7 MAN5EXT, but none of those were actually defined (STR
8 #147)
20bde6fb 9 - Chunked requests could cause a Denial of Service if
10 the connection is terminated before the first byte of
11 chunk data is sent/received (STR #143)

70
71
af57319f 72CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.19rc5
7f797921 73
1ed20df6 74 - Jobs with banner pages that were printed to implicit
75 classes would get double banner pages for each
76 file/banner in the job (STR #68)
8fa5f1c6 77 - The mime.convs file was missing the filter definition
78 for Windows BMP (image/x-bitmap) files (STR #85)
8fc34542 79 - The scheduler allowed some READ-ONLY job attributes to
80 be set, which could cause the scheduler to fail on the
81 next restart (STR #82)
dd4497dd 82 - The lp and lpr commands did not report when the
83 scheduler was not responding; instead, the user would
84 incorrectly see a "no default destination" error (STR
85 #70)
92498b68 86 - cupsLangGet() could fail on OSX due to a corrupt
87 language preference (STR #78)
92e48f04 88 - Added more checks for HTTP request timeouts.

90 after an open brace when doing attribute substitutions
91 in banner pages (STR #77)
7f797921 92 - The scheduler child might send SIGUSR1 to the parent
93 before the signal handler was installed; this didn't
94 prevent the scheduler from starting but produced an
95 annoying error message (STR #45)
96
97
2e6bce36 98CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.19rc4
3dea040b 99

108 started with a pending job in the queue (STR #35)
3dea040b 109 - The polling daemon allocated an extra localization
110 buffer but did not free it, causing cups-polld to
111 eventually use all available memory (STR #40)
112
113
e309e07a 114CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.19rc3
115
b07e0cc2 116 - The scheduler could get in an infinite loop cancelling
117 jobs using "cancel -u user dest" (STR #48)
118 - The "cancel -u user" command did nothing (it should
119 cancel all jobs on all printers owned by the named
120 user - STR #48)
b01791df 121 - The scheduler would write 0-length job control files
122 (STR #46)
9b2fe6bd 123 - Updated the French man pages (translation provided by
124 Gilles QUERRET)
aa3b74e1 125 - The scheduler would delete all printers from
126 printers.conf if a job was active when a HUP signal
127 was handled (STR #47)
128 - The cups-polld program would leak memory if it was
129 unable to send browse packets to the loopback
130 interface (STR #40)
bb9df75d 131 - The scheduler did not put the
132 job-originating-host-name attribute in the job
133 attributes group.

135 defined by the IPP implementation document.
335b78e9 136 - Scan backends first, PPDs second (STR #37)
3d16d701 137 - Updated the Netatalk documentation in the SAM (STR #38
138 and #39)
254aa207 139 - The test suite sent text files to a non-PS print queue,
140 which requires ESP Ghostscript (provided separately).
141 Now send the JPEG test file (STR #33)
142 - The test suite did not show the estimated disk space
143 requirements (STR #33)
144 - The test suite did not set the MaxLogSize directive to
145 0 to prevent log file rotation (STR #33)
146 - The test suite still setup the old CUPS Ghostscript
147 symlinks (STR #33)
c7985008 148 - The pstops filter did not report the correct number of
149 copies for the page_log file when printing collated
150 copies to a printer that doesn't support them in
151 hardware (STR #32)
3fa35ec0 152 - cupsLangGet() needs to set the CTYPE locale to "C"
153 (POSIX) to avoid erroneous tolower/toupper values (fix
154 suggested by Bjoern Jacke)
380b07e9 155 - Fixed a typo in the cups.list.in file.
e309e07a 156 - Updated all of the Western European locales to default
3fa35ec0 157 to ISO-8859-15 (for Euro support, suggested by Bjoern
158 Jacke)
159 - Updated the German message catalog (update provided by
160 Bjoern Jacke)
e309e07a 161
162
b696f4e3 163CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.19rc2
164
ac098b06 165 - cupsLangGet() now sets the encoding field based on the
166 trailing charset in the locale name, and doesn't look
167 for a message catalog in a specific locale.charset
168 directory. This fixes STR #26 and is more in line
169 with the CUPS 1.2 implementation.
89e75dbd 170 - The configure script now aborts if the "ar" command or
171 compilers cannot be found.
69d2b731 172 - The static cupsimage library was not built by default.
2abcdcaa 173 - The path for the "ln" command was hardcoded in
174 Makedefs.in instead of being checked at configure time
175 (STR #28).
c4885a3a 176 - Banner pages containing unescaped { characters would
177 not work.
c8a55d2c 178 - The printer-state-time collection attribute was
179 encoded as an enumeration instead of an integer.
180 - The printer-is-accepting-jobs collection attribute was
181 was not added to the collection value.
182 - The printer-state-sequence-number collection attribute
183 was not added to the collection value.
d8e1f369 184 - Fixed typo and const mismatch in IPP backend.
185 - Updated the man pages for the new configuration
186 directives.
187 - Updated the SAM for MacOS 10.2, the CUPS drivers for
188 windows, the available LPD backend options, and the
189 new configuration directives.
de8a4f54 190 - The imagetops filter didn't position images properly
191 on the page (STR #18)
f2cdaedc 192 - The configure script didn't add CPPFLAGS to the
193 compiler options or LDFLAGS to the DSO options (STR
194 #13)
b696f4e3 195 - The scheduler would try to write a debug log message
196 when starting a job that contained a NULL string.
197 Since not all versions of snprintf() support NULL
f2cdaedc 198 string pointers this caused some problems (STR #20)
b696f4e3 199 - The testipp program now supports reading of IPP
200 message files such as those used for the job history
201 in /var/spool/cups.
202
203
fc7f6f69 204CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.19rc1
6e3d4276 205
265fb4a4 206 - Added CUPS support files for Java, Perl, and PHP
207 (located in the "scripting" subdirectory...)
53510eae 208 - The scheduler now supports fast-reloads of the
209 cupsd.conf file when it is updated via HTTP.
210 - The scheduler always changed the ownership of log
211 files; it now only does so if they are not in the /dev
212 directory (i.e. don't want to change the ownership and
213 permissions of /dev/null...)
b4f2ed46 214 - Added libpaper support (patch from Jeff Licquia)
4fc54d8c 215 - Added a new istring() rule for MIME types files that
216 does a case-insensitive comparison of strings.
1e6bd2df 217 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now sends jobs to the default
218 queue when an empty queue name (or "lp" and there is
219 no "lp" queue) is sent.
e532393d 220 - The scheduler now supports fax queues identified by a
221 "*cupsFax: True" attribute in the PPD file. When a job
53510eae 222 can't be sent, it is held for 5 minutes by default
223 while other jobs are attempted. The FaxRetryLimit and
224 FaxRetryInterval directives control the number of
225 retries and the time between retries.
0e4f2c25 226 - The scheduler now preserves the default options of PPD
227 files when modifying/upgrading an existing PPD file.
228 When installing a new printer, the scheduler sets the
229 default media size to Letter or A4 as appropriate for
230 your locale.
5073e3f8 231 - The scheduler no longer limits the number of
232 BrowseAddress, BrowsePoll, BrowseRelay, Listen, Port,
233 SSLListen, and SSLPort directives to 10.
d59a189c 234 - The scheduler now supports print files that have been
235 compressed using gzip.
4e43f59e 236 - The scheduler used the stdio functions to read any job
237 ticket information in a PostScript print job. Since
238 some platforms limit the number of stdio files to 256,
239 job ticket information was ignored when the server had
240 a large number of clients connected to the system.
8f4595eb 241 - Filters and backends may now report the total number
242 of pages ("PAGE: total NNN") to the scheduler.
55737cf0 243 - The LPD backend now supports timeout and
244 sanitize_title options (default to 300 and yes,
245 respectively) and has some additional changes to
246 reduce the chances of multiple copies being printed
247 when only one copy was requested.
b5111a23 248 - Fixed a polygon drawing bug in the HP-GL/2 filter.
ded143b8 249 - Added a robots.txt file to the standard install to
250 prevent search engines from indexing the CUPS server.
62bcac22 251 - Added support for STATE: messages
252 (printer-state-reasons), printer-state-history, and
253 printer-state-time to the scheduler.
598aeabc 254 - When using RunAsUser, the scheduler would initially
255 start any previously queued (pending) jobs with
256 RunAsUser disabled - all backends would be running as
257 root.
4d4fb342 258 - If a backend failed for a printer, CUPS would
259 incorrectly requeue the job for printing again.
c3719c59 260 - Added support for IPP collections and files.
3721af07 261 - Added experimental support for generic CGI scripts and
262 programs, Java, Perl, PHP, and Python to the
263 scheduler. See the file "CGI.txt" for more
264 information.
d40085f1 265 - The CUPS API now supports HTTP cookies and the Expect:
266 field.
dd9e85de 267 - The cancel command now correctly supports the "-u
268 user" option to cancel all jobs for the named user.
269 - The Purge-Jobs operation now supports the my-jobs
270 boolean attribute and a new purge-jobs boolean
271 attribute to control whether job history data is
272 purged from the scheduler; the default is false for
273 my-jobs and true for purge-jobs to match the original
274 implementation.
b9e3e9a0 275 - The scheduler would not timeout printers when only
276 using SLP browsing.
a5ba1d82 277 - If the scheduler was unable to execute a filter, it
278 would try to restart the job indefinitely until the
279 filter could be executed.
a9bc43ad 280 - When writing BSD printcap files, the scheduler now
281 includes the rm and rp attributes, allowing the file
282 to be exported to LPD clients. [Patch from Dominic
283 Kubla]
3f2fa036 284 - The scheduler optimization to reference IPP attribute
285 data instead of performing a full copy caused problems
286 when the referenced data was deleted before it was
287 sent. It now only references attributes that change
288 only when the scheduler is restarted. The change also
289 reduced the memory footprint of a printer object to
290 2k.
291 - The scheduler now holds signals while logging messages
292 to avoid potential deadlock issues when handling
293 signals on Solaris 8.
b27fa031 294 - The lpadmin command now allows printer access control
295 by group name as well as user name.
7057d744 296 - "lpoptions -l" got in an infinite loop if no default
297 printer was available.
298 - The scheduler now logs the job-originating-host-name
299 attribute in the page_log file, and uses "-" for any
300 empty fields (patch from Dominik Kubla).
a0db7254 301 - The pdftops filter now scales PDF pages within the
302 printable area of the page.
b43f5fd7 303 - The pstops filter didn't include the page-label and
304 classification boxes when printing EPS or non-
305 conformant PS files.
209d6c49 306 - The imagetops filter didn't always correctly position
307 the image on the page when printing in landscape
308 orientation.
b3291c5a 309 - The ppdEmit() functions now support the
310 RequiresPageRegion attribute when sending InputSlot
311 and ManualFeed commands.
312 - The PPD loading code now supports standard options
313 outside of OpenUI/CloseUI as required by the PPD spec.
43cd52be 314 - The cupstestppd program has been upgraded to provide a
315 concise PASS/FAIL report, additional detailed
316 conformance testing, and support for gzip'd PPD files.
317 - The PPD loading code is now much more strict when
318 loading a PPD file, and tracks more format errors.
5a0aab69 319 - The scheduler ignored child signals when gathering the
320 list of available devices, when it should have been
321 using the default signal handler.
dc249e0d 322 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function could encode an
323 option with a NULL last string.
8b7032be 324 - The socket backend could report the wrong number of
325 backchannel bytes if an error occurred on the link.
33073884 326 - The cups-polld program now only sleeps after getting
327 all printers and classes. This allows for longer
328 intervals without excessive delays before classes show
329 up...
2e32fcdb 330 - Added a new httpWait() function to support waiting for
331 data for a specific number of milliseconds.
332 - httpGets() now times out after 1 second on
333 non-blocking HTTP connections.
bce0c833 334 - The scheduler no longer accepts rangeOfInteger values
335 that are out of order (e.g. 5-1)
336 - The sides attribute was incorrectly sent as a name
337 value; it is a keyword value.
67474245 338 - The IPP backend now detects if the destination queue
339 has gone away and reports an error.
2e32fcdb 340 - The scheduler and HTTP API now allocate their select()
341 sets to support larger numbers of clients on systems
342 that support it.
cc6d5b1e 343 - The scheduler now sets the CFProcessPath environment
344 variable under MacOS X.
345 - The cupsLangDefault() function now uses the
346 CoreFoundation localization API under MacOS X.
f353d925 347 - The httpSeparate() function didn't handle file URIs of
348 the form "file:///path" properly.
b2d75006 349 - The lpadmin command now supports a "protocol" option
350 for specifying the binary communications protocol to
351 use when printing binary PostScript data.
9c4b5e2e 352 - The scheduler did not properly parse the SystemGroup
353 directive, so only the first group would be used.
36992080 354 - Revamped how strings are stored in the scheduler,
355 providing a substantial improvement in memory usage
356 for systems with large numbers of printers.
610e4a98 357 - The PostScript filter now supports binary PostScript
2ddb40fe 358 files and files beginning with the PJL language escape
359 sequence.
49d1718a 360 - The PPD API now provides additional information from
361 the PPD file.
6a35dc4e 362 - The USB backend didn't compile on Solaris Intel.
98c2aef5 363 - The cupstestppd utility now supports the "-q" option
364 (quiet) for use in scripts, etc.
6db7190f 365 - Merged several weight-reducing changes into the CUPS
366 baseline donated by Apple.
dcfcaeac 367 - Added preliminary support for CDSA; patch provided by
368 Apple.
8bd0441f 369 - Implicit classes are now created from identical
370 printer classes on the network.
faa0f7b5 371 - The lp command now supports a "-H restart" option to
372 restart previously printed jobs. This functionality
373 only works if you have enabled the PreserveJobFiles
374 option.
375 - The scheduler now supports URIs in HTTP request lines
376 to conform to the HTTP/1.1 specification.
cb114623 377 - The time-at-xyz attributes were not recognized in
378 banner files if prefixed by a question mark, e.g.
379 "{?time-at-creation}".
a684a3b0 380 - Added support for pre-filtering application/pictwps
381 files on MacOS clients before sending them to a server
382 via IPP.
edd85093 383 - The scheduler now allows file:/dev/null device URIs
384 even if FileDevices is set to No.
7e3ba0af 385 - CUPS uses strerror() for hostname resolution errors,
386 when it should have used hstrerror().
273e40d6 387 - The USB backend no longer tries to guess the serial
388 number of a device from the USB devices file; this
389 means that printers that don't report their serial
390 numbers in the device ID string will not be
391 individually selectable.
d0598693 392 - The pstops filter didn't handle page ranges properly
393 when a page contained an embedded document.
cb114623 394 - Added a translation of the web interface to German.
96eae06b 395 - When printing using the OutputOrder=Reverse option
396 with duplexing, the output order is now truly
397 reversed; the order of sub-pages when printing N-up is
398 the same.
399 - The pstops filter did not always output the extra
400 blank page when printing a document with an odd number
401 of pages with duplexing enabled.
2d850885 402 - The ippAddXYZ functions no longer allow the
403 application to add less than 1 value.
5b28477f 404 - Fixed a URL rewrite bug in the web interface - local
405 access was sometimes redirected away from localhost...
256f3670 406 - The ppdOpen() functions could get in an infinite loop
407 if the PPD file contained a keyword or text that was
408 too large for the buffer.
bcf61448 409 - Added preliminary support for GNU TLS; patch provided
410 by Jeff Licquia.
aea6601a 411 - Now timeout IPP attribute reads after 1 second inside
412 an attribute definition.
de218675 413 - Now timeout connections that have been shutdown (due
414 to errors) after 30 seconds instead of the Timeout
415 setting (300 seconds by default). This provides
416 faster recovery from DoS attacks.
f0ad8cdc 417 - A denial-of-service attack warning message was being
418 written to the log files by the scheduler for every
419 detection. This caused a DoS of its own in some
420 situations. The warning message is now written no more
421 than once per minute.
67fa1315 422 - Fixed the CIE colorspace support code in the image and
423 PS RIPs.
320115a7 424 - The job-quota-period, job-page-limit, and job-k-limit
425 attributes were not flagged as integers, so setting
426 quotas would not work.
6e3d4276 427 - Added an additional response check in the scheduler to
428 more quickly recover from denial-of-service attacks.
429 - The cupstestppd file was incorrectly installed in the
430 /usr/sbin directory instead of /usr/bin.
431 - The EPM list file did not include the cupstestppd
432 program or man page files.
433
434
759f5023 435CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.18
436
e38a7cef 437 - Fixed a bug in the Set-Job-Attributes code in the
438 scheduler that would cause it to crash or continuously
439 write a job control file.
f63a430f 440 - SECURITY FIX: The scheduler now provides a FileDevice
441 directive to control whether new printers can be added
442 using device URIs of the form "file:/filename". The
443 default is to not allow printers with these device
444 URIs.
767ae392 445 - The scheduler did not compute the cost of filters
446 properly, nor did it choose a multi-filter solution
447 with a lower cost than a single filter solution.
00528abb 448 - Now install CUPS PPD file test utility (cupstestppd)
449 to support basic conformance testing of PPD files.
450 - The scheduler now logs an error message when it sees a
451 non-conforming PPD file.
ae65da6c 452 - Upgraded pdftops filter to Xpdf 2.01 with fixes for
453 TrueType fonts.
1060c9b6 454 - Added a MaxClientsPerHost configuration directive to
455 provide limited protection against Denial of Service
456 attacks.
901b295d 457 - SECURITY FIX: Potential underflow/overflow bug in web
458 interface.
459 - SECURITY FIX: Race condition in certificate creation.
460 - SECURITY FIX: Bad URIs in browse packets could be used
461 to exploint the web interface underflow/overflow bug.
901b295d 462 - SECURITY FIX: Some types of Denial of Service attacks
463 were not handled properly, so once the attack was over
464 the scheduler did not close the connections
465 immediately on all platforms.
099f4d77 466 - SECURITY FIXES: Added integer overflow/underflow
467 checks for all image formats.
9c1ee2b9 468 - The pstops filter didn't reset the showpage operator
469 back to its original at the end of a job; this
470 prevented the concatenation of documents (used
471 primarily for CUPS 1.2...)
0e66dba3 472 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't always set the
473 cupsLastError() value when an error occurred.
daeeb91c 474 - The IPP media, output-bin, and sides attributes took
475 precedence over the corresponding PPD options, which
476 caused inconsistent behavior under MacOS X with some
477 PPD files.
dcc2e394 478 - The cupsaddsmb utility specified the wrong number of
479 arguments to the adddriver command when adding the
480 Win9x PostScript drivers.
dd44d54e 481 - The web interface did not always report the correct
482 error message.
759f5023 483 - The scheduler did not clear the POSIX signal action
484 structure when waiting for the child to send it a
485 SIGUSR1 signal; this could cause the signal handler
486 not to be called properly, preventing the parent
487 process from returning.
488
489
3cc7bca4 490CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.17
491
5c826e17 492 - The "manual_copies" option did not work when the LPD
493 backend had to retry a print job.
3c892427 494 - The image filters did not convert GIF images properly.
2d21c1ef 495 - The RunAsUser option was incompatible with the new
496 daemon-mode code in 1.1.16.
2d5e06dd 497 - Fixed a problem with the Set-Job-Attributes and
498 PostScript job ticket code in the scheduler - the
499 "last" attribute pointer was never updated, which
500 could cause the scheduler to crash when applying job
501 ticket data.
502 - Fixed a problem in the scheduler that caused it to
503 continue processing HTTP requests on a connection
504 after it was shutdown.
3d6f3b2b 505 - The scheduler now allows accounts authenticated via
506 PAM to not have a corresponding UNIX account, but
507 group membership still requires the account name to be
508 listed in the UNIX group file(s)...
673d1710 509 - The scheduler used a fixed-size (16k) buffer for
510 encoding job options for filters; it now dynamically
511 allocates and expands the buffer as needed depending
512 on the options that are sent in a job.
8ee2dc56 513 - The pdftops filter didn't support all of the MacOS
514 characters for MacRoman encoded fonts.
a7cc258b 515 - The cupsEncodeOptions() and cupsParseOptions()
516 functions now conform to the grammer defined by the
517 current draft of the PAPI specification. The main
518 difference is that option=yes and option=no are no
519 longer treated as boolean options.
7914a6a1 520 - The IPP backend didn't honor the encryption settings
521 in /etc/cups/client.conf.
dfac1292 522 - Fixed a potential bug in the HTTP code which was
523 caused by servers sending the status line and
524 newline(s) in separate packets.
13f5eff6 525 - User-defined classification strings are now printed
526 verbatim - previously the classification box would be
527 empty.
78143282 528 - Re-added Spanish to the list of PPD languages that
529 CUPS supports.
e0578e6e 530 - CUPS API library user and temp file updates for
531 Windows.
f33d1239 532 - The image filters did not properly handle grayscale
533 printing of Sun Raster images.
bf9e2a45 534 - The scheduler never reset the NumJobs variable before
535 loading the job list (previously this only happened on
536 a full start, so the problem was never apparent...)
bdbaa675 537 - The HTTP and IPP read/write code didn't handle EINTR
538 (interrupted system call) errors.
539 - When under high load, the scheduler could abort due to
540 the wrong errno value after a select() call. This was
541 caused by the child signal handler.
542 - Added new load tests to the test target to verify that
543 cupsd can handle hundreds of simultaneous jobs without
544 error.
e1e31a38 545 - The Solaris USB backend now supports the new device
546 URI syntax.
7a1c86c5 547 - The ppdOpen*() functions now reset the numeric locale
548 settings while loading a PPD file.
b2fdde8d 549 - Fixed the libtool build rules.
550 - The manpage make rules didn't use $(MAKE) and
551 $(MFLAGS) for the language subdirectories.
d0e4469d 552 - Now set the LC_TIME locale category to get the
553 properly localized time string.
549d1888 554 - Fixed a problem in the scheduler that would cause the
555 web interface problems when adding, modifying, or
556 configuring a printer or class.
98904cd6 557 - The backends now ignore SIGPIPE so that failed job
558 filters will not stop a print queue.
d47f8ebe 559 - The lpstat command did not allow for destination lists
560 ("lpstat -v printer1,printer2")
561 - Fixed parsing of long filter status messages in the
562 scheduler.
563 - Added some startup performance enhancements to the
564 scheduler so that the printer object information is
565 regenerated fewer times and the MIME type database is
566 not filled with lots of empty filters for raw/direct
567 queues.
854d3bb2 568 - The LPD backend now sends the job title as the print
569 filename.
137d4d44 570 - Added support for variable sizes in the EPSON dot
571 matrix printer drivers. This allows for pages as
572 short as 1/2" (1 row of labels) and does not do an
573 automatic form feed.
574 - French translation updates.
e639fb32 575 - The filters did not quote the page label string when
576 embedding it in PostScript output.
3cc7bca4 577 - The serial backend now enumerates serial ports under
578 MacOS X.
579 - The pdftops filter contained font rasterizer code that
580 wasn't being used and that depended on X11. This code
581 has been removed.
582
583
06415a96 584CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.16
585
727e6d14 586 - The cancel and lprm commands now both display an error
587 message and return a non-zero exit status if an
588 attempt is made to cancel a job on a non-existent
589 printer.
590 - The lpoptions command incorrectly complained if a
591 request to delete a non-existent printer was made.
807a1ef5 592 - If the client.conf file defines an alternate server
593 name, the "configure printer" action in the web
594 interface might not work.
7cc9aebd 595 - The lpstat command now supports a "-W" option so that
596 you can display completed jobs as well as
597 not-completed (pending) jobs.
a1ca1702 598 - The lp and lpr commands did not return an error when
599 one or more files in a set of files for printing could
600 not be printed.
3b8ff70f 601 - The lp, lpadmin, and lpstat commands now consistently
602 return with a non-zero exit status when an error
603 occurs.
db628f45 604 - The scheduler would not accept print jobs sent to a
605 stopped remote printer.
da1bfd3d 606 - The texttops filter incorrectly converted the page
607 numbers in the prettyprint header to double-byte
608 characters when printing a non-Unicode text file. This
609 caused an extra space to appear between each digit in
610 the page number.
da312e94 611 - The scheduler did not use a case-insensitive
612 comparison when adding filters for a printer.
be8c3862 613 - Upgraded the pdftops filter to Xpdf 1.01.
801766ac 614 - The scheduler no longer passes the page-border and
615 number-up-layout attributes to filters when printing
616 banner pages.
25037b2b 617 - The LPD backend now uses a 30-second timeout when
618 sending commands and control files, and a 30-second
619 timeout when retrieving responses from an LPD server.
1aef57ed 620 If a timeout occurs, it retries indefinitely. This
25037b2b 621 helps to make LPD printing over VPNs work more
622 reliably.
a9219725 623 - The USB backend now supports device URIs based on the
624 printer serial number and/or model number under Linux.
625 This avoids the "wrong device filename" problem when
626 using more than one USB printer.
c3c5af5e 627 - Now just shutdown the receiving end of a client
628 connection when sending an error that requires the
629 server to disconnect from the client afterwards. This
630 fixes a problem when doing remote administration with
631 encryption enabled.
b05809b0 632 - The scheduler did not send a printer-state-message
633 attribute if the string was empty; it now always sends
634 this attribute. This caused the printer message to be
635 displayed for other printers in the web interface.
04e01993 636 - The LPD backend now supports a "manual_copies" option,
637 e.g.: "lpd://server/queue?manual_copies=no", in order
638 to handle copies for raw jobs to printers that don't
639 implement the LPD protocol properly...
a05e4307 640 - The "mirror" option was not being handled by the
641 PostScript or image filters.
f7696015 642 - Updated the cupsaddsmb command to support the new CUPS
643 driver for Windows NT/2k/XP.
de659667 644 - Filter status lines longer than 1023 characters could
645 cause the scheduler to get into an infinite loop.
aa25b9e1 646 - The scheduler didn't reset the job state to pending
647 when modifying an active printer.
6ed689f8 648 - Now limit the maximum number of recursion steps when
649 searching for a filter for a job, in case a user
650 defines a circular filter rule.
651 - The PostScript filter would embed an invalid
652 requirements comment in some cases.
56e9c951 653 - Added support for embedded job tickets in PostScript
654 files.
5ca43bfd 655 - The PostScript filter now detects EPS files and should
656 better handle printing EPS files.
5ae53c1e 657 - The cancel command now ignores a trailing destination
658 name when cancelling a specific job ID (Solaris
659 compatibility).
879062a9 660 - The scheduler now rejects jobs with copies outside the
da956953 661 range of 1 to MaxCopies, inclusive.
662 - Added new MaxCopies directive to set the maximum
663 number of copies that a user can request.
879062a9 664 - The scheduler didn't block signals while it processed
665 others and when it forked processes.
5ae53c1e 666 - The scheduler checked for new jobs to print when
667 stopping a job. This caused jobs to restart before a
668 shutdown.
098f80c5 669 - Updated the CUPS startup script to better support
670 different timezones and to support the RedHat/Mandrake
671 init script functions, if available.
e426d516 672 - The scheduler did not properly handle backslashes in
673 banner files; it incorrectly assumed that "\c" should
674 always be replaced by "c", instead of only looking for
675 "\{" and replacing it by "{".
90ca6406 676 - The texttops filter didn't handle prettyprint=no.
677 - The text and HP-GL/2 filters didn't check for other
678 common duplex option names like cupsMarkOptions() did.
c56db294 679 - "lpoptions -x printer" no longer clears the "default
680 printer" status of the printer.
3f1897d4 681 - cupsTempFd() now stops trying to create a temporary
682 file after 1000 tries, and aborts on any error other
683 than EEXIST. This should prevent lp/lpr hangs due to
684 a bad or missing temporary directory.
5a3ef28d 685 - The lpadmin command did not send the right URI to the
686 scheduler when setting options on classes. This
687 caused a client-error-bad-request error.
e354b6e3 688 - The CUPS API convenience functions would attempt to
689 connect to the remote server name in a
690 "printer@server" printer name instead of dealing with
691 the default (usually local) server. Aside from
692 causing user confusion, the remote server name might
693 not be resolved properly, causing further problems.
f2320e2d 694 - "lp -q" would cause the "lp" command to segfault, as
695 the program would try to print the option letter that
696 caused the error using the wrong index into the
697 command-line; bugfix from Debian.
f2ffec40 698 - Fixed a minor inconsistancy in the encoding of boolean
699 attributes from printer options in
700 cupsEncodeOptions().
42ede8a2 701 - Added a FilterNice directive which sets the priority
702 of job filter processes that are run by the scheduler.
93704f20 703 - Added Solaris x86 USB printer support.
34f927d3 704 - The USB backend now reports both the ulpt and unlpt
705 devices under *BSD.
78ab59ae 706 - The "lpstat -o" command would truncate the
707 "printer-jobid" string if it was longer than 21
708 characters.
709 - The PJL-based MIME type rules now look in the first
710 1024 bytes instead of just the first 512 bytes to find
711 the language mode.
712 - The image file types are now listed explicitly in the
713 mime.convs file so that additional image file formats
714 do not use the standard CUPS image filters by default.
715 - Updated the Software Programmers Manual to include
716 all of the CUPS API functions.
cefea041 717 - ppdOpen*() no longer sorts choices for an option.
ce691c0f 718 - The web interface now enforces constraints in PPD
719 files when configuring a printer.
3733593d 720 - When stopping a printer, the scheduler didn't set the
721 printer state before stopping the current job.
a56289b6 722 - The cupsaddsmb utility now lists all data files for
723 Win9x and WinMe clients when installing that Windows
724 driver.
997cf8b0 725 - Jobs submitted to a class now bounce immediately to
726 the next available printer rather than waiting until
727 that printer is available.
728 - Filters and backends now also get the CLASS
729 environment variable set when a job is printed to a
730 printer class instead of a normal printer.
731 - Added French translations of the web interface, CUPS
732 Overview, Software Administrators Manual, and Software
733 Users Manual contributed by Marian REYT-LLABRES.
6b7de82f 734 - Added several "hint" messages for common configuration
735 problems that are stored in the error_log file.
736 - httpSeparate() now unquotes %xx characters in the
737 username:password field of a URI.
5fe35f41 738 - When starting the scheduler in daemon mode, the parent
739 process now waits for the child to signal it is ready
740 to accept connections.
741 - Added -F option to cupsd to run cupsd in the
742 foreground but detach from the controlling terminal
743 and current directory.
744 - The scheduler did not reload jobs when receiving a HUP
745 signal; this would cause problems since the pointers
746 into the file type database would no longer be valid
747 for existing jobs.
748 - The scheduler did not save the network interface list
749 update time, thus no caching of the network data was
750 actually provided.
751 - Updated the SuSE PAM configuration file.
9ba7fc54 752 - The LPD backend now supports a "reserve" option and no
753 longer reserves a priviledged port by default.
bdfe4c00 754 - The cupsaddsmb command now continues past printers
755 that do not have a PPD file to export.
19f699df 756 - The lpstat command didn't treat printer names as
757 case-insensitive.
758 - The lpstat command now reports the printer location
759 attribute with "lpstat -l -p".
c5488f2f 760 - Fixed a bug in the vsnprintf() emulation function,
761 which was used on old versions of HP-UX, IRIX, and
762 Solaris.
b91c8a76 763 - The number-up option was incorrectly being used when
764 printing banner pages.
4f759211 765 - Added support for Greek and Slovak PPD files.
aa37e40e 766 - CUPS now supports printer names containing any
767 printable character, e.g. "123-abc", "foo-bar", etc.
d958c5cf 768 - The null filter was not supported in mime.convs due to
769 a bug in the filter validation code.
3a74d6bf 770 - Changes in the default printer and printer attributes
771 were not always reflected in the generated printcap
772 file.
8ce19460 773 - Implicit classes did not inherit the location or
774 description from member printers.
fabb006b 775 - The httpGetHostByName() function did not handle
776 hostnames that started with a number.
1f1822fd 777 - Updated the filters to use the %cupsRotation comment
904eef76 778 instead of %%Orientation to auto-rotate pages, since
779 the use of %%Orientation is inconsistent.
d9e72533 780 - Added the RootCertDuration directive to control how
781 often the root authentication certificate is updated.
375a0ad5 782 - Increased the size of the IPP write buffer to 32k to
783 allow for larger attribute values and to provide more
784 efficient output of large numbers of attributes.
7ed5d5f2 785 - The polling daemon now retries the initial connection
786 to the remote server; this fixes a problem when the
787 remote server is unavailable when the scheduler starts
788 up...
19e7b382 789 - The scheduler didn't validate Digest users against the
790 system group(s), so Digest and BasicDigest
791 authentication didn't work for administration
792 operations.
103abc03 793 - The scheduler now passes the SHLIB_PATH environment
794 variable to child processes (HP-UX shared libraries)
06415a96 795 - The scheduler now maps accesses from the loopback
796 interface to "localhost".
797 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon sent a status code byte in
798 response to queue state commands, but those commands
799 only return textual data.
800
801
7680b71d 802CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.15-1
803
804 - The lpc and lprm sources didn't include the CUPS
805 string function header, which is required on systems
806 that don't have their own snprintf() function.
807 - The French manpage Makefile tried to install the
808 language subdirectories when it (obviously) didn't
809 have to.
810
811
74cfdb8b 812CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.15
813
dab1a4d8 814 - Updated the CUPS license agreement for the new MacOS
815 license exception.
611e4623 816 - The printer-info attribute now defaults to the printer
817 name if no value has been set.
52900e4c 818 - ppdOpen() and friends now add an "Auto" InputSlot
819 option if none is provided to automatically select the
820 correct tray.
ed6078a4 821 - Updated the ppdEmit() and ppdEmitFd() functions to
822 (re)mark the correct PageSize or PageRegion option
823 depending on the selected ManualFeed or InputSlot
824 options.
825 - ppdEmitFd() didn't handle custom page sizes.
826 - Darwin uses <pam/pam_appl.h> instead of
827 <security/pam_appl.h>.
fba7409c 828 - The jobs.cgi web interface now handles all job
829 operations, allowing the administrator to allow "job
830 administrators" or operators to manage jobs (but not
831 queues) on the server.
832 - The cupsDoFileRequest() function now checks if the
833 filename passed into the function is a directory, and
834 returns the IPP_NOT_POSSIBLE error if so.
835 - New SCSI printer backend.
a594463b 836 - Cleaned up handling of locales with trailing character
837 set definitions.
a319615f 838 - Fixed handling of invalid PPD attributes inside
839 OpenUI/CloseUI.
b92c5a4f 840 - Fixed a problem with SSL and the job, printer, and
841 admin CGIs on ports other than 443.
b47f3ce5 842 - The scheduler didn't handle AuthClass properly.
e6fc9c68 843 - Added French translation of man pages.
a8ee4682 844 - Updated the text filter to support the const_cast,
845 dynamic_cast, and static_cast keywords in ISO C++.
def978d5 846 - Now use strlcat() and strlcpy() (or emulation
847 functions) for easier string/buffer protection.
7b40ae49 848 - The auto-generated printcap/printers.conf files now
849 have a small comment header explaining where the file
850 comes from...
6df23e27 851 - The PostScript filter now supports 6, 9, and 16-up
ed6078a4 852 output, as well as new page-border and
6df23e27 853 number-up-layout options.
415199da 854 - The lpoptions command didn't set options properly when
855 using the default printer.
856 - Added ConfigFilePerm and LogFilePerm directives.
857 - Increased maximum size of MIME types to IPP_MAX_NAME
858 to allow for longer printer names.
859 - No longer create remote printers when loading job
860 history data.
861 - The printer-make-and-model attribute wasn't set when
862 the PPD file didn't contain a NickName attribute.
863 - Now handle PPD files with translation strings longer
864 than 80 bytes - they are truncated if they go over...
c47e97cc 865 - The scheduler didn't handle signals until after it
866 loaded the configuration files the first time; this
867 caused problems on some installations that would
868 restart the scheduler as the system booted into run
869 level 3.
870 - Now throttle broadcasts like we do for polling.
0203af93 871 - Fixed a bug in the reading of PPD files using CR's
872 instead of CR LF's or LF's.
151718ce 873 - The scheduler would crash if cupsd.conf contained a
874 BrowseProtocols line with no protocols listed.
b05e8e24 875 - The HTML job operation templates now link back to the
876 destination printer or class.
69d74c4b 877 - The serial backend now detects USB serial devices.
238bae16 878 - The LPD mini-daemon (cups-lpd) now passes the
879 job-originating-host-name attribute to the scheduler
880 (cupsd).
a4e23897 881 - Updated the IPP backend to reconnect after downgrading
882 from IPP/1.1 to 1.0, and when sending requests to HP
883 JetDirect interfaces that don't support HTTP
884 Keep-Alive like they should.
1cf29e95 885 - Now pass NLSPATH and DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH environment
886 variables, if defined, to CGI and job processes.
887 - Removed the pstoraster filter (based on GNU
888 Ghostscript 5.50) and now provide the raster "driver"
889 and patch file necessary to use the current GNU
890 Ghostscript 7.05 release.
891 - Removed unnecessary fonts and updated the Courier and
892 Symbol fonts to the latest versions to better support
893 non-ISOLatin1 text.
894 - The text filter now always embeds the Courier and
895 Symbol fonts to ensure that they contain the full set
896 of glyphs.
576b82ca 897 - The lp and lpr commands now only override the SIGINT
898 handler if it is not being ignored (patch from Robert
899 Ambrose for some interactive software that catches
900 SIGINT and will gracefully cancel the print...)
350807be 901 - The PostScript image filter (imagetops) now supports
902 printing CMYK images using the CMYK colorspace.
903 - The image filters now support CMYK JPEG files, and
904 correctly handles the inverted files from Photoshop
905 (which seems to save RGBW data, not CMYK...)
e3bf38b3 906 - Added a "check" target to the top-level makefile to
907 conform with GNU standards (same as "test").
746265a5 908 - The IPP code didn't always map the POSIX locale "C" to
909 the proper IPP language code.
32f78676 910 - The cupsaddsmb program was updated to use the
911 setdriver command instead of addprinter.
934ef66d 912 - Banner pages were not handled properly for implicit
913 classes.
7200e26c 914 - When tunneling to a remote system using SSH, the
915 printer URIs for local printers on the remote system
916 did not reflect the correct port number.
d7a9de63 917 - The Allow, Deny, BrowseAllow, BrowseDeny, and
918 BrowseAddress directives now support the network
919 interface names "@LOCAL" and "@IF(name)" for access
920 control and browsing based on the current interface
921 addresses instead of fixed names or IP addresses.
2a55786c 922 - The texttops filter did not properly recognize the
923 "nowrap" (wrap=false) option.
83575f2d 924 - The InstallableOptions group name in a PPD file is now
925 translated separately (CUPS_MSG_OPTIONS_INSTALLED) so
926 that UIs can accurately detect the presence of this
927 group.
f4647930 928 - The scheduler no longer keeps job history data for
929 remote printers on the client (just on the server.)
4c2096b8 930 - The parallel and USB backends now retry if the backend
931 detects that the printer is not connected to the
932 system (rather than stopping the queue...)
933 - The network backends now retry if the backend detects
934 that the printer is not connected to the network or is
935 unreachable (rather than stopping the queue...)
c672a858 936 - The cupsGetDests() function no longer lists options
937 and instances for printers that no longer exist.
31e65f97 938 - The scheduler now converts the document language to
939 the correct LANG string.
8c47c4b4 940 - The cupsaddsmb program now supports alternative CUPS
941 and SAMBA server names.
40a0e1d1 942 - The PostScript filter now supports the Orientation
943 comment and rotates the page as needed automatically.
f915b00f 944 - Revamped the makefiles slightly to use automatically
945 generated dependencies.
946 - Build fixes for OS X.
a1028786 947 - The TIFF reading code depended on the newest version
948 of libtiff; now conditionally compile that portion of
949 the loader.
bbc1bfe5 950 - The PPD code now decodes all JCL options in the
951 JCLSetup group, not just those options that start with
952 the prefix "JCL".
267cf96a 953 - The backends now read print data using the read()
954 system call to ensure that the current page is printed
955 while the next page is being processed.
2f7be6ff 956 - The pdftops filter did not support shading type 3
957 (radial fill) for the "sh" operator.
dab1a4d8 958 - The cups-polld program now throttles the local
959 broadcasts of polled printers and classes so that the
960 local system is not overwhelmed with hundreds of
961 printers and classes all at once.
962 - Updated the serial backend to support 230,400 baud for
963 the Linux PPC port.
59168282 964 - The cupsGetJobs() function wouldn't report completed
965 jobs that did not have a document-format attribute
966 value.
1c9c423b 967 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function now maintains a table
968 of known boolean and numeric options, and encodes all
969 other options as strings.
f918a565 970 - Now add a newline before the end-of-page code in the
971 PostScript filter; this fixes a problem with files
972 that don't end with a newline.
a28d12c5 973 - The image filters looked for the "orientation" option
974 instead of the correctly named "orientation-requested"
975 option.
74cfdb8b 976 - The cupsEncodeOptions() function now handles mixed
977 integers and ranges.
978 - New translation guide for developers to provide native
979 language support for CUPS.
980
981
ee8b7dd3 982CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.14
983
843779ef 984 - The ippRead() function did not verify that the
ba31b514 985 attribute name length or string with language value
986 was not larger than the read buffer.
e2943c5f 987 - The scheduler set the signal handlers before loading
988 the configuration files the first time; this prevented
989 the RunAsUser directive from blocking server reloads.
5fd84fcc 990 - Added Swedish message catalog.
0e1f4bec 991 - The parallel backend now recognizes the /dev/printers
992 device directory under Linux 2.4.x.
ba31b514 993 - MacOS X fixes.
994 - The cupsaddsmb utility sent the server name after the
995 user information when executing the rpcclient program.
996 This caused problems with some versions of SAMBA
997 2.2.x.
ee8b7dd3 998 - The IPP backend did not pass the requesting user name
999 when checking on the print job status. This prevented
1000 it from waiting for the job to complete when
1001 communicating with some IPP implementations that
1002 require it.
1003
1004
d2503e02 1005CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.13
1006
28a96fe2 1007 - The lpstat command did not report jobs submitted to
1008 regular printer classes.
0f74081c 1009 - The texttops filter didn't use sufficient precision
1010 when positioning text with some values of cpi and lpi.
1011 This could cause the alignment of text to stray.
0ffae44c 1012 - cupsGetDests() didn't merge the options from the
1013 /etc/cups/lpoptions file with ~/.lpoptions - options
1014 in ~/.lpoptions overrode them completely.
1015 - Added support for KOI8-R and KOI8-U character sets,
1016 and added several Russian message catalogs.
bd726d0d 1017 - The scheduler put the wrong timezone offset in the log
1018 files (e.g. +0500 instead of -0500 for EST...)
1019 - The scheduler did not ignore trailing whitespace in
1020 *.convs files.
db911fcb 1021 - The scheduler now forces all processes to exit (kill
1022 -9) when it is stopped. This prevents parallel and
1023 USB devices from running in the background after cupsd
1024 goes away.
7c587866 1025 - The cupsParseOptions() function didn't skip trailing
1026 whitespace after quoted values.
c3026ddc 1027 - More changes to support CUPS on OS/2.
24e80caf 1028 - Added Simplified Chinese message catalog.
9495ba14 1029 - Added PAM support for IRIX.
c6e1ca5d 1030 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't remove the @server
1031 portion of the printer name, and since it would
1032 connect immediately to the remote server instead of
1033 the local server, the printer would not be found.
8b8cca8e 1034 - Classification and page labels were not rotated to
1035 match the page orientation.
9ae34eb7 1036 - Now set the TCP "no delay" option on network
1037 connections to improve performance/response time.
1038 - Improved the IRIX printing tools support with patches
1039 from Andrea Suatoni.
1040 - Added a new PrintcapGUI directive to specify the GUI
1041 option panel program to use for the IRIX printing
1042 tools support.
1043 - The cupsGetDests() function did not check to see if a
1044 user-defined default printer (set via lpoptions) still
1045 existed.
1046 - The pstops filter no longer assumes that the default
1047 dictionary is writable when doing N-up processing.
bbfcd9c7 1048 - The pstops filter now supports printing N-up with the
1049 page-set option.
873a6f43 1050 - The imagetoraster filter now supports direct printing
1051 of CMYK image data without conversion/correction.
d1c2727f 1052 - The IPP backend now reports printer state/error
1053 conditions when possible (toner low, media empty,
1054 etc.)
bd73c81f 1055 - The lpstat command now supports the (undocumented)
1056 IRIX -l option ("-lprintername") for a compact job
1057 listing for a printer.
1058 - The lpstat command now includes printer date/time
1059 information in the output (always Jan 01 00:00) to
1060 make third-party tools happy.
18843e59 1061 - The text filter now supports non-integer cpi and lpi
1062 values.
dd5f3453 1063 - The Margins field in the CUPS raster header was not
1064 initialized by the pstoraster filter.
9aa1f763 1065 - Added --with-optim="flags" option to configure script.
1066 - Updated the Italian message translations.
1067 - Updated the cups.list file to install the correct
1068 files.
1069 - The pstoraster filter accessed the third element of a
1070 2 element array.
5f46b7d1 1071 - The scheduler did not setup a status pipe for polling
1072 processes, so error messages went to whatever file
1073 descriptor 2 was pointing to when they were started.
5fb5dab7 1074 - The httpMD5Final() function didn't put a colon between
1075 the password and nonce strings.
c5de57af 1076 - The pstops filter did not default to Binary data for
1077 "%%BeginData:".
4a7e6692 1078 - The pstops filter did not stop processing when a line
1079 containing a CTRL-D is seen.
aba2fa7e 1080 - The scheduler no longer replaces the JobSheets values
1081 from the printers.conf and classes.conf files with the
1082 classification level, if set. This way the original
1083 banner settings are preserved when classification
1084 levels are changed or turned off.
8d5eb22e 1085 - The serial backend didn't drain the output queue, nor
1086 did it restore the original settings.
d2503e02 1087 - Updated the default system group under MacOS X.
1088 - If no SystemGroup was defined in cupsd.conf, the
1089 system default group was not used.
1090 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now supports LPD clients that
1091 send multiple control files.
1092 - httpConnectEncrypt() now always uses encryption for
1093 connections on port 443, since port 443 is reserved
1094 for the "https" scheme.
1095 - Group authentication via certificates did not work
1096 from the web interface for accounts other than
1097 "root".
1098 - The serial port backend did not clear the OPOST
1099 option, which could cause problems with some printers.
1100 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon didn't lookup the client IP
1101 address properly.
1102 - The parallel backend now identifies the polled and
1103 interrupt-driven devices under *BSD.
1104 - The scheduler allowed the "always" encryption mode
1105 inside a Location, which is not valid.
1106 - The CUPS startup script now checks for the timezone
1107 information under Linux.
1108 - Now also map the sides attribute to the JCLDuplex
1109 option (if present) in PPD files.
1110 - Updated pdftops to Xpdf 0.93a.
1111 - Added support for MD5 passwords under Slackware.
1112 - Added new AuthType BasicDigest that does Basic
1113 authentication using the MD5 password file managed by
1114 the lppasswd command.
1115 - The banner page attribute substitution code now
1116 retains {name} sequences in banner files when the
1117 named attribute is undefined. Use {?name} to
1118 conditionally substitute an IPP attribute.
1119 - The scheduler now ensures that the ServerRoot
1120 directory and configuration files are owned by and
1121 writable by the User and Group in cupsd.conf.
1122 - The USB backend now lists all USB printer devices
1123 regardless of whether a printer is connected or not.
1124 This allows new USB printers to be connected without
1125 restarting cupsd.
1126 - Added some more minor performance tweeks to the IPP
1127 protocol code to reduce copying and array indexing.
1128 - The cupsaddsmb utility now uses the -c option with
1129 smbclient and rpcclient to avoid the read length limit
1130 for commands on the standard input.
1131 - Added an include file to the CRD handling code in
1132 pstoraster so that it would compile properly on 64-bit
1133 pointer platforms...
1134
1135
1136CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.12
1137
1138 - Added "Polish" to the list of known languages for PPD
1139 files.
1140 - Added missing directory definition to cups-config.
1141 - The CUPS-Move-Job operation did not set the
1142 destination type for the new destination.
1143 - The CUPS-Add-Printer operation did not support the
1144 allow=all or deny=none values to clear the per-user
1145 printer ACLs.
1146 - The SetPrinterAttrs() function did not handle invalid
1147 PPD files that were missing the required NickName
1148 attribute. It now looks for NickName, ModelName, and
1149 then substitutes the string "Bad PPD File" for the
1150 printer-make-and-model attribute.
1151
1152
1153CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.11
1154
1155 - Added support for embedded TrueType fonts in PDF
1156 files.
1157 - Added support for PostScript functions in PDF
1158 files.
1159 - Added new "cupsaddsmb" utility for exporting
1160 CUPS printer drivers to SAMBA/Windows clients.
1161 - Added preliminary support for Darwin/MacOS X.
1162 - The CUPS-Add-Printer operation no longer allows
1163 arbitrary scheme names in device URIs to be used - it
1164 now restricts the available schemes to those found in
1165 the device list (lpinfo -m).
1166 - The ippRead() and ipp_read_file() functions could not
1167 handle more than IPP_MAX_VALUES (100) values in a
1168 1setOf attribute. These functions have been updated
1169 to dynamically allocate more memory as needed, and the
1170 IPP_MAX_VALUES constant now represents the allocation
1171 increment. [this caused some versions of the
1172 GIMP-print drivers to fail since the number of media
1173 options exceeded 100...]
1174 - The scheduler could crash when BrowseShortNames
1175 was set to "No".
1176 - The scheduler did not prevent MaxClients from being
1177 set to 0, which could cause the scheduler to go in an
1178 infinite loop when accepting a request.
1179 - Made some performance optimizations in the ippRead()
1180 functions to make IPP request/response processing
1181 faster.
1182 - The accept/reject/enable/disable command did not
1183 support properly support the "-h" or default
1184 server name.
1185 - The scheduler did not save the quota configuration
1186 when the job-quota-period attribute was set to 0.
1187 - The LPDEST and PRINTER environment variables did not
1188 support printer instances.
1189 - The text filter now handles more types of boldface and
1190 underline formatting.
1191 - The cupsTempFd() function did not fail if the
1192 temporary directory did not exist; this would cause it
1193 to loop indefinitely instead of returning an error
1194 (-1).
1195 - Stopping (disabling) a printer class did not stop jobs
1196 from printing to printers in that class.
1197 - The cupsGetDests() function was sending the
1198 requested-attributes attribute as a name instead of a
1199 keyword; this caused a serious performance problem on
1200 slower systems since more information had to be
1201 transferred from server to client.
1202 - The web interfaces did not always quote < and & in
1203 things like the job title. This had the potential for
1204 browser-based security violations (on the browser's
1205 machine); bug report from SuSE.
1206 - The scheduler now treats unauthenticated usernames as
1207 case-insensitive when doing quota and allow/deny
1208 processing.
1209 - The lp command sent the "request ID is ..." message
1210 to stderr instead of stdout...
1211 - The PostScript filter (pstops) now handles EPS files,
1212 adding a showpage command to the files as needed.
1213 - The configure script checked for the <stdlib.h> header
1214 file before the JPEG libraries; since the JPEG headers
1215 can define HAVE_STDLIB_H, the configure check would
1216 cause the JPEG check to fail on some systems.
1217 - The scheduler now supports localized banner files,
1218 using the subdirectory approach, e.g. the "es"
1219 subdirectory under /usr/share/cups/banners is used for
1220 the Spanish banner files.
1221 - Updated the scheduler so it knows the correct
1222 language abbreviation to use for all supported
1223 PPD LanguageVersion values. The new code also
1224 supports country codes as well, so "English-GB"
1225 maps to the "en_GB" locale.
1226 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon did not support
1227 anonymous printing (no username specified).
1228 While the username is REQUIRED by RFC-1179,
1229 MacOS clients do not send the REQUIRED username
1230 information when printing via LPD.
1231 - Added many warning and informational messages
1232 to cups-lpd where they were missing.
1233 - Added Czech message file contributed by SuSE.
1234 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now returns a non-zero
1235 status if an invalid destination or job ID is
1236 provided.
1237 - The scheduler did not honor the KeepAlive setting in
1238 cupsd.conf.
1239 - Increased the size of the file read/write buffers to
1240 32k.
1241 - *BSD static library creation fixes.
1242 - Use mkstemps() instead of tmpnam() in pdftops whenever
1243 possible.
1244 - Added httpGetHostByName() function as a wrapper around
1245 gethostbyname() - some implementations of this
1246 function do not support IP addresses (e.g. MacOS X.)
1247 - Added casts to all printf's of file lengths, since
1248 there is currently no standard way of formatting long
1249 long values.
1250 - The client filename field was not cleared in all
1251 instances, resulting in old form data being submitted
1252 to CGIs.
1253 - The httpConnect*() functions now try all available
1254 addresses for a host when connecting for the first
1255 time.
1256 - The pstoraster filter would "lose" all drawing
1257 commands when the PageSize was set but the printer
1258 bitmap was not reallocated. This was most noticeable
1259 with the output from StarOffice 6 beta and would
1260 result in a blank page being output...
1261 - The IPP backend was sending a PAGE comment even when
1262 printing the output from a filter (it should only send
1263 page comments when printing files directly...)
1264 - The pdftops filter didn't properly map glyph names of
1265 embedded Asian TrueType fonts.
1266 - Changed the CUPS startup script to look for a program
1267 named "cupsd", not just any program with "cupsd" in
1268 the name (this caused the apcupsd UPS monitoring
1269 daemon to be stopped/restarted...)
1270 - The CUPS-Move-Job operation did not change the
1271 internal destination name for held jobs, so moved (but
1272 held) jobs would still show up as queued on the
1273 original destination.
1274 - The cups-polld program didn't send the
1275 requested-attributes attribute in the
1276 CUPS-Get-Printers and CUPS-Get-Classes requests, which
1277 made it use more CPU and bandwidth than required.
1278 - The scheduler and CUPS API incorrectly added a
1279 job-sheets-default attribute for remote printers. This
1280 caused banner pages to be omitted from client system
1281 prints.
1282
1283
1284CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.10-1
1285
1286 - Minor fixes to the filter, systemv, and template
1287 makefiles to install files properly.
1288
1289
1290CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.10
1291
1292 - Added a driver for DYMO label printers.
1293 - Added new ClassifyOverride directive to allow users
1294 to override the classification of individual jobs.
1295 - Added new BrowseProtocols directive to control which
1296 browse protocols are used (currently CUPS and SLP).
1297 - Added SLPv2 support (thanks to Matt Peterson for
1298 contributing the initial implementation for CUPS.)
1299 - Adding a raw printer on a remote CUPS server now
1300 correctly redirects PPD file requests to the remote
1301 server.
1302 - The serial backend now limits writes to 1/10th
1303 second worth of data to avoid buffer overflows
1304 with some types of flow control.
1305 - The scheduler did not properly process PUT requests,
1306 so configuration files could not be uploaded to the
1307 server.
1308 - The scheduler did not strip trailing whitespace on
1309 lines in the configuration files.
1310 - The httpWrite() function did not transition the PUT
1311 request to the HTTP_STATUS state to get the status
1312 from the server.
1313 - The scheduler did not properly handle trailing null
1314 ("-") filters when testing a driver that sent data
1315 to the file: pseudo-backend.
1316 - The IPP backend now only sends a document-format of
1317 "application/vnd.cups-raw" when printing to another
1318 CUPS server using a local printer driver or interface
1319 script. Previously the job's document format was
1320 used, which was incorrect.
1321 - The lpadmin command didn't use the ppd-name attribute
1322 with the -m option; this prevented the use of the
1323 "raw" model from the command-line.
1324 - The pstoraster filter output draft (1-bit) 6-color
1325 output in the wrong order; this resulted in yellow
1326 being printed instead of black on Stylus Photo
1327 printers.
1328 - The pdftops filter did not have the Japanese and
1329 Chinese text support compiled into it.
1330 - The IPP and AppSocket backends did not clear the
1331 "waiting for print job to complete" status message,
1332 which caused some confusion... :)
1333 - The serial backend now opens the port in "no delay"
1334 mode to avoid DCD detection problems with some OS's.
1335
1336
1337CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.9-1
1338
1339 - The configure script did not substitute the
1340 correct user and group names.
1341 - The configure script did not use the full path
1342 to the install-sh script when it was used.
1343 - The pstoraster filter did not correctly support
1344 DuplexTumble mode for printers that used flip
1345 duplexing.
1346 - The cups.list.in file was missing from the
1347 distribution.
1348 - The New DeskJet series driver did not use the
1349 correct OrderDependency for the Duplex option.
1350 - Use read() instead of fread() to read piped
1351 print files in lpr/lp. This avoids a bug in the
1352 HP-UX 10.20 fread() function.
1353 - Updated the pstoraster filter to use the MIPS_FIXADE
1354 system call under IRIX to fix bus error problems on
1355 R12000 processors (Ghostscript is not 64-bit clean...)
1356 - Some Xerox PPD files (most notably the Phaser 790)
1357 have illegal whitespace in the option keyword in the
1358 OpenUI line. This caused the PageRegion option to not
1359 be recognized properly for the Phaser 790.
1360
1361
1362CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.9
1363
1364 - Revamped the configure script to use a modular
1365 approach for the various tests.
1366 - Added --with-openssl-* options to properly reference
1367 the OpenSSL libraries in DSOs.
1368 - Added --with-cups-user and --with-cups-group
1369 options to specify the default user and group for
1370 CUPS.
1371 - Added AIX shared library support.
1372 - Added AIX device discovery for the serial and
1373 parallel ports.
1374 - Now use install program or script to install
1375 directories, files, and symlinks.
1376 - Updated pstops filter to use strict handling of EPS
1377 files embedded in a PostScript document. The %%EOF
1378 handling in 1.1.8 caused some dvips files not to
1379 print.
1380 - Fixed yet another memory allocation bug in pstoraster
1381 that would cause it to crash. This fix also ensures
1382 that all memory allocations are done on (at least) a
1383 64-bit boundary.
1384 - Fixed Digest authentication - httpGetSubField() didn't
1385 skip the Digest keyword.
1386 - The scheduler did not properly handle Digest
1387 authentication with the new multiple-group support.
1388 - The scheduler did not allow usernames that were
1389 not in the UNIX password file to be used for Digest
1390 authentication from passwd.md5.
1391 - The scheduler could not scan PPD files that only used
1392 a carriage return (i.e. MacOS PPD files); the new code
1393 is also about 40% faster, so servers with thousands of
1394 PPD files should start much faster now.
1395 - The scheduler now stores the PPD file size and
1396 modification times in the ppds.dat file, so it can now
1397 incrementally update the PPD database from the model
1398 directory, resulting in significantly faster startup
1399 times.
1400 - The lpinfo command did not return a non-zero status
1401 code if an error occurred.
1402 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler's UpdateJob() function.
1403 Basically, all jobs shared the same status buffer, and
1404 the "buffer start" pointer could point to 1 byte
1405 before the beginning of the buffer. The new
1406 implementation uses a separate buffer for each job and
1407 eliminates the buffer start bug.
1408 - The IPP backend would send N copies of a document if
1409 the receiving device didn't support the copies
1410 attribute, even if the upstream driver already added
1411 the necessary commands to generate the copies. This
1412 was most noticeable with HP printers where N * N
1413 copies would come out instead of N.
1414 - The PostScript filter (pstops) did not properly handle
1415 duplex printing on inkjet printers that provide this
1416 option. Copies would be put on the front and back
1417 sides of the duplexed page, and the filter did not
1418 output an even number of pages.
1419 - The backends always caught SIGTERM after they
1420 connected to the printer. This prevented raw jobs
1421 from being cancelled early.
1422 - The cupsSetDests() function now removes any printers,
1423 instances, and options that are not defined by the
1424 user or server. This should prevent old system-wide
1425 options from being used in individual user accounts.
1426 - Updated the EPSON printer driver and added PPDs for
1427 the newer EPSON Stylus printers that only support the
1428 "ESC i" graphics command.
1429 - The lpadmin command didn't allow you to add remote
1430 printers to a local class.
1431 - The lpadmin command didn't allow you to set the
1432 options (quotas, etc.) for a class.
1433 - The scheduler did not load or save the
1434 job-sheets-default attribute for classes.
1435 - The scheduler did not automatically recreate remote
1436 printers that were part of a class.
1437 - It was possible for a printer class to list the same
1438 printer more than once.
1439 - The scheduler now makes a backup copy of classes.conf
1440 and printers.conf before writing the new file.
1441 - The lppasswd program incorrectly asked for a new
1442 password when deleting an existing MD5 password
1443 account.
1444 - The scheduler did not match "/printers/name.ppd"
1445 against a location of "/printers/name".
1446 - The client code did not always handle HTTP encryption
1447 upgrades properly.
1448 - The client code now caches the last Digest password so
1449 it can retry using a new resource path or nonce value,
1450 which are included in the MD5 sum sent to the server.
1451 This should eliminate unnecessary password prompts
1452 when using Digest authentication.
1453 - The lppasswd command didn't have a man page.
1454 - Updated the PJL detection rules to allow the universal
1455 escape to occur anywhere in the first 128 bytes of the
1456 file.
1457 - The cups-polld program would poll servers continuously
1458 with no delay if there was an error contacting the
1459 server.
1460 - The IPP backend would send an empty job-name or
1461 requesting-user-name attribute if the corresponding
1462 job attribute was an empty string. While this is
1463 allowed by the IPP specification, some HP JetDirect
1464 implementations return a client-error-bad-request
1465 error if an empty name attribute value is received.
1466 The new code only sends these attributes if they are
1467 not the empty string.
1468 - At least some versions of the HP JetDirect firmware
1469 do not correctly implement IPP. Added additional
1470 checks to the IPP backend to eliminate extra,
1471 unsupported attributes which should normally be
1472 ignored by a compliant IPP device.
1473 - The scheduler did not copy the complete list of
1474 supported file types into the
1475 document-format-supported attribute. This caused
1476 clients to not send the local file type (such as
1477 application/vnd.cups-raw for raw print files) and the
1478 corresponding bad output in some cases.
1479 - The scheduler did not fully copy attributes from a
1480 set-job-attributes request - string attributes were
1481 only referenced, which could cause cupsd to crash
1482 or behave irratically.
1483 - The lp command didn't send the right value for the
1484 job-hold-until attribute when "-H resume" was
1485 specified.
1486 - The IPP backend now returns as soon as a job is
1487 completed or reported as "pending-held".
1488 - Added new ImplicitAnyClasses and HideImplicitMembers
1489 directives to the cupsd.conf file to make implicit
1490 classes more usable/transparent to the user.
1491 - Clients can now (with the appropriate authentication)
1492 retrieve and update the server configuration files
1493 using HTTP GET and PUT requests.
1494 - The web interface didn't allow you to modify the
1495 location or description of the printer.
1496 - The pdftops filter now uses its own temporary file
1497 function to work with PDF files using LZW compression
1498 (which use the uncompress program or gunzip)
1499 - The SystemGroup directive now supports specification of
1500 multiple groups.
1501 - Added new Include directive to cupsd.conf, a la
1502 Apache.
1503 - Added new pseudo-driver/PPD called "raw" that can be
1504 used to create/convert a raw queue. This also allows
1505 raw queues to be created in the web interface.
1506 - The pdftops filter didn't handle image objects that
1507 used JPEG and Flate compression together.
1508 - The pstops filter counted pages wrong when using the
1509 N-up and even/odd printing options. This prevented
1510 the page-ranges option from working properly.
1511 - Added another fix to pstoraster for a bus error
1512 condition caused by a lack of parenthesis in the
1513 Ghostscript code.
1514 - Added new "natural-scaling" option which scales the
1515 natural size of the image (percent of natural image
1516 size instead of percent of page size.)
1517 - The lppasswd program is now setuid to the CUPS user
1518 instead of root.
1519 - The PPD functions did not allow for PPD files that
1520 defined the page sizes and margins before the page
1521 size options.
1522 - The mime.types file now checks for the PJL "LANGUAGE =
1523 Postscript" command for PostScript files.
1524 - The scheduler did not truncate file: output files.
1525 - The PPD file reading code did not handle options with
1526 raw quotes (") in the human-readable names.
1527 - The pdftops filter now remaps the space character when
1528 (bad) PDF files contain a .notdef glyph for the space
1529 character.
1530
1531
1532CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.8
1533
1534 - Updated spec file to generate separate cups-pstoraster
1535 package for pstoraster.
1536 - The spec file wasn't setting LOGDIR in the install.
1537 - The scheduler might restart a stopped printer after
1538 stopping a print job. Thanks to Florent
1539 Guiliani for finding this bug!
1540 - The init script showed run level 0 for the Red Hat
1541 chkconfig program. This is incorrect because Red Hat
1542 doesn't use run level 0 for shutdown scripts.
1543 - The IPP backend did not handle the
1544 client-error-not-found error when checking the status
1545 of the job that was sent. This caused remote queues
1546 to stop on client machines when the server had job
1547 history disabled.
1548 - Added httpConnectEncrypt() function to avoid
1549 performance penalty for setting up encrypted
1550 connections initially.
1551 - Use httpConnectEncrypt() in all client apps and in the
1552 CUPS API to ensure consistent usage of encryption
1553 throughout.
1554 - Jobs weren't queued to remote classes (fix from
1555 Richard Begg.)
1556 - AIX changes from Richard Begg.
1557 - Fixed the pstops fix for GNOME output - no longer use
1558 the page numbers in the %%Page: comment since GNOME
1559 puts a filename instead (!?@!#?!). There is still an
1560 issue with N-up printing since GNOME defines its fonts
1561 in the first page instead of the document setup section
1562 (pages must be independent according to the DSC spec)
1563 People with GNOME printing problems should consult bug
1564 #54489...
1565 - The imagetops filter produced PAGE: messages when
1566 generating PostScript for a non-PostScript printer
1567 (only affects page-label and Classification
1568 options.)
1569 - The updated pdftops filter was looking for an options
1570 file called xpdf.conf instead of pdftops.conf.
1571
1572
1573CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.7
1574
1575 - Configuration script changes, including new
1576 "--with-docdir=/dir" option to relocate CUPS
1577 documentation and web content according to your
1578 favorite version of the FHS.
1579 - Documentation updates for encryption, SLP, etc.
1580 - New Software Test Plan and automated test script to
1581 test CUPS prior to installation.
1582 - All scheduler configuration files are now case
1583 insensitive to match Apache.
8372ad6b 1584 - Added support for Apache ListenBackLog, Require,
1585 Satisfy, <Limit>, <LimitExcept>, and LimitRequestSize
d2503e02 1586 directives.
1587 - Added support for all Apache log levels...
1588 - Added support for "double" HostNameLookups.
1589 - Added new "RunAsUser" directive to support non-root
1590 configurations on the standard (priviledged) ports.
1591 - Added support for non-root invocation of the lpd
1592 backend (does no reserve a priviledged port, which
1593 might not work with some LPD servers...)
1594 - Added new PrintcapFormat directive to control the
1595 output format of the printcap file (BSD or Solaris
1596 formats are supported at present.)
1597 - The CUPS directory service routines now handle
1598 ECONNREFUSED errors gracefully rather than shutting
1599 all browsing off.
1600 - ippErrorString() now returns the recommended error
1601 messages from the IPP/1.1 Model and Semantics
1602 document.
1603 - Fixed a minor IPP compliance issue with responses
1604 to requests without the attributes-charset or
1605 attributes-natural-language attributes.
1606 - Sun fix: need httpFlush() call for chunked IPP
1607 requests in cupsDoFileRequest().
1608 - httpConnect() now looks up "localhost" by name and
1609 by address (127.0.0.1) for users the go to the
1610 trouble of removing the required localhost entry
1611 in /etc/hosts or on their DNS server...
1612 - Added support for Linux 2.4.x devfs parallel port
1613 filenames (/dev/parallel/N).
1614 - cupsDo[File]Request() and cupsGetPPD() no longer
1615 block trying to reconnect to a crashed or inaccessable
1616 server.
1617 - Added new ppdEmitJCL() function to better handle
1618 PJL commands from PPD files.
1619 - A bug in UpdateJob() would cause the scheduler to
1620 consume 100% CPU until another request was submitted.
1621 - The cancel command did not support the "-" option to
1622 cancel all jobs on all printers.
1623 - The cancel and lprm commands did not support cancelling
1624 the next/current job in the queue.
1625 - The pdftops and pstoraster filters were using unsafe
1626 temporary file functions; while this is not a problem
1627 in normal configurations (the CUPS temporary directory
1628 is restricted), they now use the cupsTempFd() function.
1629 - The mime.types file was missing the recognition rule
1630 for Sun Raster images.
1631 - The admin CGI was passing a printer make string to
1632 ippSetCGIVars() that was being replaced in that
1633 function.
1634 - "lpoptions -l" would resave the options...
1635 - The EPSON drivers now send the "end packet mode"
1636 command when printing to USB devices.
1637 - The scheduler initialized certificates before loading
1638 the cupsd.conf file.
1639 - The scheduler used /dev/random to collect random data,
1640 which could block if insufficient entropy information
1641 had been collected by the kernel. Now use
1642 /dev/urandom.
1643 - Fixed a bug in the whitespace skipping code in
1644 httpGetSubField().
1645 - The LPD backend now supports a new "order" option:
1646 "lpd://server/queue?order=control,data" (default) and
1647 "lpd://server/queue?order=data,control".
1648 - The scheduler enforced a 30 second timeout on all
1649 clients regardless of the Timeout directive and if a
1650 CGI was currently running.
1651 - cupsParseOptions() now sets boolean options to
1652 option=true or option=false.
1653 - The "percent complete" calculations in the LPD backend
1654 could overflow on large files, causing the percentage
1655 to wrap to 0 every 40MB or so.
1656 - Fixed a memory reallocation bug in pstoraster that
1657 could cause it to crash.
1658 - The LPD backend now sanitizes the job title to avoid
1659 potential problems on remote LPD servers.
1660 - The lp command did not send the requesting-user-name
1661 attribute when altering a job.
1662 - The pstops filter did not handle PostScript files with
1663 lines longer than 8191 bytes.
1664 - The scheduler no longer uses inet_addr() to convert IP
1665 addresses in dot format (mmm.nnn.ooo.ppp) to the
1666 32-bit format, since it will not work for IPv6
1667 addresses.
1668 - New "Classification" directive to force labeling of
1669 the current classification on each page.
1670 - New "page-label" attribute to add per-page labels
1671 ("For Official Use Only", "Draft", etc.)
1672 - The scheduler now sets the HTTPS environment variable
1673 for CGI programs when a client connects using
1674 encryption.
1675 - Fixed a recursion bug in the scheduler that could
1676 cause cupsd to crash when a printer was removed.
1677 - The LPDEST and PRINTER environment variables didn't
1678 support instances.
1679 - Dropped the "file" backend from the device list that
1680 is reported, since it is only available for *testing*
1681 and should never be used in a production environment.
1682 The file: device can still be used, but it won't show
1683 up in the list of devices from lpinfo or the web
1684 interface.
1685 - Added support for /dev/lpa# parallel ports under *BSD.
1686 - Added META variables to the CGI header template to
1687 prevent caching of the results.
1688 - Fixed an unaligned memory buffer for the pstoraster
1689 clist states; this caused bus errors for some
1690 combinations of printers, drivers, and options.
1691 - Re-added black reduction for colorful colors; this
1692 helps to prevent dark colors from getting desaturated.
1693 (only used when converting RGB to CMYK)
1694 - Added two new directives - MaxJobsPerPrinter and
1695 MaxJobsPerUser - to allow an administrator to set
1696 the maximum number of pending jobs in a queue or
1697 submitted by a user.
1698 - The scheduler no longer stops a printer if it can't
1699 create the status pipe or run the filters or backend.
1700 This will allow heavily loaded servers to service
1701 clients or start print jobs as the load allows.
1702 - Fixed a bug in the Set-Job-Attributes code that could
1703 crash the scheduler (patch from Martin Zielinski)
1704 - cupsSetDests() did not quote option values with
1705 embedded spaces.
1706 - Added support for the Enable-Printer and
1707 Disable-Printer extension operations (same as
1708 CUPS-Accept-Jobs and CUPS-Reject-Jobs.)
1709 - The AppSocket and IPP backends now wait for the print
1710 job to be finished before exiting; this should prevent
1711 the loss of print jobs with older JetDirect firmware
1712 and make consecutive print jobs print faster.
1713 - The BMP loading code did not handle resolution values
1714 of 0. This is a problem with BMP image files produced
1715 by the GIMP.
1716 - The HTTP Upgrade code (upgrade to TLS encryption)
1717 bypassed the authentication checks.
1718 - The HTTP Upgrade code did not send a 426 status code
1719 to the client and end the current request. This caused
1720 a race condition between the client and server for the
1721 upgrade to TLS.
1722 - Fixed a bug in the EOF and Trailer detection code in
1723 the pstops filter.
1724 - The imagetoraster filter did not add the margins to
1725 the custom page size in the raster header.
1726 - The imagetops filter did not adjust the custom page
1727 size to the size of the printed image.
1728 - The imagetops filter did not include DSC comments
1729 which are required by some printers.
1730 - The imagetops filter did not insert newlines in
1731 Base85 encoded output, causing files to contain
1732 lines longer than 255 characters (violation of the
1733 DSC).
1734 - Added support for the DeskJet 900 series duplexer
1735 and CRET color modes in the HP driver.
1736 - Added support for PPD-defined margins in the HP
1737 driver.
1738 - Fixed the debugging output from pstoraster - the
1739 font list was not terminated by a newline.
1740 - Some versions of the HP-UX pam_unix authentication
1741 module apparently do not pass the appdata_ptr argument
1742 to the conversation function, preventing the scheduler
1743 from authenticating users using PAM under HP-UX. A
1744 workaround using a static variable has been added to
1745 address this problem.
1746 - Fixed a bug in the scheduler SortPrinters() function
1747 that could cause printers to disappear or the
1748 scheduler to crash when adding a printer.
1749 - Changed the pstops filter to not do per-page filtering
1750 if the file does not conform to at least version 3.0
1751 of the document structuring conventions. This seems
1752 to "fix" printing with broken apps.
1753 - The image filters did not handle older TIFF files that
1754 lacked the samples-per-pixel and bits-per-pixel tags.
1755 - Added new cupsGetJobs() and cupsFreeJobs() functions
1756 to manage print jobs.
1757 - cupsEncodeOptions() would encode names of 0 length and
1758 cupsAddOption() and cupsParseOptions() would add names
1759 of 0 length.
1760 - The scheduler might block waiting for status messages
1761 after starting a new print job. Thanks to Florent
1762 Guiliani for finding this bug!
1763
1764
1765CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-3
1766
1767 - The configure script put the JPEG library before the
1768 TIFF library; this caused problems in some
1769 configurations since the TIFF library also supports
1770 JPEG compression of TIFF images.
1771 - Updated the configure script and makefiles to handle
1772 admin man pages with the "1m" extension (HP-UX, IRIX,
1773 Solaris, Tru64) and in odd directories (IRIX)
1774 - The updated cupsTempFile() function did not return
1775 the filename when called with a filename buffer of
1776 NULL (previously it used a static buffer.)
1777 - FreeBSD uses /dev/unlptN, but NetBSD and OpenBSD use
1778 /dev/ulptN.
1779 - DeletePrinter() didn't remove the printer from any
1780 classes it was a member of.
1781 - DeletePrinterFromClass() didn't preserve the
1782 implicit status of a class.
1783 - DeletePrinterFromClasses() didn't remove printers
1784 from implicit classes.
1785 - StartJob() didn't send the job-sheets, job-priority,
1786 and job-hold-until attributes to remote printers.
1787 - LoadAllJobs() was looking for job-sheets-completed
1788 instead of job-media-sheets-completed. This would
1789 prevent accumulation of page data after a restart
1790 of the scheduler.
1791 - The pstops and imagetops filters now generate copies
1792 using the appropriate method for a Level 1, 2, or 3
1793 printer since some Level 2/3 printers don't support
1794 the /#copies variable anymore.
1795 - The man page for cups-lpd did not mention the "-o"
1796 option.
1797 - The IPP backend didn't handle version-not-supported
1798 errors and revert to IPP/1.0 (previously it only checked
1799 for a bad-request error)
1800 - Caldera fix: lpc now reports unimplemented commands as
1801 unimplemented, not invalid.
1802 - Caldera fix: lpq didn't recognize BSD lpq "-a" option.
1803 - Caldera fix: lpr didn't recognize BSD lpr "-1", "-2",
1804 "-3", "-4", "-q", or "-U" options.
1805 - RedHat fixes: patches to GNU Ghostscript
1806 - SuSE fix: temp file creation patch to GNU Ghostscript
1807 (pstoraster).
1808 - SuSE fix: remove cgi-bin/abort.c and cgi-bin/email.c,
1809 which are not used.
1810 - SuSE fix: missing NULL check in cgi_initialize_post().
1811 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in
1812 cgi_initialize_string().
1813 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in
1814 ippSetCGIVars()
1815 - SuSE fix: more NULL checks in ppdOpen(); also make
1816 sure that all memory is freed on error to avoid memory
1817 leaks.
1818 - SuSE fix: Exit from child if setgid() or setuid()
1819 fails.
1820 - SuSE fix: Added setgroups() calls after setgid() and
1821 setuid() calls.
1822 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in httpEncode64()
1823 calls.
1824 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in httpSeparate()
1825 - SuSE fix: potential buffer overflows in ippWrite() for
1826 bad input.
1827 - SuSE fix: potential nul skip in ppd_decode() for
1828 missing hex digits.
1829
1830
1831CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-2
1832
1833 - Added changes to support NetBSD startup scripts.
1834 - Added separate compiler options for pstoraster
1835 (Ghostscript) to avoid compiler-induced errors
1836 from Ghostscript's twisted code.
1837 - The mime.types file contained syntax errors.
1838 - Updated the *BSD USB device filenames to use
1839 the /dev/unlptN files so that the USB device
1840 is not reset prior to printing (causes print
1841 corruption on many printers)
1842 - Added new cupsTempFd() function to avoid serious
1843 security bug in glibc fopen() function. The glibc
1844 fopen() function unlinks a file before creating it,
1845 which opens up possible symlink attacks.
1846 - Now reject 0-length names in add-printer and add-class
1847 requests.
1848 - Fix for pstoraster when ZLIB is not available.
1849 - cupsGetPPD() didn't reconnect when a HTTP connection
1850 was lost.
1851 - SuSE fix: httpConnect() didn't check that the
1852 value from gethostbyname() was a valid IPv4 address.
1853 - SuSE fix: httpConnect() didn't allow file descriptor 0
1854 to be used for a socket.
1855 - SuSE fix: ippRead() didn't confirm that all values in
1856 a set were numeric or string types.
1857 - SuSE fix: lppasswd race condition fixes.
1858 - SuSE fix: directive names could overflow buffer when
1859 reading *.conf files.
1860 - SuSE fix: HEAD requests for PPD files did not use the
1861 same logic as GET requests.
1862 - SuSE fix: possible buffer overflow when adding
1863 /index.html to requested directory name.
1864 - SuSE fix: possible buffer overflow when converting
1865 IPP attributes to string options for filters.
1866 - SuSE fix: creating file: device output with mode 0666
1867 instead of mode 0600.
1868 - SuSE fix: creating job info files with mode 0640
1869 instead of 0600.
1870 - SuSE fix: don't rely on snprintf() for including
1871 system name in log filenames.
1872 - SuSE fix: add bounds checking when copying quoted
1873 and hex strings.
1874
1875
1876CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6-1
1877
1878 - Added configure check for getting the correct
1879 strftime() format string; %c is not Y2k safe,
1880 and %KC and NULL are not universally supported.
1881
1882
1883CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.6
1884
1885 - Fixed another possible DoS attack in httpGets()
1886 - Added check for "LANGUAGE = PCL" and "LANGUAGE =
1887 POSTSCRIPT" in mime.types.
1888 - Resolution options were not being passed into the
1889 filter programs properly.
1890 - The default compiler options for GCC no longer include
1891 "-g3", which apparently is deprecated in newer
1892 versions of GCC.
1893 - CheckJobs() could cause cupsd to crash if a job is
1894 cancelled in StartJob().
1895 - The printers.conf and classes.conf files are now
1896 written with restricted permissions.
1897 - The round-robin algorithm used by FindAvailablePrinter()
1898 had problems; fixes contributed by Joel Fredrikson.
1899 - If LoadAllJobs() is unable to determine the file type
1900 of a print job, assume "application/vnd.cups-raw".
1901 - The web interface now provides a job_printer_name
1902 value for any corresponding job_printer_uri value.
1903 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now logs the client address
1904 and hostname as well as all commands and errors in the
1905 syslog file.
1906 - The IPP backend now detects the supported file formats
1907 and only specifies the document format if it is
1908 supported. This makes IPP printing to network print
1909 servers and cards more reliable without affecting the
1910 capabilities of CUPS servers.
1911 - The time_at_xyz attributes are now converted to human-
1912 readable dates and times for the web interfaces.
1913 - The HP and EPSON sample drivers now correctly catch
1914 signals and eject the current page when a job is
1915 cancelled.
1916 - Fixed bug in CGI code - did not ignore control
1917 characters (e.g. newlines) in form data. This caused
1918 sporatic web interface problems.
1919 - The file type logging code in the scheduler referenced
1920 the optional document-format attribute; the new code
1921 uses the resolved MIME type instead.
1922 - The client.conf parsing code now removes trailing
1923 whitespace.
1924 - The MaxJobs directive was being treated as a boolean
1925 instead of an integer.
1926 - The scheduler would not timeout remote printers if
1927 BrowseInterval was set to 0.
1928 - The lpadmin command now supports setting of options
1929 and user-level access control.
1930 - Added "-E" option to all printing commands to force
1931 encryption.
1932 - The client code did not consume the response to the
1933 OPTIONS request when switching to secure mode.
1934 - The scheduler did not output a Content-Length field
1935 when responding to an OPTIONS request.
1936 - Added documentation on using cups-lpd with xinetd
1937 to the man page.
1938 - The socket backend now starts retries at 5 seconds and
1939 increases the interval to 30 seconds. This should
1940 provide faster printing when multiple jobs/files are
1941 queued for a printer.
1942 - The filters and backends no longer buffer output to
1943 stderr. This should provide much more accurate status
1944 reporting.
1945
1946
1947CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5-2
1948
1949 - Fixed configure check for OpenSSL to work with RSA
1950 code.
1951 - Added configure check for <sys/ioctl.h>, and use this
1952 check in backend/serial.c.
1953 - Updated configure script handling of data,
1954 configuration, and state directories to use datadir,
1955 sysconfdir, and localstatedir variables.
1956 - NetBSD uses different serial port filenames than
1957 FreeBSD and OpenBSD.
1958 - The pdftops filter didn't need some X-specific files.
1959 - The scheduler makefile doesn't do a chown anymore when
1960 installing (cupsd did this automatically on startup
1961 anyways)
1962
1963
1964CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5-1
1965
1966 - There was a typo in the top-level Makefile
1967 - The top-level Makefile did not install an init script
1968 for run level 5.
1969 - The configure script did not add the "crypto" library
1970 when checking for the OpenSSL library.
1971 - The OKIDATA PPD files were missing.
1972 - The config.h.in file defined the wrong version number.
1973 - The serial backend did not define "funky_hex" under *BSD.
1974 - Updated the Visual C++ project files and some of the
1975 CUPS API sources to compile under Windows again.
1976
1977
1978CHANGES IN CUPS V1.1.5
1979
1980 - Security updates - new default configuration does
1981 not broadcast printer information and only allows
1982 access from the local system.
1983 - EXPERIMENTAL encryption support - CUPS now optionally
1984 supports TLS/SSL encryption via the OpenSSL library.
1985 - Documentation updates.
1986 - Makefile/configure script updates.
1987 - The RPM spec file didn't work out-of-the-box under
1988 RedHat or Mandrake.
1989 - Minor code cleanup to remove extraneous compiler
1990 warnings.
1991 - cupsTempFile() was using %p for the temporary
1992 filename; this should have been %08x (just 8 digit
1993 hex)
1994 - Deleting a printer with active print jobs would still
1995 crash the server.
1996 - ippWrite() and ipp_write_file() didn't send the
1997 correct value length for name-with-language and
1998 text-with-language attributes.
1999 - Updated IPP code to support copied strings (that
2000 should not be freed); this provides slightly more
2001 efficient IPP server performance.
2002 - Updated PDF filter to Xpdf 0.91.
2003 - httpGets() could go into an infinite loop if a line
2004 longer than the input buffer size was sent by a
2005 client. This could be used in a Denial-of-Service
2006 attack.
2007 - The lpstat and CUPS API functions now request only the
2008 data required when getting the list of printer or
2009 class information. This should improve performance
2010 with large numbers of printers on slower machines.
2011 - The scheduler was always enforcing the FilterLimit,
2012 even if FilterLimit was set to 0.
2013 - Updated the Linux USB backend to support Mandrake's
2014 /dev/usb/usblp# filenames.
2015 - The PRINTER and LPDEST environment variables did not
2016 override the lpoptions default printer.
2017 - The PPD read functions incorrectly included trailing
2018 characters (usually whitespace) after quoted string
2019 attributes.
2020 - The multiple-document-handling attribute handling code
2021 did not check for the correct value for collated
2022 copies (separate-documents-uncollated-copies).
2023 - The EPSON driver did not work with OKIDATA printers in
2024 EPSON emulation mode (needed change-emulation command)
2025 - The HP-GL/2 filter did not scale the plot properly in
2026 scale mode 2.
2027 - Added PPD files for 9-pin and 24-pin OKIDATA printers.
2028 - The httpSeparate() function didn't handle passwords
2029 that started with a number.
2030 - ippDelete() could free the character set string
2031 multiple times in name-with-language and
2032 text-with-language attributes.
2033 - The scheduler would access freed memory right after
2034 freeing it (for debug messages); these parts of the
2035 code have been reordered to avoid this situation
2036 which was causing sporatic errors and crashes.
2037 - The ppdClose() function didn't free all of the strings
2038 in the ppd_file_t structure.
2039 - The LoadAllJobs() function in the scheduler did not
2040 close the spool directory.
2041 - Changed all sprintf's that use string formats to
2042 snprintf's, even if the destination buffer is
2043 larger than the source string(s); this protects
2044 against buffer overflows caused outside of CUPS...
2045 - Changed all strcpy's to strncpy's between local and
2046 global variables, even if the destination buffer is
2047 larger than the source string; this protects
2048 against buffer overflows caused outside of CUPS...
2049 - The CUPS certificate functions didn't use the
2050 CUPS_SERVERROOT environment variable when set.
2051 - The directory services code was copying instead of
2052 comparing the remote printer info, resulting in
2053 unnecessary updates of the printer attributes for
2054 remote printers.
2055 - Added new mime.types rules to allow automatic raw
2056 printing of PCL and ESC/P files; PJL headers are
2057 parsed to differentiate between PostScript and
2058 PCL job files. This should eliminate a lot of
2059 the reports of SAMBA printing problems due to
2060 the missing "-oraw" or "-l" options.
2061 - The mimeLoadType() function didn't handle the
2062 3-argument contains() function.
2063 - The LoadPPDs() function in the scheduler didn't
2064 properly set the alloc_ppds variable or handle a PPD
2065 database containing 0 printers.
2066 - The scheduler FindAvailablePrinter() function didn't
2067 use the same queuing logic as the CheckJobs()
2068 function. This caused classes to stall if a remote
2069 printer was always busy.
2070 - Jobs are now assigned to printers in a class
2071 round-robin style. This should prevent the first
2072 server in the class from bearing the brunt of the
2073 jobs.
2074 - The scheduler's LoadAllJobs() function didn't always
2075 restore remote printers for queued jobs on startup.
2076 - The serial backend didn't support the higher baud
2077 rates with the old termios interface. It now supports
2078 57600 and 115200 baud.
2079 - The serial backend now supports different types of
2080 flow control; previously it ignored the flow=XYZ
2081 option in the device URI.
2082 - The serial backend now supports DTR/DSR flow control,
2083 which is popular on dot-matrix printers (access with
2084 "flow=dtrdsr" in the device URI)
2085 - Added new job-originating-host-name attribute for
2086 jobs. The new attribute provides the hostname or
2087 IP address of the machine that submitted the job.
2088 - The set-job-attributes code no longer allows read-only
2089 job attributes to be changed.
2090 - Expanded the click area for the navigation bar in the
2091 web interface.
2092 - Updated the lp and cancel commands to support all of
2093 the Solaris print options (some are simply ignored
2094 since they do not map)
2095 - Updated the scheduler to limit the number of file
2096 descriptors to the maximum select() set size. This
2097 was causing problems on Solaris systems where the
2098 max FD count was increased beyond 1024.
2099 - The scheduler's LoadDevices() function was getting
2100 interrupted by the SIGCHLD signal handler; now ignore
2101 child signals while loading devices.
2102 - Added quota and allow/deny user support for printers
2103 and classes.
2104 - Removed black/CMY adjustment code from the PS and
2105 image file RIPs; it was interfering with some CUPS
2106 driver dithering code.
2107 - The lpc program stopped listing the queue statuses
2108 after the first active printer.
2109 - The cups-lpd program used an output format that the
2110 Solaris printing system did not understand.
2111 - Updated the lpq program to use the Solaris format
2112 except under Tru64 UNIX.
2113 - Some DEC PPD files incorrectly use "Off" for the null
2114 value in UI constraints. Added "Off" to the list of
2115 accepted null values.
2116 - Changed the *BSD define constants to __*BSD__ in all
2117 of the backends.
2118 - Added support for "lpstat printername", which is an
2119 undocumented feature in Solaris.
2120 - The HP-GL/2 filter now only sets the plot size if it
2121 is set in the plot file.
2122 - The lpmove command wasn't sending the requesting
2123 user name, causing it to always fail.
2124 - Updated the cupsTempFile() code to use GetTempPath()
2125 under Windows.
2126 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon didn't limit the number of
2127 data files accepted, didn't use cupsTempFile(),
2128 didn't handle control file job information in any
2129 order, and didn't free job options after printing
2130 a file.
2131 - The scheduler copy_banner() function did not
2132 explicitly set the owner and permissions of the banner
2133 files, which could prevent the banner pages from
2134 printing on some systems.
2135 - The lpstat program wasn't listing remote classes.
2136 - The scheduler did not verify that the printer-uri
2137 attribute was specified in all requests that required
2138 it.
2139
2140
2141CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.4
2142
2143 - Makefile and configure script fixes.
2144 - **** Changed the default Printcap setting **** to
2145 /etc/printcap. There are just too many people asking
2146 why application XYZ doesn't see their printers!
2147 - The web admin interface now displays an error if it
2148 can't get the list of printer drivers from cupsd.
2149 - The IPP backend was putting the copies option before
2150 the other job options were set. This caused the IPP
2151 request to contain attribute groups in the wrong
2152 order, which prevented remote printing.
2153 - Added checks in scheduler to free memory used for
2154 IPP requests and language information when closing
2155 a client connection.
2156 - Fixed the duplex option in the HP LaserJet driver. It
2157 should now work with all LaserJet printers (and
2158 compatibles)
2159 - The add-printer web interface didn't initialize the
2160 "old info" data pointer, which caused random crashes
2161 on many OS's.
2162 - Fixed many page sizes defined in the Level 1
2163 compatibility file "gs_statd.ps" to match reality.
2164 - Fixed another bug in the setpagedevice "code" in
2165 Ghostscript. It should now accept all standard
2166 Adobe attributes on all platforms.
2167 - Fixed pstoraster so that it reallocates memory for
2168 color depth changes as well as size/resolution
2169 changes. This removes an ordering constraint on
2170 the color, page size, and resolution options in
2171 PPD files.
2172 - The IPP backend didn't use the job's character set
2173 when the destination printer supported it. This
2174 caused problems when printing text files to other
2175 CUPS servers.
2176 - Updated the logic used to determine when to rebuild
2177 the PPD file database. The scheduler now checks the
2178 dates and the number of PPD files (was just checking
2179 the dates.)
2180 - Updated the ippSetCGIVars() function (used by the
2181 web interfaces) to only filter valid string values.
2182 - The PostScript filter was scaling 2-up pages
2183 incorrectly. This caused the edges of some pages to
2184 be clipped.
2185
2186
2187CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.3
2188
2189 - Makefile fixes.
2190 - RPM spec file changes.
2191 - Documentation updates.
2192 - Enabled pstoraster debug messages for everything
2193 (only logged when LogLevel set to "debug"...)
2194 - Changed the Input/OutputAttributes fix in
2195 pstoraster so that it works on all platforms.
2196 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't set the right green
2197 color value in encoded polylines or text.
2198 - Updated the "fitplot" code to handle plot sizes
2199 specified as "PSwidth,length" and "PSlength,width".
2200 - Updated the Linux parallel and USB backends to open
2201 the device files prior to looking in /proc for
2202 autoprobe info. This makes sure that loadable device
2203 driver modules are in fact loaded...
2204 - Added new FilterLimit directive to limit the number
2205 of processing jobs/filters on a system.
2206 - set-job-attributes didn't change the job-state to
2207 held/pending when the job-hold-until attribute was
2208 specified.
2209 - set-job-attributes didn't save the new job attributes.
2210 - Now change the "requesting-user-name" attribute in
2211 requests from remote systems to "remroot" when an
2212 unauthenticated "root" user is sent. This can be
2213 changed using the new RemoteRoot directive in
2214 cupsd.conf.
2215 - The cancel-job, hold-job, release-job, and restart-job
2216 operations didn't log the authenticated username.
2217 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now checks for a
2218 document-format option before forcing raw mode with
2219 filter mode 'l'.
2220 - The cups-lpd mini-daemon now supports "-o" options
2221 on the command-line (passed by inetd) to set global
2222 defaults for all print queues.
2223 - The pstops filter assumed that a file with a Trailer
2224 comment would also have an EOF comment.
2225 - Added new cupsSetPasswordCB(), cupsSetServer(),
2226 cupsSetUser(), and ippSetPort() functions to better
2227 support client applications (especially GUIs...)
2228 - The CUPS-add-class and CUPS-add-printer operations
2229 didn't reset the printer-name attribute on remote
2230 print queues that had to be renamed when a local
2231 printer was defined with the same name.
2232 - The lpoptions command now supports a "-r" option to
2233 remove options for a printer or instance.
2234 - The lpadmin and admin.cgi programs no longer allow
2235 class and printer names to begin with a number; this
2236 caused the command-line utilities to become confused.
2237 - The Linux USB backend now looks for both the parallel
2238 and usblp driver names in the device list.
2239 - Added a new FontPath directive to cupsd.conf, and also
2240 a "--with-fontpath" option for the configure script to
2241 specify alternate font paths for pstoraster.
2242 - The CUPS-move-job operation didn't update the
2243 job-printer-uri attribute.
2244 - The scheduler only looked up printers and classes by
2245 name in IPP requests, instead of using the full URI.
2246 This caused problems with KUPS and friends with
2247 remote printers.
2248 - The scheduler now handles better localization of
2249 hostnames (e.g. server is host.foo.com, remote is
2250 host.subfoo.foo.com, localized is not host.subfoo...)
2251 - The scheduler logging functions now use a common
2252 log file checking/rotation function (courtesy of
2253 Crutcher Dunnavant at Red Hat)
2254 - The scheduler could accept more client connections
2255 than it allocated for if more than one Port or Listen
2256 line was present in cupsd.conf.
2257 - Other minor scheduler performance tweeks.
2258 - The lpq and lprm commands didn't support the default
2259 printer set using lpoptions.
2260 - The lpoptions command now supports a "-l" option to
2261 list the printer-specific options and their current
2262 settings.
2263 - The web printer and class lists now show a link to the
2264 default printer or class at the top of the page.
2265 - The text filter now supports pretty printing of shell
2266 and perl scripts as well as C/C++ source files.
2267 - The top and bottom margins were reversed for landscape
2268 text printing.
2269 - The lpq and lprm commands didn't understand printer
2270 instances.
2271 - The scheduler only selected on the first 100 file
2272 descriptors instead of the maximum file descriptor
2273 limit.
2274 - The scheduler client, listener, and mainline functions
2275 now share code to disable and enable monitoring for
2276 new client connections.
2277 - The imagetoraster filter didn't support all of the
2278 required pagedevice parameters.
2279 - The serial backend now checks for 100 serial ports
2280 under Linux.
2281 - The scheduler used sscanf() to pull out the remote
2282 printer location, description, and make/model strings,
2283 but if any of these options was empty then sscanf()
2284 would stop processing.
2285 - Added "debug2" log level to provide a little less
2286 verbose debugging information at the "debug" level.
2287 - The scheduler would crash if you stopped a printer
2288 that was currently printing a job.
2289 - The scheduler incorrectly allowed jobs in the cancelled,
2290 aborted, or completed state to be cancelled.
2291 - The image filters did not load TIFF images properly
2292 for bottom-to-top and right-to-left orientations.
2293 - Added new cupsEncodeOptions() function to encode
2294 CUPS options as IPP job attributes.
2295 - The IPP backend, LPD mini-daemon, client commands,
2296 and CUPS API did not properly encode multiple
2297 option values separated by commas.
2298 - Added new scheduler malloc logging in debug mode
2299 (provides summary of total arena size, allocated,
2300 and free bytes once a minute)
2301 - The EPM-based distributions didn't install the
2302 correct symlinks for a few man pages.
2303 - Fixed a memory leak in the scheduler - wasn't
2304 freeing old filters when deleting or renaming
2305 printers.
2306 - The scheduler now queries the primary IP address
2307 for the name of the server and maps any incoming
2308 requests from that address to the server name.
2309 This fixes web admin mapping problems from
2310 server.domain.com to localhost.
2311 - The web printer modify interface now remembers
2312 the previous device and driver settings (except
2313 for serial ports.)
2314 - The job-k-octets attribute is now stored as part of
2315 the job attributes; this preserves the information
2316 after a job is completed when job file history is
2317 turned off.
2318 - Dropped option sub-group parsing code for the moment,
2319 since many Xerox PPD files abuse this feature in PPD
2320 files and don't follow the hierarchy rules.
2321 - Added new wrapper code around options so that duplex
2322 options for some HP printers don't prevent prints.
2323 - Added support for Digital UNIX/Tru64 UNIX/OSF/1 format
2324 for "lpstat -v" output.
2325 - Now show the URI for remote printers instead of
2326 /dev/null in "lpstat -v" output.
2327 - Creating classes and adding printers to a class with
2328 the lpadmin command didn't work.
2329 - The banner pages and test page should now format
2330 correctly in both portrait and landscape orientations.
2331 - Updated banner page substitution so that { can appear
2332 by itself without quoting.
2333
2334
2335CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.2
2336
2337 - Makefile/configure fixes
2338 - RPM spec file and EPM list file fixes
2339 - The cupsTempFile() function now uses a different
2340 algorithm for generating temp files and "reserves"
2341 them to avoid possible security exploitation.
2342 - Now use /dev/random (if available) to seed the random
2343 number generator for certificates.
2344 - The /var/spool/cups and /var/spool/cups/tmp directories
2345 were incorrectly owned by root; they are now owned by
2346 the filter user, typically "lp".
2347 - The scheduler now resets the permissions on the spool
2348 and temp directories as needed to match the filter
2349 user.
2350 - Now expose ppdCollect() as an externally callable
2351 function.
2352 - The image filters now support filtering from the
2353 standard input.
2354 - The imagetoraster filter now collects all printer
2355 options and job patch files and applies them to the
2356 page header as needed.
2357 - Added format and banner options to LPD backend.
2358 - The send-document operation didn't start a job
2359 immediately when last-document was true.
2360 - The set-job-attributes operation didn't correctly
2361 replace the current job-hold-until value.
2362 - Removed the option wrapper code from ppdEmit() and
2363 friends since it caused problems with Ghostscript
2364 and many PS printers.
2365 - Was setting TZ environment variable twice for job
2366 filters.
2367 - Added syslog logging in cups-lpd to aide in
2368 debugging problems.
2369 - The HP-UX parallel port backend did not list the
2370 available parallel ports on some systems (printf
2371 calling problem...)
2372 - The lp and lpr commands overrode user options if
2373 -d/-P were specified after -o.
2374 - The scheduler would crash with a */* filter.
2375 - Added support for a "default" filter for unknown file
2376 types. The example provided in the mime.types and
2377 mime.convs file prints unknown files as if "-oraw" was
2378 specified for the job. This functionality is disabled
2379 by default.
2380 - The "compatibility" mode fix for older backends did not
2381 work for smbspool. Added a workaround for it.
2382 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't perform the right pen scaling
2383 with some files and the "fitplot" option.
2384 - New Software Performance Specification document that
2385 describes the memory, disk, and CPU usage of all the
2386 CUPS software.
2387
2388
2389CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1.1
2390
2391 - The pstoraster Makefile still referenced one of the
2392 old PDF filter files.
2393 - The filter Makefile used INSTALL_DATA instead of
2394 INSTALL_LIB to install the CUPS image library.
2395 - The administration CGI didn't work properly with
2396 network devices.
2397 - The BrowseACL variable was not updated after the
2398 cupsd.conf file was loaded.
2399 - The lpd mini-daemon didn't support printer instances.
2400 - Now use a default umask of 077 for child processes.

2402 processes and the root user, unless TMPDIR or TempDir
2403 is defined otherwise.
2404 - cupsGetPPD() no longer uses easy-to-guess filenames.
2405 - The CUPS-Delete-Class and CUPS-Delete-Printer
2406 operations now save classes.conf file as needed.
2407 - The lppasswd command wouldn't add a user.
2408 - The ppdOpen() function could cause a segfault if a
2409 0-length PPD file was read.
2410 - The image filters were not handling images with
2411 different X and Y resolutions properly.
2412 - The imagetoraster filter defaulted to RGB output
2413 instead of black output like pstoraster.
2414 - The pstops filter didn't handle binary data properly.
2415 - The pstops filter didn't handle copies properly for
2416 PS files lacking DSC comments.

2418 documents if they don't have it.
2419 - The cupsGetPPD() function didn't work with remote
2420 printers lacking the @server in the name.
2421 - The configure script didn't work right when only
2422 --prefix was specified.
2423 - The ppdEmit() code now wraps all printer commands so
2424 that buggy PostScript printers will still print a file
2425 after receiving an option that isn't available.
2426 - Fixed the DeskJet margin bug, and disabled 600dpi
2427 color mode until it can be fixed.
2428 - The cupsAddDest() function didn't sort instances

2443 before it was used.
2444 - The text filter now embeds missing fonts.
2445 - The CGI interface now maps local access to the server to
2446 the localhost address.
2447 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't use the specified (or default)
2448 color ranges, resulting in strange colors.
2449 - The HP-GL/2 filter didn't default to no input window, which
2450 caused unnecessary clipping of plots.
2451 - Integrated Xpdf's pdftops filter into CUPS, which is a
2452 lightweight and reliable replacement for Ghostscript's
2453 PDF support.
2454 - Removed all PDF support from Ghostscript.
2455 - Updated HP driver to set top margin; this seems to fix
2456 the offset problem seen on HP DeskJet printers.
2457 - Fixed dependencies on the ZLIB and JPEG libraries in
2458 pstoraster.
2459 - The lpr command wasn't using the lpoptions defined by
2460 the user.
2461 - The lpr command would segfault if the CUPS server was
2462 not running.
2463 - The top-level makefile was not installing the CUPS
2464 initialization script. It now does so if it sees there
2465 is an init.d directory in /sbin, /etc/rc.d, or /etc.
2466 - "lpstat -v all" didn't work.
2467 - pstoraster would crash on some platforms doing the
2468 setpagedevice operator.
2469 - The web administration interface now allows you to set
2470 the default banner pages.
2471 - Images can now be positioned on the page using the new
2472 "position" option.
2473 - The AccessLog, ErrorLog, and PageLog directives now
2474 support "%s" to insert the server name.
2475 - Added a new BrowseShortNames directive to allow for
2476 short remote printer names ("printer" instead of
2477 "printer@server") when possible.
2478 - The scheduler could crash if given an invalid PPD file
2479 with no PageSize attributes.
2480 - Updated the serial, parallel, and usb backends to do
2481 multiple writes and ignore ioctl() errors as needed;
2482 this should fix problems with serial printing on old
2483 serial drivers and with the UltraSPARC parallel port
2484 driver under Solaris 2.7.
2485 - Now propagate LD_LIBRARY_PATH to child processes from
2486 cupsd.
2487 - New DataDir directive for installing in alternate
2488 locations.

2490 variables to specify installation directories as
2491 needed.
2492 - Queued remote jobs recreate remote printers as needed
2493 when the scheduler is started.
2494 - Deleting a printer also purges all jobs on that
2495 printer.
2496 - Old job and control files that don't belong to a
2497 printer are automatically deleted.
2498 - Wasn't updating time-at-processing and
2499 time-at-completed attributes in job.

2501 attribute in response to a get-printer-attributes
2502 request.
2503 - cups-lpd now supports options set with lpoptions.

2506 is "no-hold".
2507 - The scheduler was not sending "unknown" values in IPP
2508 responses.
2509 - The lpoptions command now accumulates options from
2510 previous runs rather than replacing all options for a
2511 printer.
2512 - The IPP backend now switches to IPP/1.0 if a 1.1
2513 request fails.

2537 stderr.
2538 - The PostScript filter now added PJL commands to set the
2539 job name and display string, if supported.
2540 - The scheduler would crash if the browse socket could not
2541 be bound. Now disables browsing if port 631 (reserved for
2542 IPP) is being used by a misbehaving daemon.
2543 - The USB backend now looks for the older Linux 2.2.x USB
2544 printer device filenames as well as the newer ones.
2545 - The IPP backend now uses the UTF-8 charset exclusively,
2546 since apparently only CUPS handles more than US-ASCII and
2547 UTF-8...
2548 - Wasn't quoting ( in PostScript banners...
2549 - Send-document requests with no document-format attribute
2550 could cause cupsd to crash.
2551 - Old jobs in the spool directory might cause cupsd to
2552 crash.
2553 - CUPS now supports all of the recommended job-hold-until
2554 keywords as well as name values of the form "HH:MM" and
2555 "HH:MM:SS".
2556 - Added placeholder pointer for TLS encryption to the HTTP
2557 connection structure.

2560 - Revamped put_params code in pstoraster to fix bitmap
2561 allocation bug with FrameMaker output.
2562 - Ripped out filename, etc. code from pstoraster as it
2563 is a potential security hole.

2575
2576 - Documentation updates.
2577 - Many makefile and configuration script fixes (should
2578 now compile better under *BSD.)
2579 - The MediaPosition attribute was being mishandled by
2580 GhostScript, causing the RIP to fail whenever a paper
2581 tray was selected.
2582 - The scheduler now logs the final line of log information
2583 from a filter, even if it doesn't end with a newline; this
2584 primarily affects GhostScript error output.
2585 - The scheduler was saving implicit classes, so after a few
2586 restarts you'll end up with AnyPrinter, AnyAnyPrinter, etc.
2587 - The JPEG autodetection didn't work with some JPEG files that
2588 came from digital cameras (JPEG but not JFIF); the new
2589 magic types should work with all images that the JPEG library
2590 can handle.
2591 - Fixed a bug in the new contains() MIME type rule that could
2592 cause cupsd to crash.
2593 - Switched to using strtol() in the MIME type code so that you
2594 can use hex, octal, or decimal constants as desired in the
2595 mime.types file.
2596 - Banner files are now treated as templates, allowing any type
2597 of file to be used as a banner.
2598 - Added a 30-second timeout to backend device reports so that a
2599 hung backend will not prevent the scheduler from starting.
2600 - Backends are once again terminated when jobs are stopped; the
2601 CUPS-supplied backends will stay alive until the downstream
2602 filters have had a chance to clear out old page data.
2603 - The charset lookup in the CUPS localization support was wrong
2604 (iso8859-x instead of iso-8859-x)

2624 was set to 0 (now uses 30 seconds if BrowseInterval is 0)
2625 - The DeskJet driver now supports 600 DPI color for printers
2626 that support it.
2627 - New lpinfo and lpmove commands.
2628 - The lpq command now supports the Digital UNIX output format.

2632 print multiple files using create-job and send-document
2633 requests (1 job ID for multiple files)
2634 - The lp command now sends multiple files as a single job,
2635 matching the behavior of the System V command.
2636 - The "cancel -a" command now purges job history files.
2637
2638
2639CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1b3

2657 file is generated).
2658 - The scheduler did not start jobs destined for remote
2659 printers when they became available.
2660 - The scheduler now sends jobs to remote printers
2661 immediately. (when sending jobs to a class, the remote
2662 printer is only used when it becomes available)
2663 - The scheduler now supports printing of banner pages
2664 via the job-sheets attribute (banner files go in
2665 /usr/share/cups/banners)

2667 (override with -f)
2668 - Added several *BSD enhancements.
2669 - Added UNSUPPORTED libtool option to configuration
2670 script to allow the use of libtool. Note that this is
2671 UNSUPPORTED by us, but added by request of the *BSD
2672 folks.
2673 - The parallel, serial, and usb backends now retry the
2674 opening of their ports. This allows multiple print
2675 queues to be associated with a single physical port,
2676 and will allow CUPS to support several types of
2677 parallel port auto-switches in the near future.
2678 - Set-Job-Attributes now supports adding, changing, and
2679 deleting job template attributes, and no longer allows
2680 job-printer-uri to be set (see CUPS-Move-Job)

2700 authentication.
2701 - Updated the RPM spec file for the current release.
2702 - Updated language support for Windows code pages.
2703 - 8-bit character set files can now use multiple fonts

2719
2720
2721CHANGES IN CUPS v1.1b2
2722

2725 destinations, preventing it from seeing the default
2726 printer.
2727 - Many configure script and makefile fixes.
2728 - The Microsoft code page files were missing from the
2729 distribution.
2730 - Added a workaround for the HP IPP client (which is sending
