2---------------
3
6e3d4276 4CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.19
5
ded143b8 6 - Added a robots.txt file to the standard install to
7 prevent search engines from indexing the CUPS server.
62bcac22 8 - Added support for STATE: messages
9 (printer-state-reasons), printer-state-history, and
10 printer-state-time to the scheduler.
598aeabc 11 - When using RunAsUser, the scheduler would initially
12 start any previously queued (pending) jobs with
13 RunAsUser disabled - all backends would be running as
14 root.
4d4fb342 15 - If a backend failed for a printer, CUPS would
16 incorrectly requeue the job for printing again.
c3719c59 17 - Added support for IPP collections and files.
3721af07 18 - Added experimental support for generic CGI scripts and
19 programs, Java, Perl, PHP, and Python to the
20 scheduler. See the file "CGI.txt" for more
21 information.
d40085f1 22 - The CUPS API now supports HTTP cookies and the Expect:
23 field.
dd9e85de 24 - The cancel command now correctly supports the "-u
25 user" option to cancel all jobs for the named user.
26 - The Purge-Jobs operation now supports the my-jobs
27 boolean attribute and a new purge-jobs boolean
28 attribute to control whether job history data is
29 purged from the scheduler; the default is false for
30 my-jobs and true for purge-jobs to match the original
31 implementation.
b9e3e9a0 32 - The scheduler would not timeout printers when only
33 using SLP browsing.
a5ba1d82 34 - If the scheduler was unable to execute a filter, it
35 would try to restart the job indefinitely until the
36 filter could be executed.
a9bc43ad 37 - When writing BSD printcap files, the scheduler now
38 includes the rm and rp attributes, allowing the file
39 to be exported to LPD clients. [Patch from Dominic
40 Kubla]
3f2fa036 41 - The scheduler optimization to reference IPP attribute
42 data instead of performing a full copy caused problems
43 when the referenced data was deleted before it was
44 sent. It now only references attributes that change
45 only when the scheduler is restarted. The change also
46 reduced the memory footprint of a printer object to
47 2k.
48 - The scheduler now holds signals while logging messages
49 to avoid potential deadlock issues when handling
50 signals on Solaris 8.
b27fa031 51 - The lpadmin command now allows printer access control
52 by group name as well as user name.
7057d744 53 - "lpoptions -l" got in an infinite loop if no default
54 printer was available.
55 - The scheduler now logs the job-originating-host-name
56 attribute in the page_log file, and uses "-" for any
57 empty fields (patch from Dominik Kubla).
a0db7254 58 - The pdftops filter now scales PDF pages within the
59 printable area of the page.
b43f5fd7 60 - The pstops filter didn't include the page-label and
61 classification boxes when printing EPS or non-
62 conformant PS files.
209d6c49 63 - The imagetops filter didn't always correctly position
64 the image on the page when printing in landscape
65 orientation.
b3291c5a 66 - The ppdEmit() functions now support the
67 RequiresPageRegion attribute when sending InputSlot
68 and ManualFeed commands.
69 - The PPD loading code now supports standard options
70 outside of OpenUI/CloseUI as required by the PPD spec.
43cd52be 71 - The cupstestppd program has been upgraded to provide a
72 concise PASS/FAIL report, additional detailed
73 conformance testing, and support for gzip'd PPD files.
74 - The PPD loading code is now much more strict when
75 loading a PPD file, and tracks more format errors.
5a0aab69 76 - The scheduler ignored child signals when gathering the
77 list of available devices, when it should have been
78 using the default signal handler.
dc249e0d 79 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function could encode an
80 option with a NULL last string.
8b7032be 81 - The socket backend could report the wrong number of
82 backchannel bytes if an error occurred on the link.
33073884 83 - The cups-polld program now only sleeps after getting
84 all printers and classes. This allows for longer
85 intervals without excessive delays before classes show
86 up...
2e32fcdb 87 - Added a new httpWait() function to support waiting for
88 data for a specific number of milliseconds.
89 - httpGets() now times out after 1 second on
90 non-blocking HTTP connections.
bce0c833 91 - The scheduler no longer accepts rangeOfInteger values
92 that are out of order (e.g. 5-1)
93 - The sides attribute was incorrectly sent as a name
94 value; it is a keyword value.
67474245 95 - The IPP backend now detects if the destination queue
96 has gone away and reports an error.
2e32fcdb 97 - The scheduler and HTTP API now allocate their select()
98 sets to support larger numbers of clients on systems
99 that support it.
cc6d5b1e 100 - The scheduler now sets the CFProcessPath environment
101 variable under MacOS X.
102 - The cupsLangDefault() function now uses the
103 CoreFoundation localization API under MacOS X.
f353d925 104 - The httpSeparate() function didn't handle file URIs of
105 the form "file:///path" properly.
b2d75006 106 - The lpadmin command now supports a "protocol" option
107 for specifying the binary communications protocol to
108 use when printing binary PostScript data.
9c4b5e2e 109 - The scheduler did not properly parse the SystemGroup
110 directive, so only the first group would be used.
36992080 111 - Revamped how strings are stored in the scheduler,
112 providing a substantial improvement in memory usage
113 for systems with large numbers of printers.
610e4a98 114 - The PostScript filter now supports binary PostScript
2ddb40fe 115 files and files beginning with the PJL language escape
116 sequence.
49d1718a 117 - The PPD API now provides additional information from
118 the PPD file.
6a35dc4e 119 - The USB backend didn't compile on Solaris Intel.
98c2aef5 120 - The cupstestppd utility now supports the "-q" option
121 (quiet) for use in scripts, etc.
6db7190f 122 - Merged several weight-reducing changes into the CUPS
123 baseline donated by Apple.
dcfcaeac 124 - Added preliminary support for CDSA; patch provided by
125 Apple.
8bd0441f 126 - Implicit classes are now created from identical
127 printer classes on the network.
faa0f7b5 128 - The lp command now supports a "-H restart" option to
129 restart previously printed jobs. This functionality
130 only works if you have enabled the PreserveJobFiles
131 option.
132 - The scheduler now supports URIs in HTTP request lines
133 to conform to the HTTP/1.1 specification.
cb114623 134 - The time-at-xyz attributes were not recognized in
135 banner files if prefixed by a question mark, e.g.
136 "{?time-at-creation}".
a684a3b0 137 - Added support for pre-filtering application/pictwps
138 files on MacOS clients before sending them to a server
139 via IPP.
edd85093 140 - The scheduler now allows file:/dev/null device URIs
141 even if FileDevices is set to No.
7e3ba0af 142 - CUPS uses strerror() for hostname resolution errors,
143 when it should have used hstrerror().
273e40d6 144 - The USB backend no longer tries to guess the serial
145 number of a device from the USB devices file; this
146 means that printers that don't report their serial
147 numbers in the device ID string will not be
148 individually selectable.
d0598693 149 - The pstops filter didn't handle page ranges properly
150 when a page contained an embedded document.
cb114623 151 - Added a translation of the web interface to German.
96eae06b 152 - When printing using the OutputOrder=Reverse option
153 with duplexing, the output order is now truly
154 reversed; the order of sub-pages when printing N-up is
155 the same.
156 - The pstops filter did not always output the extra
157 blank page when printing a document with an odd number
158 of pages with duplexing enabled.
2d850885 159 - The ippAddXYZ functions no longer allow the
160 application to add less than 1 value.
5b28477f 161 - Fixed a URL rewrite bug in the web interface - local
162 access was sometimes redirected away from localhost...
256f3670 163 - The ppdOpen() functions could get in an infinite loop
164 if the PPD file contained a keyword or text that was
165 too large for the buffer.
bcf61448 166 - Added preliminary support for GNU TLS; patch provided
167 by Jeff Licquia.
aea6601a 168 - Now timeout IPP attribute reads after 1 second inside
169 an attribute definition.
de218675 170 - Now timeout connections that have been shutdown (due
171 to errors) after 30 seconds instead of the Timeout
172 setting (300 seconds by default). This provides
173 faster recovery from DoS attacks.
f0ad8cdc 174 - A denial-of-service attack warning message was being
175 written to the log files by the scheduler for every
176 detection. This caused a DoS of its own in some
177 situations. The warning message is now written no more
178 than once per minute.
67fa1315 179 - Fixed the CIE colorspace support code in the image and
180 PS RIPs.
320115a7 181 - The job-quota-period, job-page-limit, and job-k-limit
182 attributes were not flagged as integers, so setting
183 quotas would not work.
6e3d4276 184 - Added an additional response check in the scheduler to
185 more quickly recover from denial-of-service attacks.
186 - The cupstestppd file was incorrectly installed in the
187 /usr/sbin directory instead of /usr/bin.
188 - The EPM list file did not include the cupstestppd
189 program or man page files.
190
191
759f5023 192CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.18
193
e38a7cef 194 - Fixed a bug in the Set-Job-Attributes code in the
195 scheduler that would cause it to crash or continuously
196 write a job control file.
f63a430f 197 - SECURITY FIX: The scheduler now provides a FileDevice
198 directive to control whether new printers can be added
199 using device URIs of the form "file:/filename". The
200 default is to not allow printers with these device
201 URIs.
767ae392 202 - The scheduler did not compute the cost of filters
203 properly, nor did it choose a multi-filter solution
204 with a lower cost than a single filter solution.
00528abb 205 - Now install CUPS PPD file test utility (cupstestppd)
206 to support basic conformance testing of PPD files.
207 - The scheduler now logs an error message when it sees a
208 non-conforming PPD file.
ae65da6c 209 - Upgraded pdftops filter to Xpdf 2.01 with fixes for
210 TrueType fonts.
1060c9b6 211 - Added a MaxClientsPerHost configuration directive to
212 provide limited protection against Denial of Service
213 attacks.
901b295d 214 - SECURITY FIX: Potential underflow/overflow bug in web
215 interface.
216 - SECURITY FIX: Race condition in certificate creation.
217 - SECURITY FIX: Bad URIs in browse packets could be used
218 to exploint the web interface underflow/overflow bug.
901b295d 219 - SECURITY FIX: Some types of Denial of Service attacks
220 were not handled properly, so once the attack was over
221 the scheduler did not close the connections
222 immediately on all platforms.
099f4d77 223 - SECURITY FIXES: Added integer overflow/underflow
224 checks for all image formats.
9c1ee2b9 225 - The pstops filter didn't reset the showpage operator
226 back to its original at the end of a job; this
227 prevented the concatenation of documents (used
228 primarily for CUPS 1.2...)
0e66dba3 229 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't always set the
230 cupsLastError() value when an error occurred.
daeeb91c 231 - The IPP media, output-bin, and sides attributes took
232 precedence over the corresponding PPD options, which
233 caused inconsistent behavior under MacOS X with some
234 PPD files.
dcc2e394 235 - The cupsaddsmb utility specified the wrong number of
236 arguments to the adddriver command when adding the
237 Win9x PostScript drivers.
dd44d54e 238 - The web interface did not always report the correct
239 error message.
759f5023 240 - The scheduler did not clear the POSIX signal action
241 structure when waiting for the child to send it a
242 SIGUSR1 signal; this could cause the signal handler
243 not to be called properly, preventing the parent
244 process from returning.
245
246
3cc7bca4 247CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.17
248
5c826e17 249 - The "manual_copies" option did not work when the LPD
250 backend had to retry a print job.
3c892427 251 - The image filters did not convert GIF images properly.
2d21c1ef 252 - The RunAsUser option was incompatible with the new
253 daemon-mode code in 1.1.16.
2d5e06dd 254 - Fixed a problem with the Set-Job-Attributes and
255 PostScript job ticket code in the scheduler - the
256 "last" attribute pointer was never updated, which
257 could cause the scheduler to crash when applying job
258 ticket data.
259 - Fixed a problem in the scheduler that caused it to
260 continue processing HTTP requests on a connection
261 after it was shutdown.
3d6f3b2b 262 - The scheduler now allows accounts authenticated via
263 PAM to not have a corresponding UNIX account, but
264 group membership still requires the account name to be
265 listed in the UNIX group file(s)...
673d1710 266 - The scheduler used a fixed-size (16k) buffer for
267 encoding job options for filters; it now dynamically
268 allocates and expands the buffer as needed depending
269 on the options that are sent in a job.
8ee2dc56 270 - The pdftops filter didn't support all of the MacOS
271 characters for MacRoman encoded fonts.
a7cc258b 272 - The cupsEncodeOptions() and cupsParseOptions()
273 functions now conform to the grammer defined by the
274 current draft of the PAPI specification. The main
275 difference is that option=yes and option=no are no
276 longer treated as boolean options.
7914a6a1 277 - The IPP backend didn't honor the encryption settings
278 in /etc/cups/client.conf.
dfac1292 279 - Fixed a potential bug in the HTTP code which was
280 caused by servers sending the status line and
281 newline(s) in separate packets.
13f5eff6 282 - User-defined classification strings are now printed
283 verbatim - previously the classification box would be
284 empty.
78143282 285 - Re-added Spanish to the list of PPD languages that
286 CUPS supports.
e0578e6e 287 - CUPS API library user and temp file updates for
288 Windows.
f33d1239 289 - The image filters did not properly handle grayscale
290 printing of Sun Raster images.
bf9e2a45 291 - The scheduler never reset the NumJobs variable before
292 loading the job list (previously this only happened on
293 a full start, so the problem was never apparent...)
bdbaa675 294 - The HTTP and IPP read/write code didn't handle EINTR
295 (interrupted system call) errors.
296 - When under high load, the scheduler could abort due to
297 the wrong errno value after a select() call. This was
298 caused by the child signal handler.
299 - Added new load tests to the test target to verify that
300 cupsd can handle hundreds of simultaneous jobs without
301 error.
e1e31a38 302 - The Solaris USB backend now supports the new device
303 URI syntax.
7a1c86c5 304 - The ppdOpen*() functions now reset the numeric locale
305 settings while loading a PPD file.
b2fdde8d 306 - Fixed the libtool build rules.
307 - The manpage make rules didn't use $(MAKE) and
308 $(MFLAGS) for the language subdirectories.
d0e4469d 309 - Now set the LC_TIME locale category to get the
310 properly localized time string.
549d1888 311 - Fixed a problem in the scheduler that would cause the
312 web interface problems when adding, modifying, or
313 configuring a printer or class.
98904cd6 314 - The backends now ignore SIGPIPE so that failed job
315 filters will not stop a print queue.
d47f8ebe 316 - The lpstat command did not allow for destination lists
317 ("lpstat -v printer1,printer2")
318 - Fixed parsing of long filter status messages in the
319 scheduler.
320 - Added some startup performance enhancements to the
321 scheduler so that the printer object information is
322 regenerated fewer times and the MIME type database is
323 not filled with lots of empty filters for raw/direct
324 queues.
854d3bb2 325 - The LPD backend now sends the job title as the print
326 filename.
137d4d44 327 - Added support for variable sizes in the EPSON dot
328 matrix printer drivers. This allows for pages as
329 short as 1/2" (1 row of labels) and does not do an
330 automatic form feed.
331 - French translation updates.
e639fb32 332 - The filters did not quote the page label string when
333 embedding it in PostScript output.
3cc7bca4 334 - The serial backend now enumerates serial ports under
335 MacOS X.
336 - The pdftops filter contained font rasterizer code that
337 wasn't being used and that depended on X11. This code
338 has been removed.
339
340
06415a96 341CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.16
342
727e6d14 343 - The cancel and lprm commands now both display an error
344 message and return a non-zero exit status if an
345 attempt is made to cancel a job on a non-existent
346 printer.
347 - The lpoptions command incorrectly complained if a
348 request to delete a non-existent printer was made.
807a1ef5 349 - If the client.conf file defines an alternate server
350 name, the "configure printer" action in the web
351 interface might not work.
7cc9aebd 352 - The lpstat command now supports a "-W" option so that
353 you can display completed jobs as well as
354 not-completed (pending) jobs.
a1ca1702 355 - The lp and lpr commands did not return an error when
356 one or more files in a set of files for printing could
357 not be printed.
3b8ff70f 358 - The lp, lpadmin, and lpstat commands now consistently
359 return with a non-zero exit status when an error
360 occurs.
db628f45 361 - The scheduler would not accept print jobs sent to a
362 stopped remote printer.
da1bfd3d 363 - The texttops filter incorrectly converted the page
364 numbers in the prettyprint header to double-byte
365 characters when printing a non-Unicode text file. This
366 caused an extra space to appear between each digit in
367 the page number.
da312e94 368 - The scheduler did not use a case-insensitive
369 comparison when adding filters for a printer.
be8c3862 370 - Upgraded the pdftops filter to Xpdf 1.01.
801766ac 371 - The scheduler no longer passes the page-border and
372 number-up-layout attributes to filters when printing
373 banner pages.
25037b2b 374 - The LPD backend now uses a 30-second timeout when
375 sending commands and control files, and a 30-second
376 timeout when retrieving responses from an LPD server.
1aef57ed 377 If a timeout occurs, it retries indefinitely. This
25037b2b 378 helps to make LPD printing over VPNs work more
379 reliably.
a9219725 380 - The USB backend now supports device URIs based on the
381 printer serial number and/or model number under Linux.
382 This avoids the "wrong device filename" problem when
383 using more than one USB printer.
c3c5af5e 384 - Now just shutdown the receiving end of a client
385 connection when sending an error that requires the
386 server to disconnect from the client afterwards. This
387 fixes a problem when doing remote administration with
388 encryption enabled.
b05809b0 389 - The scheduler did not send a printer-state-message
390 attribute if the string was empty; it now always sends
391 this attribute. This caused the printer message to be
392 displayed for other printers in the web interface.
04e01993 393 - The LPD backend now supports a "manual_copies" option,
394 e.g.: "lpd://server/queue?manual_copies=no", in order
395 to handle copies for raw jobs to printers that don't
396 implement the LPD protocol properly...
a05e4307 397 - The "mirror" option was not being handled by the
398 PostScript or image filters.
f7696015 399 - Updated the cupsaddsmb command to support the new CUPS
400 driver for Windows NT/2k/XP.
de659667 401 - Filter status lines longer than 1023 characters could
402 cause the scheduler to get into an infinite loop.
aa25b9e1 403 - The scheduler didn't reset the job state to pending
404 when modifying an active printer.
6ed689f8 405 - Now limit the maximum number of recursion steps when
406 searching for a filter for a job, in case a user
407 defines a circular filter rule.
408 - The PostScript filter would embed an invalid
409 requirements comment in some cases.
56e9c951 410 - Added support for embedded job tickets in PostScript
411 files.
5ca43bfd 412 - The PostScript filter now detects EPS files and should
413 better handle printing EPS files.
5ae53c1e 414 - The cancel command now ignores a trailing destination
415 name when cancelling a specific job ID (Solaris
416 compatibility).
879062a9 417 - The scheduler now rejects jobs with copies outside the
da956953 418 range of 1 to MaxCopies, inclusive.
419 - Added new MaxCopies directive to set the maximum
420 number of copies that a user can request.
879062a9 421 - The scheduler didn't block signals while it processed
422 others and when it forked processes.
5ae53c1e 423 - The scheduler checked for new jobs to print when
424 stopping a job. This caused jobs to restart before a
425 shutdown.
098f80c5 426 - Updated the CUPS startup script to better support
427 different timezones and to support the RedHat/Mandrake
428 init script functions, if available.
e426d516 429 - The scheduler did not properly handle backslashes in
430 banner files; it incorrectly assumed that "\c" should
431 always be replaced by "c", instead of only looking for
432 "\{" and replacing it by "{".
90ca6406 433 - The texttops filter didn't handle prettyprint=no.
434 - The text and HP-GL/2 filters didn't check for other
435 common duplex option names like cupsMarkOptions() did.
c56db294 436 - "lpoptions -x printer" no longer clears the "default
437 printer" status of the printer.
3f1897d4 438 - cupsTempFd() now stops trying to create a temporary
439 file after 1000 tries, and aborts on any error other
440 than EEXIST. This should prevent lp/lpr hangs due to
441 a bad or missing temporary directory.
5a3ef28d 442 - The lpadmin command did not send the right URI to the
443 scheduler when setting options on classes. This
444 caused a client-error-bad-request error.
e354b6e3 445 - The CUPS API convenience functions would attempt to
446 connect to the remote server name in a
447 "printer@server" printer name instead of dealing with
448 the default (usually local) server. Aside from
449 causing user confusion, the remote server name might
450 not be resolved properly, causing further problems.
f2320e2d 451 - "lp -q" would cause the "lp" command to segfault, as
452 the program would try to print the option letter that
453 caused the error using the wrong index into the
454 command-line; bugfix from Debian.
f2ffec40 455 - Fixed a minor inconsistancy in the encoding of boolean
456 attributes from printer options in
457 cupsEncodeOptions().
42ede8a2 458 - Added a FilterNice directive which sets the priority
459 of job filter processes that are run by the scheduler.
93704f20 460 - Added Solaris x86 USB printer support.
34f927d3 461 - The USB backend now reports both the ulpt and unlpt
462 devices under *BSD.
78ab59ae 463 - The "lpstat -o" command would truncate the
464 "printer-jobid" string if it was longer than 21
465 characters.
466 - The PJL-based MIME type rules now look in the first
467 1024 bytes instead of just the first 512 bytes to find
468 the language mode.
469 - The image file types are now listed explicitly in the
470 mime.convs file so that additional image file formats
471 do not use the standard CUPS image filters by default.
472 - Updated the Software Programmers Manual to include
473 all of the CUPS API functions.
cefea041 474 - ppdOpen*() no longer sorts choices for an option.
ce691c0f 475 - The web interface now enforces constraints in PPD
476 files when configuring a printer.
3733593d 477 - When stopping a printer, the scheduler didn't set the
478 printer state before stopping the current job.
a56289b6 479 - The cupsaddsmb utility now lists all data files for
480 Win9x and WinMe clients when installing that Windows
481 driver.
997cf8b0 482 - Jobs submitted to a class now bounce immediately to
483 the next available printer rather than waiting until
484 that printer is available.
485 - Filters and backends now also get the CLASS
486 environment variable set when a job is printed to a
487 printer class instead of a normal printer.
488 - Added French translations of the web interface, CUPS
489 Overview, Software Administrators Manual, and Software

496 process now waits for the child to signal it is ready
497 to accept connections.
498 - Added -F option to cupsd to run cupsd in the
499 foreground but detach from the controlling terminal
500 and current directory.
501 - The scheduler did not reload jobs when receiving a HUP
502 signal; this would cause problems since the pointers
503 into the file type database would no longer be valid
504 for existing jobs.
505 - The scheduler did not save the network interface list
506 update time, thus no caching of the network data was
507 actually provided.
508 - Updated the SuSE PAM configuration file.
9ba7fc54 509 - The LPD backend now supports a "reserve" option and no
510 longer reserves a priviledged port by default.
bdfe4c00 511 - The cupsaddsmb command now continues past printers
512 that do not have a PPD file to export.
19f699df 513 - The lpstat command didn't treat printer names as

529 file.
8ce19460 530 - Implicit classes did not inherit the location or
531 description from member printers.
fabb006b 532 - The httpGetHostByName() function did not handle
533 hostnames that started with a number.
1f1822fd 534 - Updated the filters to use the %cupsRotation comment
904eef76 535 instead of %%Orientation to auto-rotate pages, since
536 the use of %%Orientation is inconsistent.
d9e72533 537 - Added the RootCertDuration directive to control how
538 often the root authentication certificate is updated.
375a0ad5 539 - Increased the size of the IPP write buffer to 32k to
540 allow for larger attribute values and to provide more
541 efficient output of large numbers of attributes.
7ed5d5f2 542 - The polling daemon now retries the initial connection
543 to the remote server; this fixes a problem when the
544 remote server is unavailable when the scheduler starts
545 up...
19e7b382 546 - The scheduler didn't validate Digest users against the
547 system group(s), so Digest and BasicDigest
548 authentication didn't work for administration
549 operations.
103abc03 550 - The scheduler now passes the SHLIB_PATH environment
551 variable to child processes (HP-UX shared libraries)
06415a96 552 - The scheduler now maps accesses from the loopback
553 interface to "localhost".
554 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon sent a status code byte in
555 response to queue state commands, but those commands
556 only return textual data.
557
558
7680b71d 559CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.15-1
560

562 string function header, which is required on systems
563 that don't have their own snprintf() function.
564 - The French manpage Makefile tried to install the
565 language subdirectories when it (obviously) didn't
566 have to.
567
568

579 (re)mark the correct PageSize or PageRegion option
580 depending on the selected ManualFeed or InputSlot
581 options.
582 - ppdEmitFd() didn't handle custom page sizes.
583 - Darwin uses <pam/pam_appl.h> instead of
584 <security/pam_appl.h>.
fba7409c 585 - The jobs.cgi web interface now handles all job
586 operations, allowing the administrator to allow "job
587 administrators" or operators to manage jobs (but not
588 queues) on the server.
589 - The cupsDoFileRequest() function now checks if the
590 filename passed into the function is a directory, and
591 returns the IPP_NOT_POSSIBLE error if so.
592 - New SCSI printer backend.
a594463b 593 - Cleaned up handling of locales with trailing character
594 set definitions.
a319615f 595 - Fixed handling of invalid PPD attributes inside

604 functions) for easier string/buffer protection.
7b40ae49 605 - The auto-generated printcap/printers.conf files now
606 have a small comment header explaining where the file
607 comes from...
6df23e27 608 - The PostScript filter now supports 6, 9, and 16-up
ed6078a4 609 output, as well as new page-border and

612 using the default printer.
613 - Added ConfigFilePerm and LogFilePerm directives.
614 - Increased maximum size of MIME types to IPP_MAX_NAME
615 to allow for longer printer names.
616 - No longer create remote printers when loading job
617 history data.
618 - The printer-make-and-model attribute wasn't set when
619 the PPD file didn't contain a NickName attribute.
620 - Now handle PPD files with translation strings longer
621 than 80 bytes - they are truncated if they go over...
c47e97cc 622 - The scheduler didn't handle signals until after it
623 loaded the configuration files the first time; this
624 caused problems on some installations that would
625 restart the scheduler as the system booted into run
626 level 3.
627 - Now throttle broadcasts like we do for polling.
0203af93 628 - Fixed a bug in the reading of PPD files using CR's
629 instead of CR LF's or LF's.

637 (cupsd).
a4e23897 638 - Updated the IPP backend to reconnect after downgrading
639 from IPP/1.1 to 1.0, and when sending requests to HP
640 JetDirect interfaces that don't support HTTP
641 Keep-Alive like they should.
1cf29e95 642 - Now pass NLSPATH and DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH environment
643 variables, if defined, to CGI and job processes.
644 - Removed the pstoraster filter (based on GNU
645 Ghostscript 5.50) and now provide the raster "driver"
646 and patch file necessary to use the current GNU
647 Ghostscript 7.05 release.
648 - Removed unnecessary fonts and updated the Courier and
649 Symbol fonts to the latest versions to better support
650 non-ISOLatin1 text.
651 - The text filter now always embeds the Courier and
652 Symbol fonts to ensure that they contain the full set
653 of glyphs.
576b82ca 654 - The lp and lpr commands now only override the SIGINT
655 handler if it is not being ignored (patch from Robert
656 Ambrose for some interactive software that catches
657 SIGINT and will gracefully cancel the print...)
350807be 658 - The PostScript image filter (imagetops) now supports
659 printing CMYK images using the CMYK colorspace.
660 - The image filters now support CMYK JPEG files, and
661 correctly handles the inverted files from Photoshop
662 (which seems to save RGBW data, not CMYK...)
e3bf38b3 663 - Added a "check" target to the top-level makefile to
664 conform with GNU standards (same as "test").
746265a5 665 - The IPP code didn't always map the POSIX locale "C" to
666 the proper IPP language code.
32f78676 667 - The cupsaddsmb program was updated to use the
668 setdriver command instead of addprinter.
934ef66d 669 - Banner pages were not handled properly for implicit
670 classes.
7200e26c 671 - When tunneling to a remote system using SSH, the
672 printer URIs for local printers on the remote system
673 did not reflect the correct port number.
d7a9de63 674 - The Allow, Deny, BrowseAllow, BrowseDeny, and
675 BrowseAddress directives now support the network
676 interface names "@LOCAL" and "@IF(name)" for access
677 control and browsing based on the current interface
678 addresses instead of fixed names or IP addresses.
2a55786c 679 - The texttops filter did not properly recognize the
680 "nowrap" (wrap=false) option.
83575f2d 681 - The InstallableOptions group name in a PPD file is now
682 translated separately (CUPS_MSG_OPTIONS_INSTALLED) so
683 that UIs can accurately detect the presence of this
684 group.
f4647930 685 - The scheduler no longer keeps job history data for
686 remote printers on the client (just on the server.)
4c2096b8 687 - The parallel and USB backends now retry if the backend
688 detects that the printer is not connected to the
689 system (rather than stopping the queue...)
690 - The network backends now retry if the backend detects
691 that the printer is not connected to the network or is
692 unreachable (rather than stopping the queue...)
c672a858 693 - The cupsGetDests() function no longer lists options
694 and instances for printers that no longer exist.
31e65f97 695 - The scheduler now converts the document language to
696 the correct LANG string.
8c47c4b4 697 - The cupsaddsmb program now supports alternative CUPS
698 and SAMBA server names.
40a0e1d1 699 - The PostScript filter now supports the Orientation
700 comment and rotates the page as needed automatically.
f915b00f 701 - Revamped the makefiles slightly to use automatically
702 generated dependencies.
703 - Build fixes for OS X.
a1028786 704 - The TIFF reading code depended on the newest version
705 of libtiff; now conditionally compile that portion of
706 the loader.
bbc1bfe5 707 - The PPD code now decodes all JCL options in the
708 JCLSetup group, not just those options that start with
709 the prefix "JCL".
267cf96a 710 - The backends now read print data using the read()
711 system call to ensure that the current page is printed
712 while the next page is being processed.
2f7be6ff 713 - The pdftops filter did not support shading type 3
714 (radial fill) for the "sh" operator.
dab1a4d8 715 - The cups-polld program now throttles the local
716 broadcasts of polled printers and classes so that the
717 local system is not overwhelmed with hundreds of
718 printers and classes all at once.
719 - Updated the serial backend to support 230,400 baud for
720 the Linux PPC port.
59168282 721 - The cupsGetJobs() function wouldn't report completed
722 jobs that did not have a document-format attribute
723 value.
1c9c423b 724 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function now maintains a table
725 of known boolean and numeric options, and encodes all
726 other options as strings.
f918a565 727 - Now add a newline before the end-of-page code in the
728 PostScript filter; this fixes a problem with files
729 that don't end with a newline.
a28d12c5 730 - The image filters looked for the "orientation" option
731 instead of the correctly named "orientation-requested"
732 option.
74cfdb8b 733 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function now handles mixed
734 integers and ranges.
735 - New translation guide for developers to provide native
736 language support for CUPS.
737
738
ee8b7dd3 739CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.14
740
843779ef 741 - The ippRead() function did not verify that the
ba31b514 742 attribute name length or string with language value
743 was not larger than the read buffer.
e2943c5f 744 - The scheduler set the signal handlers before loading
745 the configuration files the first time; this prevented
746 the RunAsUser directive from blocking server reloads.
5fd84fcc 747 - Added Swedish message catalog.
0e1f4bec 748 - The parallel backend now recognizes the /dev/printers
749 device directory under Linux 2.4.x.
ba31b514 750 - MacOS X fixes.
751 - The cupsaddsmb utility sent the server name after the
752 user information when executing the rpcclient program.
753 This caused problems with some versions of SAMBA
754 2.2.x.
ee8b7dd3 755 - The IPP backend did not pass the requesting user name
756 when checking on the print job status. This prevented
757 it from waiting for the job to complete when
758 communicating with some IPP implementations that
759 require it.
760
761
d2503e02 762CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.13
763
28a96fe2 764 - The lpstat command did not report jobs submitted to
765 regular printer classes.
0f74081c 766 - The texttops filter didn't use sufficient precision
767 when positioning text with some values of cpi and lpi.
768 This could cause the alignment of text to stray.
0ffae44c 769 - cupsGetDests() didn't merge the options from the
770 /etc/cups/lpoptions file with ~/.lpoptions - options
771 in ~/.lpoptions overrode them completely.
772 - Added support for KOI8-R and KOI8-U character sets,
773 and added several Russian message catalogs.
bd726d0d 774 - The scheduler put the wrong timezone offset in the log
775 files (e.g. +0500 instead of -0500 for EST...)
776 - The scheduler did not ignore trailing whitespace in
777 *.convs files.
db911fcb 778 - The scheduler now forces all processes to exit (kill
779 -9) when it is stopped. This prevents parallel and
780 USB devices from running in the background after cupsd
781 goes away.
7c587866 782 - The cupsParseOptions() function didn't skip trailing
783 whitespace after quoted values.
c3026ddc 784 - More changes to support CUPS on OS/2.
24e80caf 785 - Added Simplified Chinese message catalog.
9495ba14 786 - Added PAM support for IRIX.
c6e1ca5d 787 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't remove the @server
788 portion of the printer name, and since it would
789 connect immediately to the remote server instead of
790 the local server, the printer would not be found.
8b8cca8e 791 - Classification and page labels were not rotated to
792 match the page orientation.
9ae34eb7 793 - Now set the TCP "no delay" option on network
794 connections to improve performance/response time.
795 - Improved the IRIX printing tools support with patches
796 from Andrea Suatoni.
797 - Added a new PrintcapGUI directive to specify the GUI
798 option panel program to use for the IRIX printing
799 tools support.
800 - The cupsGetDests() function did not check to see if a
801 user-defined default printer (set via lpoptions) still
802 existed.
803 - The pstops filter no longer assumes that the default
804 dictionary is writable when doing N-up processing.
bbfcd9c7 805 - The pstops filter now supports printing N-up with the
806 page-set option.
873a6f43 807 - The imagetoraster filter now supports direct printing
808 of CMYK image data without conversion/correction.
d1c2727f 809 - The IPP backend now reports printer state/error
810 conditions when possible (toner low, media empty,
811 etc.)
bd73c81f 812 - The lpstat command now supports the (undocumented)
813 IRIX -l option ("-lprintername") for a compact job
814 listing for a printer.
815 - The lpstat command now includes printer date/time
816 information in the output (always Jan 01 00:00) to
817 make third-party tools happy.
18843e59 818 - The text filter now supports non-integer cpi and lpi
819 values.
dd5f3453 820 - The Margins field in the CUPS raster header was not
821 initialized by the pstoraster filter.
9aa1f763 822 - Added --with-optim="flags" option to configure script.
823 - Updated the Italian message translations.
824 - Updated the cups.list file to install the correct
825 files.
826 - The pstoraster filter accessed the third element of a
827 2 element array.
5f46b7d1 828 - The scheduler did not setup a status pipe for polling
829 processes, so error messages went to whatever file
830 descriptor 2 was pointing to when they were started.
5fb5dab7 831 - The httpMD5Final() function didn't put a colon between
832 the password and nonce strings.
c5de57af 833 - The pstops filter did not default to Binary data for
834 "%%BeginData:".
4a7e6692 835 - The pstops filter did not stop processing when a line
836 containing a CTRL-D is seen.
aba2fa7e 837 - The scheduler no longer replaces the JobSheets values
838 from the printers.conf and classes.conf files with the
839 classification level, if set. This way the original
840 banner settings are preserved when classification
841 levels are changed or turned off.
8d5eb22e 842 - The serial backend didn't drain the output queue, nor
843 did it restore the original settings.
d2503e02 844 - Updated the default system group under MacOS X.
845 - If no SystemGroup was defined in cupsd.conf, the
846 system default group was not used.
847 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now supports LPD clients that
848 send multiple control files.
849 - httpConnectEncrypt() now always uses encryption for
850 connections on port 443, since port 443 is reserved
851 for the "https" scheme.
852 - Group authentication via certificates did not work
853 from the web interface for accounts other than
854 "root".
855 - The serial port backend did not clear the OPOST
856 option, which could cause problems with some printers.
857 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon didn't lookup the client IP
858 address properly.
859 - The parallel backend now identifies the polled and
860 interrupt-driven devices under *BSD.
861 - The scheduler allowed the "always" encryption mode
862 inside a Location, which is not valid.
863 - The CUPS startup script now checks for the timezone
864 information under Linux.
865 - Now also map the sides attribute to the JCLDuplex
866 option (if present) in PPD files.
867 - Updated pdftops to Xpdf 0.93a.
868 - Added support for MD5 passwords under Slackware.
869 - Added new AuthType BasicDigest that does Basic
870 authentication using the MD5 password file managed by
871 the lppasswd command.
872 - The banner page attribute substitution code now
873 retains {name} sequences in banner files when the
874 named attribute is undefined. Use {?name} to
875 conditionally substitute an IPP attribute.
876 - The scheduler now ensures that the ServerRoot
877 directory and configuration files are owned by and
878 writable by the User and Group in cupsd.conf.
879 - The USB backend now lists all USB printer devices
880 regardless of whether a printer is connected or not.
881 This allows new USB printers to be connected without
882 restarting cupsd.
883 - Added some more minor performance tweeks to the IPP
884 protocol code to reduce copying and array indexing.
885 - The cupsaddsmb utility now uses the -c option with
886 smbclient and rpcclient to avoid the read length limit
887 for commands on the standard input.
888 - Added an include file to the CRD handling code in
889 pstoraster so that it would compile properly on 64-bit
890 pointer platforms...
891
892
893CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.12
894
895 - Added "Polish" to the list of known languages for PPD
896 files.
897 - Added missing directory definition to cups-config.
898 - The CUPS-Move-Job operation did not set the
899 destination type for the new destination.
900 - The CUPS-Add-Printer operation did not support the
901 allow=all or deny=none values to clear the per-user
902 printer ACLs.
903 - The SetPrinterAttrs() function did not handle invalid
904 PPD files that were missing the required NickName
905 attribute. It now looks for NickName, ModelName, and
906 then substitutes the string "Bad PPD File" for the
907 printer-make-and-model attribute.
908
909
910CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.11
911
912 - Added support for embedded TrueType fonts in PDF
913 files.
914 - Added support for PostScript functions in PDF
915 files.
916 - Added new "cupsaddsmb" utility for exporting
917 CUPS printer drivers to SAMBA/Windows clients.
918 - Added preliminary support for Darwin/MacOS X.
919 - The CUPS-Add-Printer operation no longer allows
920 arbitrary scheme names in device URIs to be used - it
921 now restricts the available schemes to those found in
922 the device list (lpinfo -m).
923 - The ippRead() and ipp_read_file() functions could not
924 handle more than IPP_MAX_VALUES (100) values in a
925 1setOf attribute. These functions have been updated
926 to dynamically allocate more memory as needed, and the
927 IPP_MAX_VALUES constant now represents the allocation
928 increment. [this caused some versions of the
929 GIMP-print drivers to fail since the number of media
930 options exceeded 100...]
931 - The scheduler could crash when BrowseShortNames
932 was set to "No".
933 - The scheduler did not prevent MaxClients from being
934 set to 0, which could cause the scheduler to go in an
935 infinite loop when accepting a request.
936 - Made some performance optimizations in the ippRead()
937 functions to make IPP request/response processing
938 faster.
939 - The accept/reject/enable/disable command did not
940 support properly support the "-h" or default
941 server name.
942 - The scheduler did not save the quota configuration
943 when the job-quota-period attribute was set to 0.
944 - The LPDEST and PRINTER environment variables did not
945 support printer instances.
946 - The text filter now handles more types of boldface and
947 underline formatting.
948 - The cupsTempFd() function did not fail if the
949 temporary directory did not exist; this would cause it
950 to loop indefinitely instead of returning an error
951 (-1).
952 - Stopping (disabling) a printer class did not stop jobs
953 from printing to printers in that class.
954 - The cupsGetDests() function was sending the
955 requested-attributes attribute as a name instead of a
956 keyword; this caused a serious performance problem on
957 slower systems since more information had to be
958 transferred from server to client.
959 - The web interfaces did not always quote < and & in
960 things like the job title. This had the potential for
961 browser-based security violations (on the browser's
962 machine); bug report from SuSE.
963 - The scheduler now treats unauthenticated usernames as
964 case-insensitive when doing quota and allow/deny
965 processing.
966 - The lp command sent the "request ID is ..." message
967 to stderr instead of stdout...
968 - The PostScript filter (pstops) now handles EPS files,
969 adding a showpage command to the files as needed.
970 - The configure script checked for the <stdlib.h> header
971 file before the JPEG libraries; since the JPEG headers
972 can define HAVE_STDLIB_H, the configure check would
973 cause the JPEG check to fail on some systems.
974 - The scheduler now supports localized banner files,
975 using the subdirectory approach, e.g. the "es"
976 subdirectory under /usr/share/cups/banners is used for
977 the Spanish banner files.
978 - Updated the scheduler so it knows the correct
979 language abbreviation to use for all supported
980 PPD LanguageVersion values. The new code also
981 supports country codes as well, so "English-GB"
982 maps to the "en_GB" locale.
983 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon did not support
984 anonymous printing (no username specified).
985 While the username is REQUIRED by RFC-1179,
986 MacOS clients do not send the REQUIRED username
987 information when printing via LPD.
988 - Added many warning and informational messages
989 to cups-lpd where they were missing.
990 - Added Czech message file contributed by SuSE.
991 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now returns a non-zero
992 status if an invalid destination or job ID is
993 provided.
994 - The scheduler did not honor the KeepAlive setting in
995 cupsd.conf.
996 - Increased the size of the file read/write buffers to
997 32k.
998 - *BSD static library creation fixes.
999 - Use mkstemps() instead of tmpnam() in pdftops whenever
1000 possible.
1001 - Added httpGetHostByName() function as a wrapper around
1002 gethostbyname() - some implementations of this
1003 function do not support IP addresses (e.g. MacOS X.)
1004 - Added casts to all printf's of file lengths, since
1005 there is currently no standard way of formatting long
1006 long values.
1007 - The client filename field was not cleared in all
1008 instances, resulting in old form data being submitted
1009 to CGIs.
1010 - The httpConnect*() functions now try all available
1011 addresses for a host when connecting for the first
1012 time.
1013 - The pstoraster filter would "lose" all drawing
1014 commands when the PageSize was set but the printer
1015 bitmap was not reallocated. This was most noticeable
1016 with the output from StarOffice 6 beta and would
1017 result in a blank page being output...
1018 - The IPP backend was sending a PAGE comment even when
1019 printing the output from a filter (it should only send
1020 page comments when printing files directly...)
1021 - The pdftops filter didn't properly map glyph names of
1022 embedded Asian TrueType fonts.
1023 - Changed the CUPS startup script to look for a program
1024 named "cupsd", not just any program with "cupsd" in
1025 the name (this caused the apcupsd UPS monitoring
1026 daemon to be stopped/restarted...)
1027 - The CUPS-Move-Job operation did not change the
1028 internal destination name for held jobs, so moved (but
1029 held) jobs would still show up as queued on the
1030 original destination.
1031 - The cups-polld program didn't send the
1032 requested-attributes attribute in the
1033 CUPS-Get-Printers and CUPS-Get-Classes requests, which
1034 made it use more CPU and bandwidth than required.
1035 - The scheduler and CUPS API incorrectly added a
1036 job-sheets-default attribute for remote printers. This
1037 caused banner pages to be omitted from client system
1038 prints.
1039
1040
1041CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.10-1
1042
1043 - Minor fixes to the filter, systemv, and template
1044 makefiles to install files properly.
1045
1046
1047CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.10
1048
1049 - Added a driver for DYMO label printers.
1050 - Added new ClassifyOverride directive to allow users
1051 to override the classification of individual jobs.
1052 - Added new BrowseProtocols directive to control which
1053 browse protocols are used (currently CUPS and SLP).
1054 - Added SLPv2 support (thanks to Matt Peterson for
1055 contributing the initial implementation for CUPS.)
1056 - Adding a raw printer on a remote CUPS server now
1057 correctly redirects PPD file requests to the remote
1058 server.
1059 - The serial backend now limits writes to 1/10th
1060 second worth of data to avoid buffer overflows
1061 with some types of flow control.
1062 - The scheduler did not properly process PUT requests,
1063 so configuration files could not be uploaded to the
1064 server.
1065 - The scheduler did not strip trailing whitespace on
1066 lines in the configuration files.
1067 - The httpWrite() function did not transition the PUT
1068 request to the HTTP_STATUS state to get the status
1069 from the server.
1070 - The scheduler did not properly handle trailing null
1071 ("-") filters when testing a driver that sent data
1072 to the file: pseudo-backend.
1073 - The IPP backend now only sends a document-format of
1074 "application/vnd.cups-raw" when printing to another
1075 CUPS server using a local printer driver or interface
1076 script. Previously the job's document format was
1077 used, which was incorrect.
1078 - The lpadmin command didn't use the ppd-name attribute
1079 with the -m option; this prevented the use of the
1080 "raw" model from the command-line.
1081 - The pstoraster filter output draft (1-bit) 6-color
1082 output in the wrong order; this resulted in yellow
1083 being printed instead of black on Stylus Photo
1084 printers.
1085 - The pdftops filter did not have the Japanese and
1086 Chinese text support compiled into it.
1087 - The IPP and AppSocket backends did not clear the
1088 "waiting for print job to complete" status message,
1089 which caused some confusion... :)
1090 - The serial backend now opens the port in "no delay"
1091 mode to avoid DCD detection problems with some OS's.
1092
1093
1094CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.9-1
1095
1096 - The configure script did not substitute the
1097 correct user and group names.
1098 - The configure script did not use the full path
1099 to the install-sh script when it was used.
1100 - The pstoraster filter did not correctly support
1101 DuplexTumble mode for printers that used flip
1102 duplexing.
1103 - The cups.list.in file was missing from the
1104 distribution.
1105 - The New DeskJet series driver did not use the
1106 correct OrderDependency for the Duplex option.
1107 - Use read() instead of fread() to read piped
1108 print files in lpr/lp. This avoids a bug in the
1109 HP-UX 10.20 fread() function.
1110 - Updated the pstoraster filter to use the MIPS_FIXADE
1111 system call under IRIX to fix bus error problems on
1112 R12000 processors (Ghostscript is not 64-bit clean...)
1113 - Some Xerox PPD files (most notably the Phaser 790)
1114 have illegal whitespace in the option keyword in the
1115 OpenUI line. This caused the PageRegion option to not
1116 be recognized properly for the Phaser 790.
1117
1118
1119CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.9
1120
1121 - Revamped the configure script to use a modular
1122 approach for the various tests.
1123 - Added --with-openssl-* options to properly reference
1124 the OpenSSL libraries in DSOs.
1125 - Added --with-cups-user and --with-cups-group
1126 options to specify the default user and group for
1127 CUPS.
1128 - Added AIX shared library support.
1129 - Added AIX device discovery for the serial and
1130 parallel ports.
1131 - Now use install program or script to install
1132 directories, files, and symlinks.
1133 - Updated pstops filter to use strict handling of EPS
1134 files embedded in a PostScript document. The %%EOF
1135 handling in 1.1.8 caused some dvips files not to
1136 print.
1137 - Fixed yet another memory allocation bug in pstoraster
1138 that would cause it to crash. This fix also ensures
1139 that all memory allocations are done on (at least) a
1140 64-bit boundary.
1141 - Fixed Digest authentication - httpGetSubField() didn't
1142 skip the Digest keyword.
1143 - The scheduler did not properly handle Digest
1144 authentication with the new multiple-group support.
1145 - The scheduler did not allow usernames that were
1146 not in the UNIX password file to be used for Digest
1147 authentication from passwd.md5.
1148 - The scheduler could not scan PPD files that only used
1149 a carriage return (i.e. MacOS PPD files); the new code
1150 is also about 40% faster, so servers with thousands of
1151 PPD files should start much faster now.
1152 - The scheduler now stores the PPD file size and
1153 modification times in the ppds.dat file, so it can now
1154 incrementally update the PPD database from the model
1155 directory, resulting in significantly faster startup
1156 times.
1157 - The lpinfo command did not return a non-zero status
1158 code if an error occurred.
1159 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler's UpdateJob() function.
1160 Basically, all jobs shared the same status buffer, and
1161 the "buffer start" pointer could point to 1 byte
1162 before the beginning of the buffer. The new
1163 implementation uses a separate buffer for each job and
1164 eliminates the buffer start bug.
1165 - The IPP backend would send N copies of a document if
1166 the receiving device didn't support the copies
1167 attribute, even if the upstream driver already added
1168 the necessary commands to generate the copies. This
1169 was most noticeable with HP printers where N * N
1170 copies would come out instead of N.
1171 - The PostScript filter (pstops) did not properly handle
1172 duplex printing on inkjet printers that provide this
1173 option. Copies would be put on the front and back
1174 sides of the duplexed page, and the filter did not
1175 output an even number of pages.
1176 - The backends always caught SIGTERM after they
1177 connected to the printer. This prevented raw jobs
1178 from being cancelled early.
1179 - The cupsSetDests() function now removes any printers,
1180 instances, and options that are not defined by the
1181 user or server. This should prevent old system-wide
1182 options from being used in individual user accounts.
1183 - Updated the EPSON printer driver and added PPDs for
1184 the newer EPSON Stylus printers that only support the
1185 "ESC i" graphics command.
1186 - The lpadmin command didn't allow you to add remote
1187 printers to a local class.
1188 - The lpadmin command didn't allow you to set the
1189 options (quotas, etc.) for a class.
1190 - The scheduler did not load or save the
1191 job-sheets-default attribute for classes.
1192 - The scheduler did not automatically recreate remote
1193 printers that were part of a class.
1194 - It was possible for a printer class to list the same
1195 printer more than once.
1196 - The scheduler now makes a backup copy of classes.conf
1197 and printers.conf before writing the new file.
1198 - The lppasswd program incorrectly asked for a new
1199 password when deleting an existing MD5 password
1200 account.
1201 - The scheduler did not match "/printers/name.ppd"
1202 against a location of "/printers/name".
1203 - The client code did not always handle HTTP encryption
1204 upgrades properly.
1205 - The client code now caches the last Digest password so
1206 it can retry using a new resource path or nonce value,
1207 which are included in the MD5 sum sent to the server.
1208 This should eliminate unnecessary password prompts
1209 when using Digest authentication.
1210 - The lppasswd command didn't have a man page.
1211 - Updated the PJL detection rules to allow the universal
1212 escape to occur anywhere in the first 128 bytes of the
1213 file.
1214 - The cups-polld program would poll servers continuously
1215 with no delay if there was an error contacting the
1216 server.
1217 - The IPP backend would send an empty job-name or
1218 requesting-user-name attribute if the corresponding
1219 job attribute was an empty string. While this is
1220 allowed by the IPP specification, some HP JetDirect
1221 implementations return a client-error-bad-request
1222 error if an empty name attribute value is received.
1223 The new code only sends these attributes if they are
1224 not the empty string.
1225 - At least some versions of the HP JetDirect firmware
1226 do not correctly implement IPP. Added additional
1227 checks to the IPP backend to eliminate extra,
1228 unsupported attributes which should normally be
1229 ignored by a compliant IPP device.
1230 - The scheduler did not copy the complete list of
1231 supported file types into the
1232 document-format-supported attribute. This caused
1233 clients to not send the local file type (such as
1234 application/vnd.cups-raw for raw print files) and the
1235 corresponding bad output in some cases.
1236 - The scheduler did not fully copy attributes from a
1237 set-job-attributes request - string attributes were
1238 only referenced, which could cause cupsd to crash
1239 or behave irratically.
1240 - The lp command didn't send the right value for the
1241 job-hold-until attribute when "-H resume" was
1242 specified.
1243 - The IPP backend now returns as soon as a job is
1244 completed or reported as "pending-held".
1245 - Added new ImplicitAnyClasses and HideImplicitMembers
1246 directives to the cupsd.conf file to make implicit
1247 classes more usable/transparent to the user.
1248 - Clients can now (with the appropriate authentication)
1249 retrieve and update the server configuration files
1250 using HTTP GET and PUT requests.
1251 - The web interface didn't allow you to modify the
1252 location or description of the printer.
1253 - The pdftops filter now uses its own temporary file
1254 function to work with PDF files using LZW compression
1255 (which use the uncompress program or gunzip)
1256 - The SystemGroup directive now supports specification of
1257 multiple groups.
1258 - Added new Include directive to cupsd.conf, a la
1259 Apache.
1260 - Added new pseudo-driver/PPD called "raw" that can be
1261 used to create/convert a raw queue. This also allows
1262 raw queues to be created in the web interface.
1263 - The pdftops filter didn't handle image objects that
1264 used JPEG and Flate compression together.
1265 - The pstops filter counted pages wrong when using the
1266 N-up and even/odd printing options. This prevented
1267 the page-ranges option from working properly.
1268 - Added another fix to pstoraster for a bus error
1269 condition caused by a lack of parenthesis in the
1270 Ghostscript code.
1271 - Added new "natural-scaling" option which scales the
1272 natural size of the image (percent of natural image
1273 size instead of percent of page size.)
1274 - The lppasswd program is now setuid to the CUPS user
1275 instead of root.
1276 - The PPD functions did not allow for PPD files that
1277 defined the page sizes and margins before the page
1278 size options.
1279 - The mime.types file now checks for the PJL "LANGUAGE =
1280 Postscript" command for PostScript files.
1281 - The scheduler did not truncate file: output files.
1282 - The PPD file reading code did not handle options with
1283 raw quotes (") in the human-readable names.
1284 - The pdftops filter now remaps the space character when
1285 (bad) PDF files contain a .notdef glyph for the space
1286 character.
1287
1288
1289CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.8
1290
1291 - Updated spec file to generate separate cups-pstoraster
1292 package for pstoraster.
1293 - The spec file wasn't setting LOGDIR in the install.
1294 - The scheduler might restart a stopped printer after
1295 stopping a print job. Thanks to Florent
1296 Guiliani for finding this bug!
1297 - The init script showed run level 0 for the Red Hat
1298 chkconfig program. This is incorrect because Red Hat
1299 doesn't use run level 0 for shutdown scripts.
1300 - The IPP backend did not handle the
1301 client-error-not-found error when checking the status
1302 of the job that was sent. This caused remote queues
1303 to stop on client machines when the server had job
1304 history disabled.
1305 - Added httpConnectEncrypt() function to avoid
1306 performance penalty for setting up encrypted
1307 connections initially.
1308 - Use httpConnectEncrypt() in all client apps and in the
1309 CUPS API to ensure consistent usage of encryption
1310 throughout.
1311 - Jobs weren't queued to remote classes (fix from
1312 Richard Begg.)
1313 - AIX changes from Richard Begg.
1314 - Fixed the pstops fix for GNOME output - no longer use
1315 the page numbers in the %%Page: comment since GNOME
1316 puts a filename instead (!?@!#?!). There is still an
1317 issue with N-up printing since GNOME defines its fonts
1318 in the first page instead of the document setup section
1319 (pages must be independent according to the DSC spec)
1320 People with GNOME printing problems should consult bug
1321 #54489...
1322 - The imagetops filter produced PAGE: messages when
1323 generating PostScript for a non-PostScript printer
1324 (only affects page-label and Classification
1325 options.)
1326 - The updated pdftops filter was looking for an options
1327 file called xpdf.conf instead of pdftops.conf.
1328
1329
1330CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.7
1331
1332 - Configuration script changes, including new
1333 "--with-docdir=/dir" option to relocate CUPS
1334 documentation and web content according to your
1335 favorite version of the FHS.
1336 - Documentation updates for encryption, SLP, etc.
1337 - New Software Test Plan and automated test script to
1338 test CUPS prior to installation.
1339 - All scheduler configuration files are now case
1340 insensitive to match Apache.
8372ad6b 1341 - Added support for Apache ListenBackLog, Require,
1342 Satisfy, <Limit>, <LimitExcept>, and LimitRequestSize
d2503e02 1343 directives.
1344 - Added support for all Apache log levels...
1345 - Added support for "double" HostNameLookups.
1346 - Added new "RunAsUser" directive to support non-root
1347 configurations on the standard (priviledged) ports.
1348 - Added support for non-root invocation of the lpd
1349 backend (does no reserve a priviledged port, which
1350 might not work with some LPD servers...)
1351 - Added new PrintcapFormat directive to control the
1352 output format of the printcap file (BSD or Solaris
1353 formats are supported at present.)
1354 - The CUPS directory service routines now handle
1355 ECONNREFUSED errors gracefully rather than shutting
1356 all browsing off.
1357 - ippErrorString() now returns the recommended error
1358 messages from the IPP/1.1 Model and Semantics
1359 document.
1360 - Fixed a minor IPP compliance issue with responses
1361 to requests without the attributes-charset or
1362 attributes-natural-language attributes.
1363 - Sun fix: need httpFlush() call for chunked IPP
1364 requests in cupsDoFileRequest().
1365 - httpConnect() now looks up "localhost" by name and
1366 by address (127.0.0.1) for users the go to the
1367 trouble of removing the required localhost entry
1368 in /etc/hosts or on their DNS server...
1369 - Added support for Linux 2.4.x devfs parallel port
1370 filenames (/dev/parallel/N).
1371 - cupsDo[File]Request() and cupsGetPPD() no longer
1372 block trying to reconnect to a crashed or inaccessable
1373 server.
1374 - Added new ppdEmitJCL() function to better handle
1375 PJL commands from PPD files.
1376 - A bug in UpdateJob() would cause the scheduler to
1377 consume 100% CPU until another request was submitted.
1378 - The cancel command did not support the "-" option to
1379 cancel all jobs on all printers.
1380 - The cancel and lprm commands did not support cancelling
1381 the next/current job in the queue.
1382 - The pdftops and pstoraster filters were using unsafe
1383 temporary file functions; while this is not a problem
1384 in normal configurations (the CUPS temporary directory
1385 is restricted), they now use the cupsTempFd() function.
1386 - The mime.types file was missing the recognition rule
1387 for Sun Raster images.
1388 - The admin CGI was passing a printer make string to
1389 ippSetCGIVars() that was being replaced in that
1390 function.
1391 - "lpoptions -l" would resave the options...
1392 - The EPSON drivers now send the "end packet mode"
1393 command when printing to USB devices.
1394 - The scheduler initialized certificates before loading
1395 the cupsd.conf file.
1396 - The scheduler used /dev/random to collect random data,
1397 which could block if insufficient entropy information
1398 had been collected by the kernel. Now use
1399 /dev/urandom.
1400 - Fixed a bug in the whitespace skipping code in
1401 httpGetSubField().
1402 - The LPD backend now supports a new "order" option:
1403 "lpd://server/queue?order=control,data" (default) and
1404 "lpd://server/queue?order=data,control".
1405 - The scheduler enforced a 30 second timeout on all
1406 clients regardless of the Timeout directive and if a
1407 CGI was currently running.
1408 - cupsParseOptions() now sets boolean options to
1409 option=true or option=false.
1410 - The "percent complete" calculations in the LPD backend
1411 could overflow on large files, causing the percentage
1412 to wrap to 0 every 40MB or so.
1413 - Fixed a memory reallocation bug in pstoraster that
1414 could cause it to crash.
1415 - The LPD backend now sanitizes the job title to avoid
1416 potential problems on remote LPD servers.
1417 - The lp command did not send the requesting-user-name
1418 attribute when altering a job.
1419 - The pstops filter did not handle PostScript files with
1420 lines longer than 8191 bytes.
1421 - The scheduler no longer uses inet_addr() to convert IP
1422 addresses in dot format (mmm.nnn.ooo.ppp) to the
1423 32-bit format, since it will not work for IPv6
1424 addresses.
1425 - New "Classification" directive to force labeling of
1426 the current classification on each page.
1427 - New "page-label" attribute to add per-page labels
1428 ("For Official Use Only", "Draft", etc.)
1429 - The scheduler now sets the HTTPS environment variable
1430 for CGI programs when a client connects using
1431 encryption.
1432 - Fixed a recursion bug in the scheduler that could
1433 cause cupsd to crash when a printer was removed.
1434 - The LPDEST and PRINTER environment variables didn't
1435 support instances.
1436 - Dropped the "file" backend from the device list that
1437 is reported, since it is only available for *testing*
1438 and should never be used in a production environment.
1439 The file: device can still be used, but it won't show
1440 up in the list of devices from lpinfo or the web
1441 interface.
1442 - Added support for /dev/lpa# parallel ports under *BSD.
1443 - Added META variables to the CGI header template to
1444 prevent caching of the results.
1445 - Fixed an unaligned memory buffer for the pstoraster
1446 clist states; this caused bus errors for some
1447 combinations of printers, drivers, and options.
1448 - Re-added black reduction for colorful colors; this
1449 helps to prevent dark colors from getting desaturated.
1450 (only used when converting RGB to CMYK)
1451 - Added two new directives - MaxJobsPerPrinter and
1452 MaxJobsPerUser - to allow an administrator to set
1453 the maximum number of pending jobs in a queue or
1454 submitted by a user.
1455 - The scheduler no longer stops a printer if it can't
1456 create the status pipe or run the filters or backend.
1457 This will allow heavily loaded servers to service
1458 clients or start print jobs as the load allows.
1459 - Fixed a bug in the Set-Job-Attributes code that could
1460 crash the scheduler (patch from Martin Zielinski)
1461 - cupsSetDests() did not quote option values with
1462 embedded spaces.
1463 - Added support for the Enable-Printer and
1464 Disable-Printer extension operations (same as
1465 CUPS-Accept-Jobs and CUPS-Reject-Jobs.)
1466 - The AppSocket and IPP backends now wait for the print
1467 job to be finished before exiting; this should prevent
1468 the loss of print jobs with older JetDirect firmware
1469 and make consecutive print jobs print faster.
1470 - The BMP loading code did not handle resolution values
1471 of 0. This is a problem with BMP image files produced
1472 by the GIMP.
1473 - The HTTP Upgrade code (upgrade to TLS encryption)
1474 bypassed the authentication checks.
1475 - The HTTP Upgrade code did not send a 426 status code
1476 to the client and end the current request. This caused
1477 a race condition between the client and server for the
1478 upgrade to TLS.
1479 - Fixed a bug in the EOF and Trailer detection code in
1480 the pstops filter.
1481 - The imagetoraster filter did not add the margins to
1482 the custom page size in the raster header.
1483 - The imagetops filter did not adjust the custom page
1484 size to the size of the printed image.
1485 - The imagetops filter did not include DSC comments
1486 which are required by some printers.
1487 - The imagetops filter did not insert newlines in
1488 Base85 encoded output, causing files to contain
1489 lines longer than 255 characters (violation of the
1490 DSC).
1491 - Added support for the DeskJet 900 series duplexer
1492 and CRET color modes in the HP driver.
1493 - Added support for PPD-defined margins in the HP
1494 driver.
1495 - Fixed the debugging output from pstoraster - the
1496 font list was not terminated by a newline.
1497 - Some versions of the HP-UX pam_unix authentication
1498 module apparently do not pass the appdata_ptr argument
1499 to the conversation function, preventing the scheduler
1500 from authenticating users using PAM under HP-UX. A
1501 workaround using a static variable has been added to
1502 address this problem.
1503 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler SortPrinters() function
1504 that could cause printers to disappear or the
1505 scheduler to crash when adding a printer.
1506 - Changed the pstops filter to not do per-page filtering
1507 if the file does not conform to at least version 3.0
1508 of the document structuring conventions. This seems
1509 to "fix" printing with broken apps.
1510 - The image filters did not handle older TIFF files that
1511 lacked the samples-per-pixel and bits-per-pixel tags.
1512 - Added new cupsGetJobs() and cupsFreeJobs() functions
1513 to manage print jobs.
1514 - cupsEncodeOptions() would encode names of 0 length and
1515 cupsAddOption() and cupsParseOptions() would add names
1516 of 0 length.
1517 - The scheduler might block waiting for status messages
1518 after starting a new print job. Thanks to Florent
1519 Guiliani for finding this bug!
1520
1521
1522CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-3
1523
1524 - The configure script put the JPEG library before the
1525 TIFF library; this caused problems in some
1526 configurations since the TIFF library also supports
1527 JPEG compression of TIFF images.
1528 - Updated the configure script and makefiles to handle
1529 admin man pages with the "1m" extension (HP-UX, IRIX,
1530 Solaris, Tru64) and in odd directories (IRIX)
1531 - The updated cupsTempFile() function did not return
1532 the filename when called with a filename buffer of
1533 NULL (previously it used a static buffer.)
1534 - FreeBSD uses /dev/unlptN, but NetBSD and OpenBSD use
1535 /dev/ulptN.
1536 - DeletePrinter() didn't remove the printer from any
1537 classes it was a member of.
1538 - DeletePrinterFromClass() didn't preserve the
1539 implicit status of a class.
1540 - DeletePrinterFromClasses() didn't remove printers
1541 from implicit classes.
1542 - StartJob() didn't send the job-sheets, job-priority,
1543 and job-hold-until attributes to remote printers.
1544 - LoadAllJobs() was looking for job-sheets-completed
1545 instead of job-media-sheets-completed. This would
1546 prevent accumulation of page data after a restart
1547 of the scheduler.
1548 - The pstops and imagetops filters now generate copies
1549 using the appropriate method for a Level 1, 2, or 3
1550 printer since some Level 2/3 printers don't support
1551 the /#copies variable anymore.
1552 - The man page for cups-lpd did not mention the "-o"
1553 option.
1554 - The IPP backend didn't handle version-not-supported
1555 errors and revert to IPP/1.0 (previously it only checked
1556 for a bad-request error)
1557 - Caldera fix: lpc now reports unimplemented commands as
1558 unimplemented, not invalid.
1559 - Caldera fix: lpq didn't recognize BSD lpq "-a" option.
1560 - Caldera fix: lpr didn't recognize BSD lpr "-1", "-2",
1561 "-3", "-4", "-q", or "-U" options.
1562 - RedHat fixes: patches to GNU Ghostscript
1563 - SuSE fix: temp file creation patch to GNU Ghostscript
1564 (pstoraster).
1565 - SuSE fix: remove cgi-bin/abort.c and cgi-bin/email.c,
1566 which are not used.
1567 - SuSE fix: missing NULL check in cgi_initialize_post().
1568 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in
1569 cgi_initialize_string().
1570 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in
1571 ippSetCGIVars()
1572 - SuSE fix: more NULL checks in ppdOpen(); also make
1573 sure that all memory is freed on error to avoid memory
1574 leaks.
1575 - SuSE fix: Exit from child if setgid() or setuid()
1576 fails.
1577 - SuSE fix: Added setgroups() calls after setgid() and
1578 setuid() calls.
1579 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in httpEncode64()
1580 calls.
1581 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in httpSeparate()
1582 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in ippWrite() for
1583 bad input.
1584 - SuSE fix: potential nul skip in ppd_decode() for
1585 missing hex digits.
1586
1587
1588CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-2
1589
1590 - Added changes to support NetBSD startup scripts.
1591 - Added separate compiler options for pstoraster
1592 (Ghostscript) to avoid compiler-induced errors
1593 from Ghostscript's twisted code.
1594 - The mime.types file contained syntax errors.
1595 - Updated the *BSD USB device filenames to use
1596 the /dev/unlptN files so that the USB device
1597 is not reset prior to printing (causes print
1598 corruption on many printers)
1599 - Added new cupsTempFd() function to avoid serious
1600 security bug in glibc fopen() function. The glibc
1601 fopen() function unlinks a file before creating it,
1602 which opens up possible symlink attacks.
1603 - Now reject 0-length names in add-printer and add-class
1604 requests.
1605 - Fix for pstoraster when ZLIB is not available.
1606 - cupsGetPPD() didn't reconnect when a HTTP connection
1607 was lost.
1608 - SuSE fix: httpConnect() didn't check that the
1609 value from gethostbyname() was a valid IPv4 address.
1610 - SuSE fix: httpConnect() didn't allow file descriptor 0
1611 to be used for a socket.
1612 - SuSE fix: ippRead() didn't confirm that all values in
1613 a set were numeric or string types.
1614 - SuSE fix: lppasswd race condition fixes.
1615 - SuSE fix: directive names could overflow buffer when
1616 reading *.conf files.
1617 - SuSE fix: HEAD requests for PPD files did not use the
1618 same logic as GET requests.
1619 - SuSE fix: possible buffer overflow when adding
1620 /index.html to requested directory name.
1621 - SuSE fix: possible buffer overflow when converting
1622 IPP attributes to string options for filters.
1623 - SuSE fix: creating file: device output with mode 0666
1624 instead of mode 0600.
1625 - SuSE fix: creating job info files with mode 0640
1626 instead of 0600.
1627 - SuSE fix: don't rely on snprintf() for including
1628 system name in log filenames.
1629 - SuSE fix: add bounds checking when copying quoted
1630 and hex strings.
1631
1632
1633CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-1
1634
1635 - Added configure check for getting the correct
1636 strftime() format string; %c is not Y2k safe,
1637 and %KC and NULL are not universally supported.
1638
1639
1640CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6
1641
1642 - Fixed another possible DoS attack in httpGets()
1643 - Added check for "LANGUAGE = PCL" and "LANGUAGE =
1644 POSTSCRIPT" in mime.types.
1645 - Resolution options were not being passed into the
1646 filter programs properly.
1647 - The default compiler options for GCC no longer include
1648 "-g3", which apparently is deprecated in newer
1649 versions of GCC.
1650 - CheckJobs() could cause cupsd to crash if a job is
1651 cancelled in StartJob().
1652 - The printers.conf and classes.conf files are now
1653 written with restricted permissions.
1654 - The round-robin algorithm used by FindAvailablePrinter()
1655 had problems; fixes contributed by Joel Fredrikson.
1656 - If LoadAllJobs() is unable to determine the file type
1657 of a print job, assume "application/vnd.cups-raw".
1658 - The web interface now provides a job_printer_name
1659 value for any corresponding job_printer_uri value.
1660 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now logs the client address
1661 and hostname as well as all commands and errors in the
1662 syslog file.
1663 - The IPP backend now detects the supported file formats
1664 and only specifies the document format if it is
1665 supported. This makes IPP printing to network print
1666 servers and cards more reliable without affecting the
1667 capabilities of CUPS servers.
1668 - The time_at_xyz attributes are now converted to human-
1669 readable dates and times for the web interfaces.
1670 - The HP and EPSON sample drivers now correctly catch
1671 signals and eject the current page when a job is
1672 cancelled.
1673 - Fixed bug in CGI code - did not ignore control
1674 characters (e.g. newlines) in form data. This caused
1675 sporatic web interface problems.
1676 - The file type logging code in the scheduler referenced
1677 the optional document-format attribute; the new code
1678 uses the resolved MIME type instead.
1679 - The client.conf parsing code now removes trailing
1680 whitespace.
1681 - The MaxJobs directive was being treated as a boolean
1682 instead of an integer.
1683 - The scheduler would not timeout remote printers if
1684 BrowseInterval was set to 0.
1685 - The lpadmin command now supports setting of options
1686 and user-level access control.
1687 - Added "-E" option to all printing commands to force
1688 encryption.
1689 - The client code did not consume the response to the
1690 OPTIONS request when switching to secure mode.
1691 - The scheduler did not output a Content-Length field
1692 when responding to an OPTIONS request.
1693 - Added documentation on using cups-lpd with xinetd
1694 to the man page.
1695 - The socket backend now starts retries at 5 seconds and
1696 increases the interval to 30 seconds. This should
1697 provide faster printing when multiple jobs/files are
1698 queued for a printer.
1699 - The filters and backends no longer buffer output to
1700 stderr. This should provide much more accurate status
1701 reporting.
1702
1703
1704CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5-2
1705
1706 - Fixed configure check for OpenSSL to work with RSA
1707 code.
1708 - Added configure check for <sys/ioctl.h>, and use this
1709 check in backend/serial.c.
1710 - Updated configure script handling of data,
1711 configuration, and state directories to use datadir,
1712 sysconfdir, and localstatedir variables.
1713 - NetBSD uses different serial port filenames than
1714 FreeBSD and OpenBSD.
1715 - The pdftops filter didn't need some X-specific files.
1716 - The scheduler makefile doesn't do a chown anymore when
1717 installing (cupsd did this automatically on startup
1718 anyways)
1719
1720
1721CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5-1
1722
1723 - There was a typo in the top-level Makefile
1724 - The top-level Makefile did not install an init script
1725 for run level 5.
1726 - The configure script did not add the "crypto" library
1727 when checking for the OpenSSL library.
1728 - The OKIDATA PPD files were missing.
1729 - The config.h.in file defined the wrong version number.
1730 - The serial backend did not define "funky_hex" under *BSD.
1731 - Updated the Visual C++ project files and some of the
1732 CUPS API sources to compile under Windows again.
1733
1734
1735CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5
1736
1737 - Security updates - new default configuration does
1738 not broadcast printer information and only allows
1739 access from the local system.
1740 - EXPERIMENTAL encryption support - CUPS now optionally
1741 supports TLS/SSL encryption via the OpenSSL library.
1742 - Documentation updates.
1743 - Makefile/configure script updates.
1744 - The RPM spec file didn't work out-of-the-box under
1745 RedHat or Mandrake.
1746 - Minor code cleanup to remove extraneous compiler
1747 warnings.
1748 - cupsTempFile() was using %p for the temporary
1749 filename; this should have been %08x (just 8 digit
1750 hex)
1751 - Deleting a printer with active print jobs would still
1752 crash the server.
1753 - ippWrite() and ipp_write_file() didn't send the
1754 correct value length for name-with-language and
1755 text-with-language attributes.
1756 - Updated IPP code to support copied strings (that
1757 should not be freed); this provides slightly more
1758 efficient IPP server performance.
1759 - Updated PDF filter to Xpdf 0.91.
1760 - httpGets() could go into an infinite loop if a line
1761 longer than the input buffer size was sent by a
1762 client. This could be used in a Denial-of-Service
1763 attack.
1764 - The lpstat and CUPS API functions now request only the
1765 data required when getting the list of printer or
1766 class information. This should improve performance
1767 with large numbers of printers on slower machines.
1768 - The scheduler was always enforcing the FilterLimit,
1769 even if FilterLimit was set to 0.
1770 - Updated the Linux USB backend to support Mandrake's
1771 /dev/usb/usblp# filenames.
1772 - The PRINTER and LPDEST environment variables did not
1773 override the lpoptions default printer.
1774 - The PPD read functions incorrectly included trailing
1775 characters (usually whitespace) after quoted string
1776 attributes.
1777 - The multiple-document-handling attribute handling code
1778 did not check for the correct value for collated
1779 copies (separate-documents-uncollated-copies).
1780 - The EPSON driver did not work with OKIDATA printers in
1781 EPSON emulation mode (needed change-emulation command)
1782 - The HP-GL/2 filter did not scale the plot properly in
1783 scale mode 2.
1784 - Added PPD files for 9-pin and 24-pin OKIDATA printers.
1785 - The httpSeparate() function didn't handle passwords
1786 that started with a number.
1787 - ippDelete() could free the character set string
1788 multiple times in name-with-language and
1789 text-with-language attributes.
1790 - The scheduler would access freed memory right after
1791 freeing it (for debug messages); these parts of the
1792 code have been reordered to avoid this situation
1793 which was causing sporatic errors and crashes.
1794 - The ppdClose() function didn't free all of the strings
1795 in the ppd_file_t structure.
1796 - The LoadAllJobs() function in the scheduler did not
1797 close the spool directory.
1798 - Changed all sprintf's that use string formats to
1799 snprintf's, even if the destination buffer is
1800 larger than the source string(s); this protects
1801 against buffer overflows caused outside of CUPS...
1802 - Changed all strcpy's to strncpy's between local and
1803 global variables, even if the destination buffer is
1804 larger than the source string; this protects
1805 against buffer overflows caused outside of CUPS...
1806 - The CUPS certificate functions didn't use the
1807 CUPS_SERVERROOT environment variable when set.
1808 - The directory services code was copying instead of
1809 comparing the remote printer info, resulting in
1810 unnecessary updates of the printer attributes for
1811 remote printers.
1812 - Added new mime.types rules to allow automatic raw
1813 printing of PCL and ESC/P files; PJL headers are
1814 parsed to differentiate between PostScript and
1815 PCL job files. This should eliminate a lot of
1816 the reports of SAMBA printing problems due to
1817 the missing "-oraw" or "-l" options.
1818 - The mimeLoadType() function didn't handle the
1819 3-argument contains() function.
1820 - The LoadPPDs() function in the scheduler didn't
1821 properly set the alloc_ppds variable or handle a PPD
1822 database containing 0 printers.
1823 - The scheduler FindAvailablePrinter() function didn't
1824 use the same queuing logic as the CheckJobs()
1825 function. This caused classes to stall if a remote
1826 printer was always busy.
1827 - Jobs are now assigned to printers in a class
1828 round-robin style. This should prevent the first
1829 server in the class from bearing the brunt of the
1830 jobs.
1831 - The scheduler's LoadAllJobs() function didn't always
1832 restore remote printers for queued jobs on startup.
1833 - The serial backend didn't support the higher baud
1834 rates with the old termios interface. It now supports
1835 57600 and 115200 baud.
1836 - The serial backend now supports different types of
1837 flow control; previously it ignored the flow=XYZ
1838 option in the device URI.
1839 - The serial backend now supports DTR/DSR flow control,
1840 which is popular on dot-matrix printers (access with
1841 "flow=dtrdsr" in the device URI)
1842 - Added new job-originating-host-name attribute for
1843 jobs. The new attribute provides the hostname or
1844 IP address of the machine that submitted the job.
1845 - The set-job-attributes code no longer allows read-only
1846 job attributes to be changed.
1847 - Expanded the click area for the navigation bar in the
1848 web interface.
1849 - Updated the lp and cancel commands to support all of
1850 the Solaris print options (some are simply ignored
1851 since they do not map)
1852 - Updated the scheduler to limit the number of file
1853 descriptors to the maximum select() set size. This
1854 was causing problems on Solaris systems where the
1855 max FD count was increased beyond 1024.
1856 - The scheduler's LoadDevices() function was getting
1857 interrupted by the SIGCHLD signal handler; now ignore
1858 child signals while loading devices.
1859 - Added quota and allow/deny user support for printers
1860 and classes.
1861 - Removed black/CMY adjustment code from the PS and
1862 image file RIPs; it was interfering with some CUPS
1863 driver dithering code.
1864 - The lpc program stopped listing the queue statuses
1865 after the first active printer.
1866 - The cups-lpd program used an output format that the
1867 Solaris printing system did not understand.
1868 - Updated the lpq program to use the Solaris format
1869 except under Tru64 UNIX.
1870 - Some DEC PPD files incorrectly use "Off" for the null
1871 value in UI constraints. Added "Off" to the list of
1872 accepted null values.
1873 - Changed the *BSD define constants to __*BSD__ in all
1874 of the backends.
1875 - Added support for "lpstat printername", which is an
1876 undocumented feature in Solaris.
1877 - The HP-GL/2 filter now only sets the plot size if it
1878 is set in the plot file.
1879 - The lpmove command wasn't sending the requesting
1880 user name, causing it to always fail.
1881 - Updated the cupsTempFile() code to use GetTempPath()
1882 under Windows.
1883 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon didn't limit the number of
1884 data files accepted, didn't use cupsTempFile(),
1885 didn't handle control file job information in any
1886 order, and didn't free job options after printing
1887 a file.
1888 - The scheduler copy_banner() function did not
1889 explicitly set the owner and permissions of the banner
1890 files, which could prevent the banner pages from
1891 printing on some systems.
1892 - The lpstat program wasn't listing remote classes.
1893 - The scheduler did not verify that the printer-uri
1894 attribute was specified in all requests that required
1895 it.
1896
1897
1898CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.4
1899
1900 - Makefile and configure script fixes.
1901 - **** Changed the default Printcap setting **** to
1902 /etc/printcap. There are just too many people asking
1903 why application XYZ doesn't see their printers!
1904 - The web admin interface now displays an error if it
1905 can't get the list of printer drivers from cupsd.
1906 - The IPP backend was putting the copies option before
1907 the other job options were set. This caused the IPP
1908 request to contain attribute groups in the wrong
1909 order, which prevented remote printing.
1910 - Added checks in scheduler to free memory used for
1911 IPP requests and language information when closing
1912 a client connection.
1913 - Fixed the duplex option in the HP LaserJet driver. It
1914 should now work with all LaserJet printers (and
1915 compatibles)
1916 - The add-printer web interface didn't initialize the
1917 "old info" data pointer, which caused random crashes
1918 on many OS's.
1919 - Fixed many page sizes defined in the Level 1
1920 compatibility file "gs_statd.ps" to match reality.
1921 - Fixed another bug in the setpagedevice "code" in
1922 Ghostscript. It should now accept all standard
1923 Adobe attributes on all platforms.
1924 - Fixed pstoraster so that it reallocates memory for
1925 color depth changes as well as size/resolution
1926 changes. This removes an ordering constraint on
1927 the color, page size, and resolution options in
1928 PPD files.
1929 - The IPP backend didn't use the job's character set
1930 when the destination printer supported it. This
1931 caused problems when printing text files to other
1932 CUPS servers.
1933 - Updated the logic used to determine when to rebuild
1934 the PPD file database. The scheduler now checks the
1935 dates and the number of PPD files (was just checking
1936 the dates.)
1937 - Updated the ippSetCGIVars() function (used by the
1938 web interfaces) to only filter valid string values.
1939 - The PostScript filter was scaling 2-up pages
1940 incorrectly. This caused the edges of some pages to
1941 be clipped.
1942
1943
1944CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.3
1945
1946 - Makefile fixes.
1947 - RPM spec file changes.
1948 - Documentation updates.
1949 - Enabled pstoraster debug messages for everything
1950 (only logged when LogLevel set to "debug"...)
1951 - Changed the Input/OutputAttributes fix in
1952 pstoraster so that it works on all platforms.
1953 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't set the right green
1954 color value in encoded polylines or text.
1955 - Updated the "fitplot" code to handle plot sizes
1956 specified as "PSwidth,length" and "PSlength,width".
1957 - Updated the Linux parallel and USB backends to open
1958 the device files prior to looking in /proc for
1959 autoprobe info. This makes sure that loadable device
1960 driver modules are in fact loaded...
1961 - Added new FilterLimit directive to limit the number
1962 of processing jobs/filters on a system.
1963 - set-job-attributes didn't change the job-state to
1964 held/pending when the job-hold-until attribute was
1965 specified.
1966 - set-job-attributes didn't save the new job attributes.
1967 - Now change the "requesting-user-name" attribute in
1968 requests from remote systems to "remroot" when an
1969 unauthenticated "root" user is sent. This can be
1970 changed using the new RemoteRoot directive in
1971 cupsd.conf.
1972 - The cancel-job, hold-job, release-job, and restart-job
1973 operations didn't log the authenticated username.
1974 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now checks for a
1975 document-format option before forcing raw mode with
1976 filter mode 'l'.
1977 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now supports "-o" options
1978 on the command-line (passed by inetd) to set global
1979 defaults for all print queues.
1980 - The pstops filter assumed that a file with a Trailer
1981 comment would also have an EOF comment.
1982 - Added new cupsSetPasswordCB(), cupsSetServer(),
1983 cupsSetUser(), and ippSetPort() functions to better
1984 support client applications (especially GUIs...)
1985 - The CUPS-add-class and CUPS-add-printer operations
1986 didn't reset the printer-name attribute on remote
1987 print queues that had to be renamed when a local
1988 printer was defined with the same name.
1989 - The lpoptions command now supports a "-r" option to
1990 remove options for a printer or instance.
1991 - The lpadmin and admin.cgi programs no longer allow
1992 class and printer names to begin with a number; this
1993 caused the command-line utilities to become confused.
1994 - The Linux USB backend now looks for both the parallel
1995 and usblp driver names in the device list.
1996 - Added a new FontPath directive to cupsd.conf, and also
1997 a "--with-fontpath" option for the configure script to
1998 specify alternate font paths for pstoraster.
1999 - The CUPS-move-job operation didn't update the
2000 job-printer-uri attribute.
2001 - The scheduler only looked up printers and classes by
2002 name in IPP requests, instead of using the full URI.
2003 This caused problems with KUPS and friends with
2004 remote printers.
2005 - The scheduler now handles better localization of
2006 hostnames (e.g. server is host.foo.com, remote is
2007 host.subfoo.foo.com, localized is not host.subfoo...)
2008 - The scheduler logging functions now use a common
2009 log file checking/rotation function (courtesy of
2010 Crutcher Dunnavant at Red Hat)
2011 - The scheduler could accept more client connections
2012 than it allocated for if more than one Port or Listen
2013 line was present in cupsd.conf.
2014 - Other minor scheduler performance tweeks.
2015 - The lpq and lprm commands didn't support the default
2016 printer set using lpoptions.
2017 - The lpoptions command now supports a "-l" option to
2018 list the printer-specific options and their current
2019 settings.
2020 - The web printer and class lists now show a link to the
2021 default printer or class at the top of the page.
2022 - The text filter now supports pretty printing of shell
2023 and perl scripts as well as C/C++ source files.
2024 - The top and bottom margins were reversed for landscape
2025 text printing.
2026 - The lpq and lprm commands didn't understand printer
2027 instances.
2028 - The scheduler only selected on the first 100 file
2029 descriptors instead of the maximum file descriptor
2030 limit.
2031 - The scheduler client, listener, and mainline functions
2032 now share code to disable and enable monitoring for
2033 new client connections.
2034 - The imagetoraster filter didn't support all of the
2035 required pagedevice parameters.
2036 - The serial backend now checks for 100 serial ports
2037 under Linux.
2038 - The scheduler used sscanf() to pull out the remote
2039 printer location, description, and make/model strings,
2040 but if any of these options was empty then sscanf()
2041 would stop processing.
2042 - Added "debug2" log level to provide a little less
2043 verbose debugging information at the "debug" level.
2044 - The scheduler would crash if you stopped a printer
2045 that was currently printing a job.
2046 - The scheduler incorrectly allowed jobs in the cancelled,
2047 aborted, or completed state to be cancelled.
2048 - The image filters did not load TIFF images properly
2049 for bottom-to-top and right-to-left orientations.
2050 - Added new cupsEncodeOptions() function to encode
2051 CUPS options as IPP job attributes.
2052 - The IPP backend, LPD mini-daemon, client commands,
2053 and CUPS API did not properly encode multiple
2054 option values separated by commas.
2055 - Added new scheduler malloc logging in debug mode
2056 (provides summary of total arena size, allocated,
2057 and free bytes once a minute)
2058 - The EPM-based distributions didn't install the
2059 correct symlinks for a few man pages.
2060 - Fixed a memory leak in the scheduler - wasn't
2061 freeing old filters when deleting or renaming
2062 printers.
2063 - The scheduler now queries the primary IP address
2064 for the name of the server and maps any incoming
2065 requests from that address to the server name.
2066 This fixes web admin mapping problems from
2067 server.domain.com to localhost.
2068 - The web printer modify interface now remembers
2069 the previous device and driver settings (except
2070 for serial ports.)
2071 - The job-k-octets attribute is now stored as part of
2072 the job attributes; this preserves the information
2073 after a job is completed when job file history is
2074 turned off.
2075 - Dropped option sub-group parsing code for the moment,
2076 since many Xerox PPD files abuse this feature in PPD
2077 files and don't follow the hierarchy rules.
2078 - Added new wrapper code around options so that duplex
2079 options for some HP printers don't prevent prints.
2080 - Added support for Digital UNIX/Tru64 UNIX/OSF/1 format
2081 for "lpstat -v" output.
2082 - Now show the URI for remote printers instead of
2083 /dev/null in "lpstat -v" output.
2084 - Creating classes and adding printers to a class with
2085 the lpadmin command didn't work.
2086 - The banner pages and test page should now format
2087 correctly in both portrait and landscape orientations.
2088 - Updated banner page substitution so that { can appear
2089 by itself without quoting.
2090
2091
2092CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.2
2093
2094 - Makefile/configure fixes
2095 - RPM spec file and EPM list file fixes
2096 - The cupsTempFile() function now uses a different
2097 algorithm for generating temp files and "reserves"
2098 them to avoid possible security exploitation.
2099 - Now use /dev/random (if available) to seed the random
2100 number generator for certificates.
2101 - The /var/spool/cups and /var/spool/cups/tmp directories
2102 were incorrectly owned by root; they are now owned by
2103 the filter user, typically "lp".
2104 - The scheduler now resets the permissions on the spool
2105 and temp directories as needed to match the filter
2106 user.
2107 - Now expose ppdCollect() as an externally callable
2108 function.
2109 - The image filters now support filtering from the
2110 standard input.
2111 - The imagetoraster filter now collects all printer
2112 options and job patch files and applies them to the
2113 page header as needed.
2114 - Added format and banner options to LPD backend.
2115 - The send-document operation didn't start a job
2116 immediately when last-document was true.
2117 - The set-job-attributes operation didn't correctly
2118 replace the current job-hold-until value.
2119 - Removed the option wrapper code from ppdEmit() and
2120 friends since it caused problems with Ghostscript
2121 and many PS printers.
2122 - Was setting TZ environment variable twice for job
2123 filters.
2124 - Added syslog logging in cups-lpd to aide in
2125 debugging problems.
2126 - The HP-UX parallel port backend did not list the
2127 available parallel ports on some systems (printf
2128 calling problem...)
2129 - The lp and lpr commands overrode user options if
2130 -d/-P were specified after -o.
2131 - The scheduler would crash with a */* filter.
2132 - Added support for a "default" filter for unknown file
2133 types. The example provided in the mime.types and
2134 mime.convs file prints unknown files as if "-oraw" was
2135 specified for the job. This functionality is disabled
2136 by default.
2137 - The "compatibility" mode fix for older backends did not
2138 work for smbspool. Added a workaround for it.
2139 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't perform the right pen scaling
2140 with some files and the "fitplot" option.
2141 - New Software Performance Specification document that
2142 describes the memory, disk, and CPU usage of all the
2143 CUPS software.
2144
2145
2146CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.1
2147
2148 - The pstoraster Makefile still referenced one of the
2149 old PDF filter files.
2150 - The filter Makefile used INSTALL_DATA instead of
2151 INSTALL_LIB to install the CUPS image library.
2152 - The administration CGI didn't work properly with
2153 network devices.
2154 - The BrowseACL variable was not updated after the
2155 cupsd.conf file was loaded.
2156 - The lpd mini-daemon didn't support printer instances.
2157 - Now use a default umask of 077 for child processes.
2158 - Now put temp files in /var/spool/cups/tmp for child
2159 processes and the root user, unless TMPDIR or TempDir
2160 is defined otherwise.
2161 - cupsGetPPD() no longer uses easy-to-guess filenames.
2162 - The CUPS-Delete-Class and CUPS-Delete-Printer
2163 operations now save classes.conf file as needed.
2164 - The lppasswd command wouldn't add a user.
2165 - The ppdOpen() function could cause a segfault if a
2166 0-length PPD file was read.
2167 - The image filters were not handling images with
2168 different X and Y resolutions properly.
2169 - The imagetoraster filter defaulted to RGB output
2170 instead of black output like pstoraster.
2171 - The pstops filter didn't handle binary data properly.
2172 - The pstops filter didn't handle copies properly for
2173 PS files lacking DSC comments.
2174 - The pstops filter now appends %%EOF to the end of
2175 documents if they don't have it.
2176 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't work with remote
2177 printers lacking the @server in the name.
2178 - The configure script didn't work right when only
2179 --prefix was specified.
2180 - The ppdEmit() code now wraps all printer commands so
2181 that buggy PostScript printers will still print a file
2182 after receiving an option that isn't available.
2183 - Fixed the DeskJet margin bug, and disabled 600dpi
2184 color mode until it can be fixed.
2185 - The cupsAddDest() function didn't sort instances
2186 correctly in all cases.
2187 - The time-at-xyz attributes now expand to the date and
2188 time in banner files.
2189
2190
2191CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1
2192
2193 - Documentation updates.
2194 - Configuration script updates.
2195 - Didn't map charset and language value strings to lowercase
2196 and _ to - as required by SLP and IPP.
2197 - ppdLoadXYZ() didn't add the list of available fonts to the
2198 ppd_file_t structure.
2199 - The text filter common code was freeing the PPD file data
2200 before it was used.
2201 - The text filter now embeds missing fonts.
2202 - The CGI interface now maps local access to the server to
2203 the localhost address.
2204 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't use the specified (or default)
2205 color ranges, resulting in strange colors.
2206 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't default to no input window, which
2207 caused unnecessary clipping of plots.
2208 - Integrated Xpdf's pdftops filter into CUPS, which is a
2209 lightweight and reliable replacement for Ghostscript's
2210 PDF support.
2211 - Removed all PDF support from Ghostscript.
2212 - Updated HP driver to set top margin; this seems to fix
2213 the offset problem seen on HP DeskJet printers.
2214 - Fixed dependencies on the ZLIB and JPEG libraries in
2215 pstoraster.
2216 - The lpr command wasn't using the lpoptions defined by
2217 the user.
2218 - The lpr command would segfault if the CUPS server was
2219 not running.
2220 - The top-level makefile was not installing the CUPS
2221 initialization script. It now does so if it sees there
2222 is an init.d directory in /sbin, /etc/rc.d, or /etc.
2223 - "lpstat -v all" didn't work.
2224 - pstoraster would crash on some platforms doing the
2225 setpagedevice operator.
2226 - The web administration interface now allows you to set
2227 the default banner pages.
2228 - Images can now be positioned on the page using the new
2229 "position" option.
2230 - The AccessLog, ErrorLog, and PageLog directives now
2231 support "%s" to insert the server name.
2232 - Added a new BrowseShortNames directive to allow for
2233 short remote printer names ("printer" instead of
2234 "printer@server") when possible.
2235 - The scheduler could crash if given an invalid PPD file
2236 with no PageSize attributes.
2237 - Updated the serial, parallel, and usb backends to do
2238 multiple writes and ignore ioctl() errors as needed;
2239 this should fix problems with serial printing on old
2240 serial drivers and with the UltraSPARC parallel port
2241 driver under Solaris 2.7.
2242 - Now propagate LD_LIBRARY_PATH to child processes from
2243 cupsd.
2244 - New DataDir directive for installing in alternate
2245 locations.
2246 - New CUPS_SERVERROOT and CUPS_DATADIR environment
2247 variables to specify installation directories as
2248 needed.
2249 - Queued remote jobs recreate remote printers as needed
2250 when the scheduler is started.
2251 - Deleting a printer also purges all jobs on that
2252 printer.
2253 - Old job and control files that don't belong to a
2254 printer are automatically deleted.
2255 - Wasn't updating time-at-processing and
2256 time-at-completed attributes in job.
2257 - Didn't send required multiple-operation-time-out
2258 attribute in response to a get-printer-attributes
2259 request.
2260 - cups-lpd now supports options set with lpoptions.
2261 - The job-hold-until attribute is now provided with all
2262 jobs. For jobs that are not currently held the value
2263 is "no-hold".
2264 - The scheduler was not sending "unknown" values in IPP
2265 responses.
2266 - The lpoptions command now accumulates options from
2267 previous runs rather than replacing all options for a
2268 printer.
2269 - The IPP backend now switches to IPP/1.0 if a 1.1
2270 request fails.

2274 received in a POST request.
2275
2276
2277CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1b5
2278

2294 stderr.
2295 - The PostScript filter now added PJL commands to set the
2296 job name and display string, if supported.
2297 - The scheduler would crash if the browse socket could not
2298 be bound. Now disables browsing if port 631 (reserved for
2299 IPP) is being used by a misbehaving daemon.
2300 - The USB backend now looks for the older Linux 2.2.x USB
2301 printer device filenames as well as the newer ones.
2302 - The IPP backend now uses the UTF-8 charset exclusively,
2303 since apparently only CUPS handles more than US-ASCII and
2304 UTF-8...
2305 - Wasn't quoting ( in PostScript banners...
2306 - Send-document requests with no document-format attribute
2307 could cause cupsd to crash.
2308 - Old jobs in the spool directory might cause cupsd to
2309 crash.
2310 - CUPS now supports all of the recommended job-hold-until
2311 keywords as well as name values of the form "HH:MM" and
2312 "HH:MM:SS".
2313 - Added placeholder pointer for TLS encryption to the HTTP
2314 connection structure.
2315 - Fixed the "fast poll" bug reported by DISA - the

2317 - Revamped put_params code in pstoraster to fix bitmap
2318 allocation bug with FrameMaker output.
2319 - Ripped out filename, etc. code from pstoraster as it
2320 is a potential security hole.
2321 - Added support for RIP_CACHE environment variable in the
2322 new pstoraster.

2324 pre-2.4 devices (/dev/usb/lp#) and 2.2 devices
2325 (/dev/usblp#)
2326 - Fixed accept-jobs crash with classes.
2327 - Didn't include dot-matrix EPSON drivers in previous
2328 release.
2329
2330

2332
2333 - Documentation updates.
2334 - Many makefile and configuration script fixes (should
2335 now compile better under *BSD.)
2336 - The MediaPosition attribute was being mishandled by
2337 GhostScript, causing the RIP to fail whenever a paper
2338 tray was selected.
2339 - The scheduler now logs the final line of log information
2340 from a filter, even if it doesn't end with a newline; this
2341 primarily affects GhostScript error output.
2342 - The scheduler was saving implicit classes, so after a few
2343 restarts you'll end up with AnyPrinter, AnyAnyPrinter, etc.
2344 - The JPEG autodetection didn't work with some JPEG files that
2345 came from digital cameras (JPEG but not JFIF); the new
2346 magic types should work with all images that the JPEG library
2347 can handle.
2348 - Fixed a bug in the new contains() MIME type rule that could
2349 cause cupsd to crash.
2350 - Switched to using strtol() in the MIME type code so that you
2351 can use hex, octal, or decimal constants as desired in the
2352 mime.types file.
2353 - Banner files are now treated as templates, allowing any type
2354 of file to be used as a banner.
2355 - Added a 30-second timeout to backend device reports so that a
2356 hung backend will not prevent the scheduler from starting.
2357 - Backends are once again terminated when jobs are stopped; the
2358 CUPS-supplied backends will stay alive until the downstream
2359 filters have had a chance to clear out old page data.
2360 - The charset lookup in the CUPS localization support was wrong
2361 (iso8859-x instead of iso-8859-x)

2374 job-media-sheets-completed attribute.
2375 - The penwidth option is now in micrometers to support more
2376 accurate width specification.

2378 files.
2379 - Didn't handle Keep-Alive for HTTP/1.0 clients.
2380 - The BrowsePoll support didn't handle when BrowseInterval
2381 was set to 0 (now uses 30 seconds if BrowseInterval is 0)
2382 - The DeskJet driver now supports 600 DPI color for printers
2383 that support it.
2384 - New lpinfo and lpmove commands.
2385 - The lpq command now supports the Digital UNIX output format.
2386 - The LPD mini-daemon now supports all required LPD operations.
2387 - Implemented timeouts for multi-file documents.

2389 print multiple files using create-job and send-document
2390 requests (1 job ID for multiple files)
2391 - The lp command now sends multiple files as a single job,
2392 matching the behavior of the System V command.
2393 - The "cancel -a" command now purges job history files.
2394
2395
2396CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1b3
2397
2398 - Documentation updates.
2399 - The startup script redirected stderr before stdout,
2400 which caused problems with some versions of Bourne
2401 shell and Bash.
2402 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler's PPD language reading
2403 code.
2404 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler's check for the

2414 file is generated).
2415 - The scheduler did not start jobs destined for remote
2416 printers when they became available.
2417 - The scheduler now sends jobs to remote printers
2418 immediately. (when sending jobs to a class, the remote
2419 printer is only used when it becomes available)
2420 - The scheduler now supports printing of banner pages
2421 via the job-sheets attribute (banner files go in
2422 /usr/share/cups/banners)
2423 - The cupsd process now forks itself into the background
2424 (override with -f)
2425 - Added several *BSD enhancements.
2426 - Added UNSUPPORTED libtool option to configuration
2427 script to allow the use of libtool. Note that this is
2428 UNSUPPORTED by us, but added by request of the *BSD
2429 folks.
2430 - The parallel, serial, and usb backends now retry the
2431 opening of their ports. This allows multiple print
2432 queues to be associated with a single physical port,
2433 and will allow CUPS to support several types of
2434 parallel port auto-switches in the near future.
2435 - Set-Job-Attributes now supports adding, changing, and
2436 deleting job template attributes, and no longer allows
2437 job-printer-uri to be set (see CUPS-Move-Job)
2438 - Added CUPS-Move-Job operation to support moving of jobs.
2439 - The CGI template functionality now supports multiple
2440 languages (still only have templates for English)
2441 - The CUPS-Get-Printers and CUPS-Get-Classes operations
2442 now support filtering as defined in the IDD.
2443 - The Get-Jobs, CUPS-Get-Printers, and CUPS-Get-Classes
2444 operations no longer limit themselves to 1000 jobs,
