pstoraster filters were using unsafe
1308 temporary file functions; while this is not a problem
1309 in normal configurations (the CUPS temporary directory
1310 is restricted), they now use the cupsTempFd() function.
1311 - The mime.types file was missing the recognition rule
1312 for Sun Raster images.
1313 - The admin CGI was passing a printer make string to
1314 ippSetCGIVars() that was being replaced in that
1315 function.
1316 - "lpoptions -l" would resave the options...
1317 - The EPSON drivers now send the "end packet mode"
1318 command when printing to USB devices.
1319 - The scheduler initialized certificates before loading
1320 the cupsd.conf file.
1321 - The scheduler used /dev/random to collect random data,
1322 which could block if insufficient entropy information
1323 had been collected by the kernel. Now use
1324 /dev/urandom.
1325 - Fixed a bug in the whitespace skipping code in
1326 httpGetSubField().
1327 - The LPD backend now supports a new "order" option:
1328 "lpd://server/queue?order=control,data" (default) and
1329 "lpd://server/queue?order=data,control".
1330 - The scheduler enforced a 30 second timeout on all
1331 clients regardless of the Timeout directive and if a
1332 CGI was currently running.
1333 - cupsParseOptions() now sets boolean options to
1334 option=true or option=false.
1335 - The "percent complete" calculations in the LPD backend
1336 could overflow on large files, causing the percentage
1337 to wrap to 0 every 40MB or so.
1338 - Fixed a memory reallocation bug in pstoraster that
1339 could cause it to crash.
1340 - The LPD backend now sanitizes the job title to avoid
1341 potential problems on remote LPD servers.
1342 - The lp command did not send the requesting-user-name
1343 attribute when altering a job.
1344 - The pstops filter did not handle PostScript files with
1345 lines longer than 8191 bytes.
1346 - The scheduler no longer uses inet_addr() to convert IP
1347 addresses in dot format (mmm.nnn.ooo.ppp) to the
1348 32-bit format, since it will not work for IPv6
1349 addresses.
1350 - New "Classification" directive to force labeling of
1351 the current classification on each page.
1352 - New "page-label" attribute to add per-page labels
1353 ("For Official Use Only", "Draft", etc.)
1354 - The scheduler now sets the HTTPS environment variable
1355 for CGI programs when a client connects using
1356 encryption.
1357 - Fixed a recursion bug in the scheduler that could
1358 cause cupsd to crash when a printer was removed.
1359 - The LPDEST and PRINTER environment variables didn't
1360 support instances.
1361 - Dropped the "file" backend from the device list that
1362 is reported, since it is only available for *testing*
1363 and should never be used in a production environment.
1364 The file: device can still be used, but it won't show
1365 up in the list of devices from lpinfo or the web
1366 interface.
1367 - Added support for /dev/lpa# parallel ports under *BSD.
1368 - Added META variables to the CGI header template to
1369 prevent caching of the results.
1370 - Fixed an unaligned memory buffer for the pstoraster
1371 clist states; this caused bus errors for some
1372 combinations of printers, drivers, and options.
1373 - Re-added black reduction for colorful colors; this
1374 helps to prevent dark colors from getting desaturated.
1375 (only used when converting RGB to CMYK)
1376 - Added two new directives - MaxJobsPerPrinter and
1377 MaxJobsPerUser - to allow an administrator to set
1378 the maximum number of pending jobs in a queue or
1379 submitted by a user.
1380 - The scheduler no longer stops a printer if it can't
1381 create the status pipe or run the filters or backend.
1382 This will allow heavily loaded servers to service
1383 clients or start print jobs as the load allows.
1384 - Fixed a bug in the Set-Job-Attributes code that could
1385 crash the scheduler (patch from Martin Zielinski)
1386 - cupsSetDests() did not quote option values with
1387 embedded spaces.
1388 - Added support for the Enable-Printer and
1389 Disable-Printer extension operations (same as
1390 CUPS-Accept-Jobs and CUPS-Reject-Jobs.)
1391 - The AppSocket and IPP backends now wait for the print
1392 job to be finished before exiting; this should prevent
1393 the loss of print jobs with older JetDirect firmware
1394 and make consecutive print jobs print faster.
1395 - The BMP loading code did not handle resolution values
1396 of 0. This is a problem with BMP image files produced
1397 by the GIMP.
1398 - The HTTP Upgrade code (upgrade to TLS encryption)
1399 bypassed the authentication checks.
1400 - The HTTP Upgrade code did not send a 426 status code
1401 to the client and end the current request. This caused
1402 a race condition between the client and server for the
1403 upgrade to TLS.
1404 - Fixed a bug in the EOF and Trailer detection code in
1405 the pstops filter.
1406 - The imagetoraster filter did not add the margins to
1407 the custom page size in the raster header.
1408 - The imagetops filter did not adjust the custom page
1409 size to the size of the printed image.
1410 - The imagetops filter did not include DSC comments
1411 which are required by some printers.
1412 - The imagetops filter did not insert newlines in
1413 Base85 encoded output, causing files to contain
1414 lines longer than 255 characters (violation of the
1415 DSC).
1416 - Added support for the DeskJet 900 series duplexer
1417 and CRET color modes in the HP driver.
1418 - Added support for PPD-defined margins in the HP
1419 driver.
1420 - Fixed the debugging output from pstoraster - the
1421 font list was not terminated by a newline.
1422 - Some versions of the HP-UX pam_unix authentication
1423 module apparently do not pass the appdata_ptr argument
1424 to the conversation function, preventing the scheduler
1425 from authenticating users using PAM under HP-UX. A
1426 workaround using a static variable has been added to
1427 address this problem.
1428 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler SortPrinters() function
1429 that could cause printers to disappear or the
1430 scheduler to crash when adding a printer.
1431 - Changed the pstops filter to not do per-page filtering
1432 if the file does not conform to at least version 3.0
1433 of the document structuring conventions. This seems
1434 to "fix" printing with broken apps.
1435 - The image filters did not handle older TIFF files that
1436 lacked the samples-per-pixel and bits-per-pixel tags.
1437 - Added new cupsGetJobs() and cupsFreeJobs() functions
1438 to manage print jobs.
1439 - cupsEncodeOptions() would encode names of 0 length and
1440 cupsAddOption() and cupsParseOptions() would add names
1441 of 0 length.
1442 - The scheduler might block waiting for status messages
1443 after starting a new print job. Thanks to Florent
1444 Guiliani for finding this bug!
1445
1446
1447CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-3
1448
1449 - The configure script put the JPEG library before the
1450 TIFF library; this caused problems in some
1451 configurations since the TIFF library also supports
1452 JPEG compression of TIFF images.
1453 - Updated the configure script and makefiles to handle
1454 admin man pages with the "1m" extension (HP-UX, IRIX,
1455 Solaris, Tru64) and in odd directories (IRIX)
1456 - The updated cupsTempFile() function did not return
1457 the filename when called with a filename buffer of
1458 NULL (previously it used a static buffer.)
1459 - FreeBSD uses /dev/unlptN, but NetBSD and OpenBSD use
1460 /dev/ulptN.
1461 - DeletePrinter() didn't remove the printer from any
1462 classes it was a member of.
1463 - DeletePrinterFromClass() didn't preserve the
1464 implicit status of a class.
1465 - DeletePrinterFromClasses() didn't remove printers
1466 from implicit classes.
1467 - StartJob() didn't send the job-sheets, job-priority,
1468 and job-hold-until attributes to remote printers.
1469 - LoadAllJobs() was looking for job-sheets-completed
1470 instead of job-media-sheets-completed. This would
1471 prevent accumulation of page data after a restart
1472 of the scheduler.
1473 - The pstops and imagetops filters now generate copies
1474 using the appropriate method for a Level 1, 2, or 3
1475 printer since some Level 2/3 printers don't support
1476 the /#copies variable anymore.
1477 - The man page for cups-lpd did not mention the "-o"
1478 option.
1479 - The IPP backend didn't handle version-not-supported
1480 errors and revert to IPP/1.0 (previously it only checked
1481 for a bad-request error)
1482 - Caldera fix: lpc now reports unimplemented commands as
1483 unimplemented, not invalid.
1484 - Caldera fix: lpq didn't recognize BSD lpq "-a" option.
1485 - Caldera fix: lpr didn't recognize BSD lpr "-1", "-2",
1486 "-3", "-4", "-q", or "-U" options.
1487 - RedHat fixes: patches to GNU Ghostscript
1488 - SuSE fix: temp file creation patch to GNU Ghostscript
1489 (pstoraster).
1490 - SuSE fix: remove cgi-bin/abort.c and cgi-bin/email.c,
1491 which are not used.
1492 - SuSE fix: missing NULL check in cgi_initialize_post().
1493 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in
1494 cgi_initialize_string().
1495 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in
1496 ippSetCGIVars()
1497 - SuSE fix: more NULL checks in ppdOpen(); also make
1498 sure that all memory is freed on error to avoid memory
1499 leaks.
1500 - SuSE fix: Exit from child if setgid() or setuid()
1501 fails.
1502 - SuSE fix: Added setgroups() calls after setgid() and
1503 setuid() calls.
1504 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in httpEncode64()
1505 calls.
1506 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in httpSeparate()
1507 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in ippWrite() for
1508 bad input.
1509 - SuSE fix: potential nul skip in ppd_decode() for
1510 missing hex digits.
1511
1512
1513CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-2
1514
1515 - Added changes to support NetBSD startup scripts.
1516 - Added separate compiler options for pstoraster
1517 (Ghostscript) to avoid compiler-induced errors
1518 from Ghostscript's twisted code.
1519 - The mime.types file contained syntax errors.
1520 - Updated the *BSD USB device filenames to use
1521 the /dev/unlptN files so that the USB device
1522 is not reset prior to printing (causes print
1523 corruption on many printers)
1524 - Added new cupsTempFd() function to avoid serious
1525 security bug in glibc fopen() function. The glibc
1526 fopen() function unlinks a file before creating it,
1527 which opens up possible symlink attacks.
1528 - Now reject 0-length names in add-printer and add-class
1529 requests.
1530 - Fix for pstoraster when ZLIB is not available.
1531 - cupsGetPPD() didn't reconnect when a HTTP connection
1532 was lost.
1533 - SuSE fix: httpConnect() didn't check that the
1534 value from gethostbyname() was a valid IPv4 address.
1535 - SuSE fix: httpConnect() didn't allow file descriptor 0
1536 to be used for a socket.
1537 - SuSE fix: ippRead() didn't confirm that all values in
1538 a set were numeric or string types.
1539 - SuSE fix: lppasswd race condition fixes.
1540 - SuSE fix: directive names could overflow buffer when
1541 reading *.conf files.
1542 - SuSE fix: HEAD requests for PPD files did not use the
1543 same logic as GET requests.
1544 - SuSE fix: possible buffer overflow when adding
1545 /index.html to requested directory name.
1546 - SuSE fix: possible buffer overflow when converting
1547 IPP attributes to string options for filters.
1548 - SuSE fix: creating file: device output with mode 0666
1549 instead of mode 0600.
1550 - SuSE fix: creating job info files with mode 0640
1551 instead of 0600.
1552 - SuSE fix: don't rely on snprintf() for including
1553 system name in log filenames.
1554 - SuSE fix: add bounds checking when copying quoted
1555 and hex strings.
1556
1557
1558CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-1
1559
1560 - Added configure check for getting the correct
1561 strftime() format string; %c is not Y2k safe,
1562 and %KC and NULL are not universally supported.
1563
1564
1565CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6
1566
1567 - Fixed another possible DoS attack in httpGets()
1568 - Added check for "LANGUAGE = PCL" and "LANGUAGE =
1569 POSTSCRIPT" in mime.types.
1570 - Resolution options were not being passed into the
1571 filter programs properly.
1572 - The default compiler options for GCC no longer include
1573 "-g3", which apparently is deprecated in newer
1574 versions of GCC.
1575 - CheckJobs() could cause cupsd to crash if a job is
1576 cancelled in StartJob().
1577 - The printers.conf and classes.conf files are now
1578 written with restricted permissions.
1579 - The round-robin algorithm used by FindAvailablePrinter()
1580 had problems; fixes contributed by Joel Fredrikson.
1581 - If LoadAllJobs() is unable to determine the file type
1582 of a print job, assume "application/vnd.cups-raw".
1583 - The web interface now provides a job_printer_name
1584 value for any corresponding job_printer_uri value.
1585 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now logs the client address
1586 and hostname as well as all commands and errors in the
1587 syslog file.
1588 - The IPP backend now detects the supported file formats
1589 and only specifies the document format if it is
1590 supported. This makes IPP printing to network print
1591 servers and cards more reliable without affecting the
1592 capabilities of CUPS servers.
1593 - The time_at_xyz attributes are now converted to human-
1594 readable dates and times for the web interfaces.
1595 - The HP and EPSON sample drivers now correctly catch
1596 signals and eject the current page when a job is
1597 cancelled.
1598 - Fixed bug in CGI code - did not ignore control
1599 characters (e.g. newlines) in form data. This caused
1600 sporatic web interface problems.
1601 - The file type logging code in the scheduler referenced
1602 the optional document-format attribute; the new code
1603 uses the resolved MIME type instead.
1604 - The client.conf parsing code now removes trailing
1605 whitespace.
1606 - The MaxJobs directive was being treated as a boolean
1607 instead of an integer.
1608 - The scheduler would not timeout remote printers if
1609 BrowseInterval was set to 0.
1610 - The lpadmin command now supports setting of options
1611 and user-level access control.
1612 - Added "-E" option to all printing commands to force
1613 encryption.
1614 - The client code did not consume the response to the
1615 OPTIONS request when switching to secure mode.
1616 - The scheduler did not output a Content-Length field
1617 when responding to an OPTIONS request.
1618 - Added documentation on using cups-lpd with xinetd
1619 to the man page.
1620 - The socket backend now starts retries at 5 seconds and
1621 increases the interval to 30 seconds. This should
1622 provide faster printing when multiple jobs/files are
1623 queued for a printer.
1624 - The filters and backends no longer buffer output to
1625 stderr. This should provide much more accurate status
1626 reporting.
1627
1628
1629CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5-2
1630
1631 - Fixed configure check for OpenSSL to work with RSA
1632 code.
1633 - Added configure check for <sys/ioctl.h>, and use this
1634 check in backend/serial.c.
1635 - Updated configure script handling of data,
1636 configuration, and state directories to use datadir,
1637 sysconfdir, and localstatedir variables.
1638 - NetBSD uses different serial port filenames than
1639 FreeBSD and OpenBSD.
1640 - The pdftops filter didn't need some X-specific files.
1641 - The scheduler makefile doesn't do a chown anymore when
1642 installing (cupsd did this automatically on startup
1643 anyways)
1644
1645
1646CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5-1
1647
1648 - There was a typo in the top-level Makefile
1649 - The top-level Makefile did not install an init script
1650 for run level 5.
1651 - The configure script did not add the "crypto" library
1652 when checking for the OpenSSL library.
1653 - The OKIDATA PPD files were missing.
1654 - The config.h.in file defined the wrong version number.
1655 - The serial backend did not define "funky_hex" under *BSD.
1656 - Updated the Visual C++ project files and some of the
1657 CUPS API sources to compile under Windows again.
1658
1659
1660CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5
1661
1662 - Security updates - new default configuration does
1663 not broadcast printer information and only allows
1664 access from the local system.
1665 - EXPERIMENTAL encryption support - CUPS now optionally
1666 supports TLS/SSL encryption via the OpenSSL library.
1667 - Documentation updates.
1668 - Makefile/configure script updates.
1669 - The RPM spec file didn't work out-of-the-box under
1670 RedHat or Mandrake.
1671 - Minor code cleanup to remove extraneous compiler
1672 warnings.
1673 - cupsTempFile() was using %p for the temporary
1674 filename; this should have been %08x (just 8 digit
1675 hex)
1676 - Deleting a printer with active print jobs would still
1677 crash the server.
1678 - ippWrite() and ipp_write_file() didn't send the
1679 correct value length for name-with-language and
1680 text-with-language attributes.
1681 - Updated IPP code to support copied strings (that
1682 should not be freed); this provides slightly more
1683 efficient IPP server performance.
1684 - Updated PDF filter to Xpdf 0.91.
1685 - httpGets() could go into an infinite loop if a line
1686 longer than the input buffer size was sent by a
1687 client. This could be used in a Denial-of-Service
1688 attack.
1689 - The lpstat and CUPS API functions now request only the
1690 data required when getting the list of printer or
1691 class information. This should improve performance
1692 with large numbers of printers on slower machines.
1693 - The scheduler was always enforcing the FilterLimit,
1694 even if FilterLimit was set to 0.
1695 - Updated the Linux USB backend to support Mandrake's
1696 /dev/usb/usblp# filenames.
1697 - The PRINTER and LPDEST environment variables did not
1698 override the lpoptions default printer.
1699 - The PPD read functions incorrectly included trailing
1700 characters (usually whitespace) after quoted string
1701 attributes.
1702 - The multiple-document-handling attribute handling code
1703 did not check for the correct value for collated
1704 copies (separate-documents-uncollated-copies).
1705 - The EPSON driver did not work with OKIDATA printers in
1706 EPSON emulation mode (needed change-emulation command)
1707 - The HP-GL/2 filter did not scale the plot properly in
1708 scale mode 2.
1709 - Added PPD files for 9-pin and 24-pin OKIDATA printers.
1710 - The httpSeparate() function didn't handle passwords
1711 that started with a number.
1712 - ippDelete() could free the character set string
1713 multiple times in name-with-language and
1714 text-with-language attributes.
1715 - The scheduler would access freed memory right after
1716 freeing it (for debug messages); these parts of the
1717 code have been reordered to avoid this situation
1718 which was causing sporatic errors and crashes.
1719 - The ppdClose() function didn't free all of the strings
1720 in the ppd_file_t structure.
1721 - The LoadAllJobs() function in the scheduler did not
1722 close the spool directory.
1723 - Changed all sprintf's that use string formats to
1724 snprintf's, even if the destination buffer is
1725 larger than the source string(s); this protects
1726 against buffer overflows caused outside of CUPS...
1727 - Changed all strcpy's to strncpy's between local and
1728 global variables, even if the destination buffer is
1729 larger than the source string; this protects
1730 against buffer overflows caused outside of CUPS...
1731 - The CUPS certificate functions didn't use the
1732 CUPS_SERVERROOT environment variable when set.
1733 - The directory services code was copying instead of
1734 comparing the remote printer info, resulting in
1735 unnecessary updates of the printer attributes for
1736 remote printers.
1737 - Added new mime.types rules to allow automatic raw
1738 printing of PCL and ESC/P files; PJL headers are
1739 parsed to differentiate between PostScript and
1740 PCL job files. This should eliminate a lot of
1741 the reports of SAMBA printing problems due to
1742 the missing "-oraw" or "-l" options.
1743 - The mimeLoadType() function didn't handle the
1744 3-argument contains() function.
1745 - The LoadPPDs() function in the scheduler didn't
1746 properly set the alloc_ppds variable or handle a PPD
1747 database containing 0 printers.
1748 - The scheduler FindAvailablePrinter() function didn't
1749 use the same queuing logic as the CheckJobs()
1750 function. This caused classes to stall if a remote
1751 printer was always busy.
1752 - Jobs are now assigned to printers in a class
1753 round-robin style. This should prevent the first
1754 server in the class from bearing the brunt of the
1755 jobs.
1756 - The scheduler's LoadAllJobs() function didn't always
1757 restore remote printers for queued jobs on startup.
1758 - The serial backend didn't support the higher baud
1759 rates with the old termios interface. It now supports
1760 57600 and 115200 baud.
1761 - The serial backend now supports different types of
1762 flow control; previously it ignored the flow=XYZ
1763 option in the device URI.
1764 - The serial backend now supports DTR/DSR flow control,
1765 which is popular on dot-matrix printers (access with
1766 "flow=dtrdsr" in the device URI)
1767 - Added new job-originating-host-name attribute for
1768 jobs. The new attribute provides the hostname or
1769 IP address of the machine that submitted the job.
1770 - The set-job-attributes code no longer allows read-only
1771 job attributes to be changed.
1772 - Expanded the click area for the navigation bar in the
1773 web interface.
1774 - Updated the lp and cancel commands to support all of
1775 the Solaris print options (some are simply ignored
1776 since they do not map)
1777 - Updated the scheduler to limit the number of file
1778 descriptors to the maximum select() set size. This
1779 was causing problems on Solaris systems where the
1780 max FD count was increased beyond 1024.
1781 - The scheduler's LoadDevices() function was getting
1782 interrupted by the SIGCHLD signal handler; now ignore
1783 child signals while loading devices.
1784 - Added quota and allow/deny user support for printers
1785 and classes.
1786 - Removed black/CMY adjustment code from the PS and
1787 image file RIPs; it was interfering with some CUPS
1788 driver dithering code.
1789 - The lpc program stopped listing the queue statuses
1790 after the first active printer.
1791 - The cups-lpd program used an output format that the
1792 Solaris printing system did not understand.
1793 - Updated the lpq program to use the Solaris format
1794 except under Tru64 UNIX.
1795 - Some DEC PPD files incorrectly use "Off" for the null
1796 value in UI constraints. Added "Off" to the list of
1797 accepted null values.
1798 - Changed the *BSD define constants to __*BSD__ in all
1799 of the backends.
1800 - Added support for "lpstat printername", which is an
1801 undocumented feature in Solaris.
1802 - The HP-GL/2 filter now only sets the plot size if it
1803 is set in the plot file.
1804 - The lpmove command wasn't sending the requesting
1805 user name, causing it to always fail.
1806 - Updated the cupsTempFile() code to use GetTempPath()
1807 under Windows.
1808 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon didn't limit the number of
1809 data files accepted, didn't use cupsTempFile(),
1810 didn't handle control file job information in any
1811 order, and didn't free job options after printing
1812 a file.
1813 - The scheduler copy_banner() function did not
1814 explicitly set the owner and permissions of the banner
1815 files, which could prevent the banner pages from
1816 printing on some systems.
1817 - The lpstat program wasn't listing remote classes.
1818 - The scheduler did not verify that the printer-uri
1819 attribute was specified in all requests that required
1820 it.
1821
1822
1823CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.4
1824
1825 - Makefile and configure script fixes.
1826 - **** Changed the default Printcap setting **** to
1827 /etc/printcap. There are just too many people asking
1828 why application XYZ doesn't see their printers!
1829 - The web admin interface now displays an error if it
1830 can't get the list of printer drivers from cupsd.
1831 - The IPP backend was putting the copies option before
1832 the other job options were set. This caused the IPP
1833 request to contain attribute groups in the wrong
1834 order, which prevented remote printing.
1835 - Added checks in scheduler to free memory used for
1836 IPP requests and language information when closing
1837 a client connection.
1838 - Fixed the duplex option in the HP LaserJet driver. It
1839 should now work with all LaserJet printers (and
1840 compatibles)
1841 - The add-printer web interface didn't initialize the
1842 "old info" data pointer, which caused random crashes
1843 on many OS's.
1844 - Fixed many page sizes defined in the Level 1
1845 compatibility file "gs_statd.ps" to match reality.
1846 - Fixed another bug in the setpagedevice "code" in
1847 Ghostscript. It should now accept all standard
1848 Adobe attributes on all platforms.
1849 - Fixed pstoraster so that it reallocates memory for
1850 color depth changes as well as size/resolution
1851 changes. This removes an ordering constraint on
1852 the color, page size, and resolution options in
1853 PPD files.
1854 - The IPP backend didn't use the job's character set
1855 when the destination printer supported it. This
1856 caused problems when printing text files to other
1857 CUPS servers.
1858 - Updated the logic used to determine when to rebuild
1859 the PPD file database. The scheduler now checks the
1860 dates and the number of PPD files (was just checking
1861 the dates.)
1862 - Updated the ippSetCGIVars() function (used by the
1863 web interfaces) to only filter valid string values.
1864 - The PostScript filter was scaling 2-up pages
1865 incorrectly. This caused the edges of some pages to
1866 be clipped.
1867
1868
1869CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.3
1870
1871 - Makefile fixes.
1872 - RPM spec file changes.
1873 - Documentation updates.
1874 - Enabled pstoraster debug messages for everything
1875 (only logged when LogLevel set to "debug"...)
1876 - Changed the Input/OutputAttributes fix in
1877 pstoraster so that it works on all platforms.
1878 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't set the right green
1879 color value in encoded polylines or text.
1880 - Updated the "fitplot" code to handle plot sizes
1881 specified as "PSwidth,length" and "PSlength,width".
1882 - Updated the Linux parallel and USB backends to open
1883 the device files prior to looking in /proc for
1884 autoprobe info. This makes sure that loadable device
1885 driver modules are in fact loaded...
1886 - Added new FilterLimit directive to limit the number
1887 of processing jobs/filters on a system.
1888 - set-job-attributes didn't change the job-state to
1889 held/pending when the job-hold-until attribute was
1890 specified.
1891 - set-job-attributes didn't save the new job attributes.
1892 - Now change the "requesting-user-name" attribute in
1893 requests from remote systems to "remroot" when an
1894 unauthenticated "root" user is sent. This can be
1895 changed using the new RemoteRoot directive in
1896 cupsd.conf.
1897 - The cancel-job, hold-job, release-job, and restart-job
1898 operations didn't log the authenticated username.
1899 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now checks for a
1900 document-format option before forcing raw mode with
1901 filter mode 'l'.
1902 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now supports "-o" options
1903 on the command-line (passed by inetd) to set global
1904 defaults for all print queues.
1905 - The pstops filter assumed that a file with a Trailer
1906 comment would also have an EOF comment.
1907 - Added new cupsSetPasswordCB(), cupsSetServer(),
1908 cupsSetUser(), and ippSetPort() functions to better
1909 support client applications (especially GUIs...)
1910 - The CUPS-add-class and CUPS-add-printer operations
1911 didn't reset the printer-name attribute on remote
1912 print queues that had to be renamed when a local
1913 printer was defined with the same name.
1914 - The lpoptions command now supports a "-r" option to
1915 remove options for a printer or instance.
1916 - The lpadmin and admin.cgi programs no longer allow
1917 class and printer names to begin with a number; this
1918 caused the command-line utilities to become confused.
1919 - The Linux USB backend now looks for both the parallel
1920 and usblp driver names in the device list.
1921 - Added a new FontPath directive to cupsd.conf, and also
1922 a "--with-fontpath" option for the configure script to
1923 specify alternate font paths for pstoraster.
1924 - The CUPS-move-job operation didn't update the
1925 job-printer-uri attribute.
1926 - The scheduler only looked up printers and classes by
1927 name in IPP requests, instead of using the full URI.
1928 This caused problems with KUPS and friends with
1929 remote printers.
1930 - The scheduler now handles better localization of
1931 hostnames (e.g. server is host.foo.com, remote is
1932 host.subfoo.foo.com, localized is not host.subfoo...)
1933 - The scheduler logging functions now use a common
1934 log file checking/rotation function (courtesy of
1935 Crutcher Dunnavant at Red Hat)
1936 - The scheduler could accept more client connections
1937 than it allocated for if more than one Port or Listen
1938 line was present in cupsd.conf.
1939 - Other minor scheduler performance tweeks.
1940 - The lpq and lprm commands didn't support the default
1941 printer set using lpoptions.
1942 - The lpoptions command now supports a "-l" option to
1943 list the printer-specific options and their current
1944 settings.
1945 - The web printer and class lists now show a link to the
1946 default printer or class at the top of the page.
1947 - The text filter now supports pretty printing of shell
1948 and perl scripts as well as C/C++ source files.
1949 - The top and bottom margins were reversed for landscape
1950 text printing.
1951 - The lpq and lprm commands didn't understand printer
1952 instances.
1953 - The scheduler only selected on the first 100 file
1954 descriptors instead of the maximum file descriptor
1955 limit.
1956 - The scheduler client, listener, and mainline functions
1957 now share code to disable and enable monitoring for
1958 new client connections.
1959 - The imagetoraster filter didn't support all of the
1960 required pagedevice parameters.
1961 - The serial backend now checks for 100 serial ports
1962 under Linux.
1963 - The scheduler used sscanf() to pull out the remote
1964 printer location, description, and make/model strings,
1965 but if any of these options was empty then sscanf()
1966 would stop processing.
1967 - Added "debug2" log level to provide a little less
1968 verbose debugging information at the "debug" level.
1969 - The scheduler would crash if you stopped a printer
1970 that was currently printing a job.
1971 - The scheduler incorrectly allowed jobs in the cancelled,
1972 aborted, or completed state to be cancelled.
1973 - The image filters did not load TIFF images properly
1974 for bottom-to-top and right-to-left orientations.
1975 - Added new cupsEncodeOptions() function to encode
1976 CUPS options as IPP job attributes.
1977 - The IPP backend, LPD mini-daemon, client commands,
1978 and CUPS API did not properly encode multiple
1979 option values separated by commas.
1980 - Added new scheduler malloc logging in debug mode
1981 (provides summary of total arena size, allocated,
1982 and free bytes once a minute)
1983 - The EPM-based distributions didn't install the
1984 correct symlinks for a few man pages.
1985 - Fixed a memory leak in the scheduler - wasn't
1986 freeing old filters when deleting or renaming
1987 printers.
1988 - The scheduler now queries the primary IP address
1989 for the name of the server and maps any incoming
1990 requests from that address to the server name.
1991 This fixes web admin mapping problems from
1992 server.domain.com to localhost.
1993 - The web printer modify interface now remembers
1994 the previous device and driver settings (except
1995 for serial ports.)
1996 - The job-k-octets attribute is now stored as part of
1997 the job attributes; this preserves the information
1998 after a job is completed when job file history is
1999 turned off.
2000 - Dropped option sub-group parsing code for the moment,
2001 since many Xerox PPD files abuse this feature in PPD
2002 files and don't follow the hierarchy rules.
2003 - Added new wrapper code around options so that duplex
2004 options for some HP printers don't prevent prints.
2005 - Added support for Digital UNIX/Tru64 UNIX/OSF/1 format
2006 for "lpstat -v" output.
2007 - Now show the URI for remote printers instead of
2008 /dev/null in "lpstat -v" output.
2009 - Creating classes and adding printers to a class with
2010 the lpadmin command didn't work.
2011 - The banner pages and test page should now format
2012 correctly in both portrait and landscape orientations.
2013 - Updated banner page substitution so that { can appear
2014 by itself without quoting.
2015
2016
2017CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.2
2018
2019 - Makefile/configure fixes
2020 - RPM spec file and EPM list file fixes
2021 - The cupsTempFile() function now uses a different
2022 algorithm for generating temp files and "reserves"
2023 them to avoid possible security exploitation.
2024 - Now use /dev/random (if available) to seed the random
2025 number generator for certificates.
2026 - The /var/spool/cups and /var/spool/cups/tmp directories
2027 were incorrectly owned by root; they are now owned by
2028 the filter user, typically "lp".
2029 - The scheduler now resets the permissions on the spool
2030 and temp directories as needed to match the filter
2031 user.
2032 - Now expose ppdCollect() as an externally callable
2033 function.
2034 - The image filters now support filtering from the
2035 standard input.
2036 - The imagetoraster filter now collects all printer
2037 options and job patch files and applies them to the
2038 page header as needed.
2039 - Added format and banner options to LPD backend.
2040 - The send-document operation didn't start a job
2041 immediately when last-document was true.
2042 - The set-job-attributes operation didn't correctly
2043 replace the current job-hold-until value.
2044 - Removed the option wrapper code from ppdEmit() and
2045 friends since it caused problems with Ghostscript
2046 and many PS printers.
2047 - Was setting TZ environment variable twice for job
2048 filters.
2049 - Added syslog logging in cups-lpd to aide in
2050 debugging problems.
2051 - The HP-UX parallel port backend did not list the
2052 available parallel ports on some systems (printf
2053 calling problem...)
2054 - The lp and lpr commands overrode user options if
2055 -d/-P were specified after -o.
2056 - The scheduler would crash with a */* filter.
2057 - Added support for a "default" filter for unknown file
2058 types. The example provided in the mime.types and
2059 mime.convs file prints unknown files as if "-oraw" was
2060 specified for the job. This functionality is disabled
2061 by default.
2062 - The "compatibility" mode fix for older backends did not
2063 work for smbspool. Added a workaround for it.
2064 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't perform the right pen scaling
2065 with some files and the "fitplot" option.
2066 - New Software Performance Specification document that
2067 describes the memory, disk, and CPU usage of all the
2068 CUPS software.
2069
2070
2071CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.1
2072
2073 - The pstoraster Makefile still referenced one of the
2074 old PDF filter files.
2075 - The filter Makefile used INSTALL_DATA instead of
2076 INSTALL_LIB to install the CUPS image library.
2077 - The administration CGI didn't work properly with
2078 network devices.
2079 - The BrowseACL variable was not updated after the
2080 cupsd.conf file was loaded.
2081 - The lpd mini-daemon didn't support printer instances.
2082 - Now use a default umask of 077 for child processes.
2083 - Now put temp files in /var/spool/cups/tmp for child
2084 processes and the root user, unless TMPDIR or TempDir
2085 is defined otherwise.
2086 - cupsGetPPD() no longer uses easy-to-guess filenames.
2087 - The CUPS-Delete-Class and CUPS-Delete-Printer
2088 operations now save classes.conf file as needed.
2089 - The lppasswd command wouldn't add a user.
2090 - The ppdOpen() function could cause a segfault if a
2091 0-length PPD file was read.
2092 - The image filters were not handling images with
2093 different X and Y resolutions properly.
2094 - The imagetoraster filter defaulted to RGB output
2095 instead of black output like pstoraster.
2096 - The pstops filter didn't handle binary data properly.
2097 - The pstops filter didn't handle copies properly for
2098 PS files lacking DSC comments.
2099 - The pstops filter now appends %%EOF to the end of
2100 documents if they don't have it.
2101 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't work with remote
2102 printers lacking the @server in the name.
2103 - The configure script didn't work right when only
2104 --prefix was specified.
2105 - The ppdEmit() code now wraps all printer commands so
2106 that buggy PostScript printers will still print a file
2107 after receiving an option that isn't available.
2108 - Fixed the DeskJet margin bug, and disabled 600dpi
2109 color mode until it can be fixed.
2110 - The cupsAddDest() function didn't sort instances
2111 correctly in all cases.
2112 - The time-at-xyz attributes now expand to the date and
2113 time in banner files.
2114
2115

2117
2118 - Documentation updates.
2119 - Configuration script updates.
2120 - Didn't map charset and language value strings to lowercase
2121 and _ to - as required by SLP and IPP.
2122 - ppdLoadXYZ() didn't add the list of available fonts to the
2123 ppd_file_t structure.
2124 - The text filter common code was freeing the PPD file data
2125 before it was used.
2126 - The text filter now embeds missing fonts.
2127 - The CGI interface now maps local access to the server to
2128 the localhost address.
2129 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't use the specified (or default)
2130 color ranges, resulting in strange colors.
2131 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't default to no input window, which
2132 caused unnecessary clipping of plots.
2133 - Integrated Xpdf's pdftops filter into CUPS, which is a
2134 lightweight and reliable replacement for Ghostscript's
2135 PDF support.
2136 - Removed all PDF support from Ghostscript.
2137 - Updated HP driver to set top margin; this seems to fix
2138 the offset problem seen on HP DeskJet printers.
2139 - Fixed dependencies on the ZLIB and JPEG libraries in
2140 pstoraster.
2141 - The lpr command wasn't using the lpoptions defined by
2142 the user.
2143 - The lpr command would segfault if the CUPS server was
2144 not running.
2145 - The top-level makefile was not installing the CUPS
2146 initialization script. It now does so if it sees there
2147 is an init.d directory in /sbin, /etc/rc.d, or /etc.
2148 - "lpstat -v all" didn't work.
2149 - pstoraster would crash on some platforms doing the
2150 setpagedevice operator.
2151 - The web administration interface now allows you to set
2152 the default banner pages.
2153 - Images can now be positioned on the page using the new
2154 "position" option.
2155 - The AccessLog, ErrorLog, and PageLog directives now
2156 support "%s" to insert the server name.
2157 - Added a new BrowseShortNames directive to allow for
2158 short remote printer names ("printer" instead of
2159 "printer@server") when possible.
2160 - The scheduler could crash if given an invalid PPD file
2161 with no PageSize attributes.
2162 - Updated the serial, parallel, and usb backends to do
2163 multiple writes and ignore ioctl() errors as needed;
2164 this should fix problems with serial printing on old
2165 serial drivers and with the UltraSPARC parallel port
2166 driver under Solaris 2.7.
2167 - Now propagate LD_LIBRARY_PATH to child processes from
2168 cupsd.
2169 - New DataDir directive for installing in alternate
2170 locations.
2171 - New CUPS_SERVERROOT and CUPS_DATADIR environment
2172 variables to specify installation directories as
2173 needed.
2174 - Queued remote jobs recreate remote printers as needed
2175 when the scheduler is started.
2176 - Deleting a printer also purges all jobs on that
2177 printer.
2178 - Old job and control files that don't belong to a
2179 printer are automatically deleted.
2180 - Wasn't updating time-at-processing and
2181 time-at-completed attributes in job.
2182 - Didn't send required multiple-operation-time-out
2183 attribute in response to a get-printer-attributes
2184 request.
2185 - cups-lpd now supports options set with lpoptions.
2186 - The job-hold-until attribute is now provided with all
2187 jobs. For jobs that are not currently held the value
2188 is "no-hold".
2189 - The scheduler was not sending "unknown" values in IPP
2190 responses.
2191 - The lpoptions command now accumulates options from
2192 previous runs rather than replacing all options for a
2193 printer.
2194 - The IPP backend now switches to IPP/1.0 if a 1.1
2195 request fails.

2219 stderr.
2220 - The PostScript filter now added PJL commands to set the
2221 job name and display string, if supported.
2222 - The scheduler would crash if the browse socket could not
2223 be bound. Now disables browsing if port 631 (reserved for
2224 IPP) is being used by a misbehaving daemon.
2225 - The USB backend now looks for the older Linux 2.2.x USB
2226 printer device filenames as well as the newer ones.
2227 - The IPP backend now uses the UTF-8 charset exclusively,
2228 since apparently only CUPS handles more than US-ASCII and
2229 UTF-8...
2230 - Wasn't quoting ( in PostScript banners...
2231 - Send-document requests with no document-format attribute
2232 could cause cupsd to crash.
2233 - Old jobs in the spool directory might cause cupsd to
2234 crash.
2235 - CUPS now supports all of the recommended job-hold-until
2236 keywords as well as name values of the form "HH:MM" and
2237 "HH:MM:SS".
2238 - Added placeholder pointer for TLS encryption to the HTTP
2239 connection structure.
2240 - Fixed the "fast poll" bug reported by DISA - the

2242 - Revamped put_params code in pstoraster to fix bitmap
2243 allocation bug with FrameMaker output.
2244 - Ripped out filename, etc. code from pstoraster as it
2245 is a potential security hole.

2257
2258 - Documentation updates.
2259 - Many makefile and configuration script fixes (should
2260 now compile better under *BSD.)
2261 - The MediaPosition attribute was being mishandled by
2262 GhostScript, causing the RIP to fail whenever a paper
2263 tray was selected.
2264 - The scheduler now logs the final line of log information
2265 from a filter, even if it doesn't end with a newline; this
2266 primarily affects GhostScript error output.
2267 - The scheduler was saving implicit classes, so after a few
2268 restarts you'll end up with AnyPrinter, AnyAnyPrinter, etc.
2269 - The JPEG autodetection didn't work with some JPEG files that
2270 came from digital cameras (JPEG but not JFIF); the new
2271 magic types should work with all images that the JPEG library
2272 can handle.
2273 - Fixed a bug in the new contains() MIME type rule that could
2274 cause cupsd to crash.
2275 - Switched to using strtol() in the MIME type code so that you
2276 can use hex, octal, or decimal constants as desired in the
2277 mime.types file.
2278 - Banner files are now treated as templates, allowing any type
2279 of file to be used as a banner.
2280 - Added a 30-second timeout to backend device reports so that a
2281 hung backend will not prevent the scheduler from starting.
2282 - Backends are once again terminated when jobs are stopped; the
2283 CUPS-supplied backends will stay alive until the downstream
2284 filters have had a chance to clear out old page data.
2285 - The charset lookup in the CUPS localization support was wrong
2286 (iso8859-x instead of iso-8859-x)

2316 - The lp command now sends multiple files as a single job,
2317 matching the behavior of the System V command.
2318 - The "cancel -a" command now purges job history files.
2319
2320
2321CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1b3
2322

2339 file is generated).
2340 - The scheduler did not start jobs destined for remote
2341 printers when they became available.
2342 - The scheduler now sends jobs to remote printers
2343 immediately. (when sending jobs to a class, the remote
2344 printer is only used when it becomes available)

2349 (override with -f)
2350 - Added several *BSD enhancements.
2351 - Added UNSUPPORTED libtool option to configuration
2352 script to allow the use of libtool. Note that this is
2353 UNSUPPORTED by us, but added by request of the *BSD
2354 folks.
2355 - The parallel, serial, and usb backends now retry the
2356 opening of their ports. This allows multiple print
2357 queues to be associated with a single physical port,
2358 and will allow CUPS to support several types of
2359 parallel port auto-switches in the near future.
2360 - Set-Job-Attributes now supports adding, changing, and
2361 deleting job template attributes, and no longer allows
2362 job-printer-uri to be set (see CUPS-Move-Job)

2382 authentication.
2383 - Updated the RPM spec file for the current release.
2384 - Updated language support for Windows code pages.
2385 - 8-bit character set files can now use multiple fonts

2401
2402
2403CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1b2
2404
